If you flap your arms while going up, it would be like a snow angel in flight. :saint: Sorry, couldn't resist!

LoL
Oh, there was plenty of flailing last time... but you couldnt really tell from the slide pattern...

bobalooie57 - 15-12-2010 at 10:18 AM

Well, if it's any consolation, Maven, been there, done that! Find that safety release! :bouncing:

Todd - 15-12-2010 at 11:42 AM

:eureka: Please may I be there early this time to witness and film

ragden - 15-12-2010 at 11:52 AM

If winds cooperate with us, and we are all there, I can only hope that the video comes out better this time than last...
:)

shehatesmyhobbies - 15-12-2010 at 12:01 PM

Not sure what my plans are for Sunday are yet, but if I can make the trek, I will!

As I recall, you didnt even release the video to us because it was headless... I would have watched it, but you said there was nothing to watch...
:(

Todd - 16-12-2010 at 06:32 AM

I completely forgot about that one... I thought you were referring to the video "I will not bow".

Nah, pretty sure that one was fine... I need to watch it again to remember though...
:)

edit: Sunday winds are still looking decent. Maybe a hair too much west, but hopefully it doesnt swing any farther west and we might be alright. I'll check again tomorrow and see what happens...

ragden - 17-12-2010 at 09:38 AM

Update:
Sunday winds look light at best. Currently only seeing 8-9 mph on Sunday. Granted that is still rideable as the grass will be frozen solid, so it will give a pretty good hard-pack riding experience. Wind direction is still good... I'll check again tomorrow and post whether I am going or not... Hard to say for sure at this point...

ragden - 18-12-2010 at 07:07 AM

Updated weather conditions. Doesn't look good. :( will check again tomorrow.

ragden - 10-2-2011 at 11:14 AM

Resurrecting an old thread... sorry.

Was thinking about trying to get out kiting this weekend, and looking at Sunday. Decent southwest winds predicted... Was thinking about possibly heading up to Wildwood. Low Tide is predicted at 0930 in the morning with the high tide hitting its peak at 1530... (good time to head home)

Southwest winds predicted at 15mph in the morning, peaking at 20mph around noon. Anyone else interested? I wasnt sure if I wanted to do a north beach run, or maybe head out at the fishing pier and just do some back and forths in the hard pack... Though, with that much wind... I could easily ride up in the soft stuff...

Thoughts?

shehatesmyhobbies - 10-2-2011 at 02:15 PM

Hmmmm I will definitely have to keep that in mind, if it does not work out for me going to WW, SW winds will work great on my local field here an hour north of Dewey!

Where is everyone else? Haven't heard from some of these guys in a while!

Maven454 - 10-2-2011 at 02:45 PM

@ragden you're going to drive to WW and back in one day?

ragden - 10-2-2011 at 09:02 PM

One day? Oh hell no.... :). Was thinkin about heading up Saturday night and coming back Sunday afternoon. Undecided at this point though... It is a long drive...

Frathouse - 8-4-2011 at 06:31 AM

Sunday is starting to look good for riding at AZT. I really hope the government doesn't shutdown so that assateague national park is open.

power - 21-4-2011 at 09:12 AM

Wazzup boys! Long time no see how is everyone? just got out for the first time in a couple months on the beach yesterday, im suckin in the sun in sc!

Todd - 27-5-2011 at 11:20 AM

shortlineflyer - 7-6-2011 at 11:36 AM

Anyone want to fly in alexandria virginia this week
looks like we are actually getting some wind today

sofa king - 8-6-2011 at 09:47 AM

Wildwood, towers rd, delaware beaches? whos trying to go one of these days?

ragden - 9-6-2011 at 09:49 AM

Wind predictions for this weekend dont look all that great. Add in the forecast of rain and thunder... I dont think I"m going anywhere...
:(

shortlineflyer - 15-7-2011 at 11:05 AM

other than wildwood where do you usually buggy/board

shortlineflyer - 15-7-2011 at 11:08 AM

i have a couple of places i like to fly in northern virginia, some of the fields dont always have the best wind conditions but you learn to make do with what you have. does anyone want to go fly with me sometime

ragden - 15-7-2011 at 12:23 PM

Sure... dont have a lot of free time though.
I live in Springfield.
:)

shortlineflyer - 13-8-2011 at 05:59 AM

My friend and I are trying to find a place where he can kiteboard and I can ride my buggy or atb any suggestions. My friend suggested north beach maryland but after looking at google maps i think it wouldn't work for either of our purposes

i might be able to talk him in to landboarding instead of kite boarding so and open land suggestions work also

shortlineflyer - 16-8-2011 at 06:34 AM

wind is great today anyone want to go fly

From when to when? I dont fly during the week, generally. I'll be busy all day Saturday, but looking at heading out to the coast for Sunday... Might be hitting the water if its warm enough...
:)

shortlineflyer - 18-11-2011 at 10:57 AM

from this saturday to next sunday
i only fly on land plus its too cold to even thinking about going in the water

meh... a good wetsuit and you'll be fine. Temps are supposed to be low 60s and water is probably still in the 50s... It'll be fine... for a little while..
;)
Not sure where to land ride in SW winds. Not many locations that I know of in the DC area... unless things change dramactically between now and Sunday... I'm still planning on that little coastal trip.

The only other option that I would consider would be Wildwood. But that direction is STRAIGHT down the beach (side-shore). Not particularly good for actually doing long beach runs. Better than nothing, but even if things go south for water Sunday, I'm not treking out to Wildwood for a day trip on Sunday. Too far...

Where were you looking at flying this weekend? Next weekend is probably out for me... Got a beta stress test on a new game that I think I'm going to sink a bit of time into (read: all weekend).

Todd - 18-11-2011 at 11:59 AM

SSW is perfect winds for Solomon's Island for a bumpy but fun ride. I'm sure Lee, Crisi, and Chad will be up for a day there. I miss my old home field.

lad - 18-11-2011 at 06:07 PM

Solomons...WW...The Bowl...this weekend...over the Holiday Week....anyone?

shortlineflyer - 20-11-2011 at 11:27 AM

if i can get a ride with somebody it would be great

ragden - 20-11-2011 at 06:29 PM

sorry... spent the whole weekend painting... lol

md2pigeon - 21-11-2011 at 10:03 AM

Depending on conditions, it may be too cold for that already...

shortlineflyer - 21-11-2011 at 10:43 AM

i dont know where, but i only have my landbaord right now so it would have to be somewhere i could ride that

You have a PL buggy in your sig, are you not riding that?
There are more places that you can buggy at than landboard at... At least.. imo.

md2pigeon - 21-11-2011 at 10:50 AM

Well if we go to the beach in Lewes on low tide thier is plenty of space to ride in my opinion if you have a landboard but looking to get a feel for the conditions a few days out and make the decision then but looking to see if anyone else wants to head out as well

shortlineflyer - 21-11-2011 at 10:51 AM

right now its at school i am on break right now and i could only bring by board due to space

Chad - 21-11-2011 at 11:16 AM

If we do go? Shortlineflyer i am sure we have more then enough boards. I have 3 myself and i can only ride 1 at a time :duh:

lad - 21-11-2011 at 11:33 AM

I have a board and a half :duh: and currently, two buggys! Dunno if I can fit them all and my kites into my squat little car

shortlineflyer - 21-11-2011 at 01:22 PM

When the tide is low, Wildwood is amazing for landboarding. If the conditions set up right, we might make a weekend trip out of it. I'll keep ya posted.
:)

lad - 22-11-2011 at 07:32 AM

I'd go (if I'm not already at the Treasure Island Kite Fest).

ragden - 9-12-2011 at 09:59 AM

Seriously considering heading out to The Bowl tomorrow afternoon. Winds are NW (more North than West). Anyone else interested?

martinipro - 9-12-2011 at 10:04 AM

I may be in the area. The Bowl is in Baltimore right?

ragden - 9-12-2011 at 10:21 AM

It is. Location contained below (it is also posted elsewhere in this thread, though I couldnt tell you where...)
http://maps.google.com/maps?q=baltimore,+md&hl=en&ll...

ragden - 9-12-2011 at 12:25 PM

Forecast dropped... of course...
Will keep an eye on it, but winds maxing at 11mph... might not be worth the trip...
Anyone else still considering it?

martinipro - 9-12-2011 at 12:42 PM

I will be 15 mins away. So I would still consider the trip!

Ofcourse this means I can't do wildwood this weekend.

ragden - 9-12-2011 at 12:47 PM

Wildwood might be a better idea...
Definitely better winds there than in Baltimore... I cannot make the trip though...
:(

martinipro - 9-12-2011 at 01:25 PM

12/13MPH winds not enough for your 15Speed3?

I'm thinking my V-II or my method should work fine!

lad - 9-12-2011 at 02:29 PM

I can be up for either!

A moments notice for the Bowl

a bit more time for WW!

martinipro - 9-12-2011 at 04:33 PM

Last minute plans... Sorry guys, won't be able to make it this weekend!

ragden - 9-12-2011 at 10:12 PM

I can ride with my S3 in 5-8mph winds. If its steady. However, The Bowl is a tight spot, and flying a kite that big presents its own... complications. Suffice to say, I am not wild about rolling out a kite that big at that spot. Plus traffic can be pretty killer trying to get up there from where I am at. Not sure it would be worth the trek if the winds are not going to be over 11mph.

I'll take another look at it tomorrow and see if it is worth the trip...

ragden - 10-12-2011 at 08:01 AM

Eating breakfast, then going to pack up and head out to The Bowl for a little bit. I don't expect to ride for too long... maybe an hour or two... Will just be nice to put a kite up for a little bit.
:)

lad - 10-12-2011 at 08:21 AM

See you there!

Sorry, my "month quota" has been filled already. Please try again next month...

If the conditions line up, I'll be out flying (barring other engagements). Will be watching the forecast.
;)

shortlineflyer - 11-12-2011 at 05:30 PM

hey lad where do you fly

lad - 11-12-2011 at 05:37 PM

Anywhere! I met some flyers down at the electric Tower fields around the DC Beltway...forget just where that was. "The Bowl" in Baltimore. Nothing beats Wildwood, tho...

shortlineflyer - 11-12-2011 at 05:43 PM

are you going to Wildwood this month? i dont have a mode of transportation so i would need a ride to anywhere we fly
id like to go somewhere i can play around on my kite land board.

lad - 11-12-2011 at 05:58 PM

Maybe a bunch of us can get a group up, as discussed earlier.
I don't have a lot of room in my little car loaded with my buggy and gear. :sniff:

shortlineflyer - 11-12-2011 at 06:15 PM

where are you located

lad - 11-12-2011 at 06:28 PM

In MD, NE of Baltimore...seems like most of the other buggy folks are now in VA, DE and NJ...

ragden - 11-12-2011 at 08:16 PM

If all I'm doing is buggying, I normally have room in my vehicle for another couple of bodies + gear.
If conditions line up, and I don't have anything else on my plate, I'll make a trip to Wildwood and you are welcome to ride with us (as long as my wife doesnt try to pack the everything along with the kitchen sink in the car...).
More likely that I'll make a trip to The Bowl if conditions line up though... :)

shortlineflyer - 12-12-2011 at 09:13 AM

Information in quotes. It was posted earlier in this same thread.

The Bowl is a "bowl-shaped" field. It only works on North to NNW winds due to its exposure to the wind/river. It can work on West winds, but tends to be very gusty and unpredictable. I once got lofted there very badly on WNW winds and nearly broke my arm.

Hope this helps. :)

shortlineflyer - 16-12-2011 at 11:46 AM

anyone free this weekend
i really want to ride my atb some

ragden - 16-12-2011 at 11:51 AM

Already got plans for Saturday (which might fall through), and winds do not look good for The Bowl on Sunday. If my plans for tomorrow fall through, I might look at something tomorrow... but I am still not making the trek to Wildwood.

Saturday might be okay at The Bowl... If things line up for that, I'll post something in the morning. It might be a bit much west though... which can get nasty.

We shall see what happens...

shortlineflyer - 16-12-2011 at 01:39 PM

Anyone kiting new years or Monday? Thinking bout pulling out the land board....has been awhile. Am in western ho. Co. / south Carroll area...... Prolly just hitting up a school/farm field if possible.

ragden - 20-1-2012 at 07:30 PM

Heading up to Wildwood this coming sunday. Will be on North Beach, unless things change dramatically between now and then.
Hope to see you there.
:)

lad - 20-1-2012 at 07:44 PM

What streets does North Beach run thru?

Frathouse - 20-1-2012 at 07:49 PM

Have fun!

Frathouse - 20-1-2012 at 07:51 PM

Okay why are you going to wildwood? its supposed to rain.

ragden - 20-1-2012 at 08:12 PM

Chance of rain on Sunday is low... :)

Frathouse - 20-1-2012 at 08:32 PM

I guess so... I'm staying home this weekend. Hopefully the snow kiting conditions improve. I really want a session soon.

lad - 23-1-2012 at 04:43 PM

Ragden,

Did you go anywhere this weekend?

dandre - 14-2-2012 at 08:08 AM

I'm back in the area for a bit. Working on my EMT/working
I live right outside reisterstown on the reservoir.

Anyone interested in kiting/bouldering/mountain biking please let me know.
Once I clear up a little bit of time I'm going to start asking some farmers off deer park about land use.

Theres some good open land in these parts

ragden - 14-2-2012 at 08:17 AM

Havent been out in a bit. Hurt my back and in recovery... *sigh*
Was going to go out this past weekend, but wife convinced me to let my back recover a bit more...
Maybe in March... Rest of this month is out for me...
