so should i go with a 10m or not im confused

InvertedForce - 6-12-2010 at 05:41 PM

Its my suggestion that you get a 13m Venom or preferably a VenomII, but thats just me.

Maven454 - 6-12-2010 at 05:42 PM

NJLandboarder, give Todd a U2U, he can probably both help with what size and with the actual acquisition.

Bladerunner - 6-12-2010 at 05:44 PM

Arcs are extremely inefficient for size. It took me a long time to get over the fact that I am comfortable staying on my 15m when folks on fixed bridle were dropping from 5' to 3's.

I don't get too much use out of my 10m. Winds aren't usually high enough. Of the 10m and 15m Charger I think the 15m is actually more beginer friendly. The 10m is far more aggresive. I would feel one heck of a lot safer with a 13m venom than I would with a 5m ace in the same winds!

It's not the size of the kite but the size of the winds and rider that matter. The 13 will work best if average winds.

InvertedForce - 6-12-2010 at 05:47 PM

Any kite will do you harm in the wrong conditions, but if you respect the wind and realize the wind is too high to fly a 13m, know when to pack it up and just wait for better conditions. But I think you'll find more use out of a medium sized kite like a 13m or 15m than a smaller or larger one.

interesting

http://southjersey.craigslist.org/spo/2027690112.html

i found that add on craigslist its kinda local are any of the kites worth the money at all?

kteguru - 6-12-2010 at 07:41 PM

The Fuels and the Gaastra are older c-kites. Not sure on the others. Not that that's a bad thing but they have little to no depower. If you want a tube try to find a modern SLE. What happened to the 13 venom? How about a 12m Charger?

flyjump - 6-12-2010 at 07:47 PM

yeah, a 13m venom or any arc close to that size are good for your size and winds. i'm just over 6 feet tall and only 165 pounds, my 13m v2 is excellent over16mph. Enough grunt to get me moving quick and enough lift to practice decent jumps. A smaller arc is nice, but they tend to get very aggressive in higher winds. Its good to have a medium size kite that isn't so wippy

NO

Kamikuza - 6-12-2010 at 08:34 PM

Sorry ktguru wasn't dissing you ... arcs being a bit flat in the lower 1/3 of their windrange, and I'm thinking he should go out on light wind days and just get rolling first with a big fat girl, turning slowly and predictably.

... I've yet to use my 12m Synergy after all :D

NJL - don't waste money on old kites unless you just want a hack to learn on; to inflate, setup, launch and land and don't mind if it dies after a few months. For a newbie depower rider, especially on the land, I'd say don't get anything before 2007 in general and specifically you should get a 2008+ Cabrinha kite with IDS, for safety.

That'll cost money though ... an arc may be the best route at this time!

joeblinky - 6-12-2010 at 09:12 PM

i agree w the 13m venom's. i have one (venom2) and it is really good. i also agree with the wind conditions said 14-20 if it is gusty where you are like it is in iowa. if you have solid winds (and judging by the winds you described before you don't have smooth winds) you don't need as much wind.

the 10m would be for more wind then that and with more winds in a gusty area, you are going to have bigger gusts that is what makes the kite scarier in my opinion.

again, i really suggest 13m venom or charger if your not a poor folgy like me

(not really sure what a folgy is... does that mean old)

kteguru - 6-12-2010 at 09:22 PM

No dis taken KK:bigok:.

Like Kami says a newer tube or an arc may be the best route to go. One option to think of too is to just come down to Wildwood in the spring and take the opportunity to try out some different kites to see what direction you'd like to go and get some first hand experience before you buy. I'm sure Todd can teach you all the ins and outs of flying the arcs and he can get you going on one of his. I'm sure Snobdr will be there as well with tubes that you can get going on as well. Great group of people at the bash, feel free to ask for a go on anything. If you still have the Ace at Wildwood I'd like to have a go on it,,,,,,,I doubt it's any more fierce than a 4.9 Blade:D.

See you at WW. Good winds:tumble:

NJLandboarder - 7-12-2010 at 03:54 PM

im not really interested in those arcs i was just wondering if they were worth considering

and im not totally sure about starting on 13m im a little scared and have been advised by some to start with a 10m venom

NJLandboarder - 7-12-2010 at 04:16 PM

my dad said hes okay with me getting a new kite.... but i have to sell my ace should i bother posting it here or should i try pansh forum or ebay?

BeamerBob - 7-12-2010 at 04:16 PM

My first arc flight was with a 15m synergy, not scary at all. My first arc purchase was a 15m phantom. Very easy in barely enough winds. That 13m Venom is one of the best and most versatile arcs ever made and won't be scary in anything less than 20 even to learn. Low teens would be perfect for an inaugural flight. Don't be afraid of the large size of arcs because as Bladerunner said, they are inefficient for their size and don't pummel you with gusts.

NJLandboarder - 7-12-2010 at 05:05 PM

hmmm where can i go about finding a 13m kite theres a scorpion for sale on here but i think its a 16m

flyjump has a venom ii 13m that i wish he would selll

but i got really good offfer on a 10m for 350 with lines i don't think i will be able to get a deal like that on a 13m

InvertedForce - 7-12-2010 at 05:14 PM

Yea, the only problem with VII 13m is EVERYONE that has one LOVES them, they rarely get rid of them. I know Flyjump would almost never sell that kite.

$350 RTF is pretty much the average price for most Peter Lynn Venom's (I & II 10-16m depending on quality/repairs etc.), it is a good deal. Especially if its a 07 bar with it

I'll keep my eyes open. My suggestion would be to wait until you find the right kite, especially if you're not going to be flying it for a few more weeks/months, they're bound to turn up eventually. This website and those like it are the best place to look as people are always changing gear and looking to get rid of their older kites.

NJLandboarder - 7-12-2010 at 05:44 PM

oh okay are scorpions or syns more expensive?

Kamikuza - 7-12-2010 at 05:54 PM

Syns would be more expensive but I think the best idea is to get a Venom II. Scorpions have been said to be finicky ... but I want to buy a couple back so I can see for myself :D

Maven454 - 8-12-2010 at 04:32 AM

NJLandboard, try for Syns if you can find them. Scorpions are way more of a pain to launch.

NJLandboarder - 8-12-2010 at 06:13 PM

well it wont let me page five what do i do?

NJLandboarder - 8-12-2010 at 06:26 PM

nvm i can see it and maybe can i use a leafblower to inflate this thing faster?

Maven454 - 9-12-2010 at 05:22 AM

Yeah, there are a number of people who use an electric leaf blower to speed up the inflation time in light winds.

flyjump - 9-12-2010 at 05:54 AM

Don't be scared away from scorpions. There is a trick to learn with launching them but once you learn it, scorpions are really fun. I'd go with a 16m. In light clean wind that kite just sits waiting for input. In stronger wind it'll take you too the moon. Look at my avatar, that was using my old 16m scorp. They are cheaper than the syns but still great kites. Once you learn how to launch that is. I used to have a full quiver of them. Let me know if you have any questions about them:)

Maven454 - 9-12-2010 at 06:41 AM

Dude, he only weighs maybe 120 lbs, he doesn't need a 16m Scorpion.

flyjump - 9-12-2010 at 06:56 AM

Oh hahaha, I didn't know that. Definatly stick with a 13 then

12v muffin fan from and rechargeable RC car battery from Radio Shack. In three minutes you can bounce a quarter off the kite...

NJLandboarder - 9-12-2010 at 03:12 PM

ingenious Angus!!

i will definatly be makign one of those and

yes i am a light weight does that still mean i shoudl go with a 13 over a 10m cuz the 10m venom i saw at wwbb was huge and seemed t pull like a truck

WELDNGOD - 9-12-2010 at 03:19 PM

CJ, they just look big. They don't behave like the FBs do.

NJLandboarder - 9-12-2010 at 03:28 PM
