I think I can I think I can

In the beginning (this was 5 yrs ago)

It was a flying kind of day

Building it up ( a little bit from kitekid 2013)

soliver - 22-4-2016 at 11:38 AM

Hey!!! Congrats KEVIN!!!! I glanced over the user name and totally missed it was you going on a honeymoon... That's awesome!!!

Getting totally jazzed!!!

3shot - 22-4-2016 at 06:10 PM

Last weekend to check gear.

markite - 24-4-2016 at 03:14 PM

Next week at this time we'll be coming off the beach from a Sunday afternoon session and pre dinner beverages overlooking the dunes, ocean and early evening deer spotting.

soliver - 24-4-2016 at 03:45 PM

Right about now next week, I will probably have only been on the island for a few hours and will probably be eating dinner and getting the kiddos settled in. Probably no time for a session yet for me :(

flyguy0101 - 25-4-2016 at 07:18 AM

Tis the evenings to pack- now have to figure what vehicle is going (potential truck problem which may put us in the van again without a trailer and looking like the clampetts) spent the last weekend paddling the Nolichucky in TN ready to be in the sun and wind and not in a wetsuit:D Did we ever figure out a day for our family picnic?

I'll bring down some 200lb test, 300 lb test and the 600lb Pro

definitely take a set ! 23m set of the 600

markite - 25-4-2016 at 09:59 AM

Hey Chad, sent you a U2U with the cost (dividing up how much I have on spools, lower CDN dollar etc)

The Pro line is nice for surfing or ATB when you are doing some boosting
I'm doing up some more line sets 300lb over 200lb for running my arcs in the buggy while I'm down there - I like to hear the lines sing!

Mark

3shot - 25-4-2016 at 10:53 AM

I love to hear those lines humming when they go by. Will have to try some on my Peak one day.

Demoknight - 25-4-2016 at 03:18 PM

The Reactor and the Speed sing when they are in park and ride mode. I love that sound. It lets you know you are in the sweet spot for wind speeds.

JimSSI - 25-4-2016 at 06:09 PM

Out for five hours yesterday on JI - the east wind was steady 15 kts at 2:30 PM, down to 12 kts at low tide 4:30 PM - ran out of beach by 7:30 PM. Few speedbumps - uh, tourists. Clear beach from the rocks at the north end to the water tower to the south.

The beach, she is perfect.

Y'all come.

Have any 300# Laser Pro Gold? I need to make another line set and could use some good 300# line I can splice.

I am soooo looking forward to next week. I've been working way too hard for the past 8 months. It's time for some high-speed, coastal vacay. I'm coming Sunday - Saturday.

I'm bringing my usual pair of buggies (Tandem!) and a pile of Arcs. I also have some newly-assembled bars carved from Gainesville's finest hardwoods, and some older less-shiny creations of mine. If I can figure out how to get it and two buggies there, I'll have the cargo bike as well.

I have some gear I should part: a 13m Scorpion, RTF, a PL harness, a PL tow line, some random things. I could go for a swap meet. Anyone want to trade?

I'd love to talk kite bar design with anyone with an interesting in building their own. I'm always interested in new--and old--ways of solving the problem of building good control systems.

Last year we had a yard sale table. It did some business!

How about we set it up again?

I know that Ted sold a kite, Angus sold some things, M.Yeargain sold a kite and some other stuff was sold or traded but nobody bought my Big Foot tire.:(

It was a success so let's do it again. I'll have string tags for anyone that has some stuff to sell.

How do you put a string tag on a tire? Get a long string.

one standard 2 ply bigfoot tire (like those used on a bigfoot lite)?
I have a bunch of Nanco tires here but I think I just might have need of one lighter 2 ply tire, I'll shoot you a U2U

acampbell - 26-4-2016 at 02:07 PM

I'll have a lot of stuff. Kites. lines, harnesses, etc.

Windstruck - 27-4-2016 at 05:53 AM

To all my PKF friends heading to JIBE. Wish I were there with you my brothers! Have a great time. JIBE sounds like a blast, with great people, good winds, beautiful location and endless ear-to-ear grins!

COULD BE TROUBLE! My wife just had me put two bags full of what looked like some kind of striking instruments of various sizes in the van. She claims, get this, that they are used to hit small balls across fields looking for holes. This admitted lunacy is practiced with her sister-in- law, in public, mind you!
And people sidle away furtively when I mention Kites....

Road trip tomorrow!

Your honey has toys and someone to play with. That's so sweet.

Mine is fond of the fuzzy yellow balls. They don't seem to go as far as the white ones, but she thinks it's marvelous. Who am I to judge?

At Jekyll right now. Perfect weather. 77 F wind south 9 mph but the seabreaze is pulling some east into it. Tide is high but next week will fix that.

3shot - 28-4-2016 at 06:19 PM

One more work day!!!!

flyguy0101 - 29-4-2016 at 04:46 AM

We will see you all sunday afternoon- lot of rain locally I think we can paddle Goshen pass on Saturday morning and then start heading south in the afternoon. Safe travels to all!

Demoknight - 29-4-2016 at 09:07 AM

Anna and myself start driving today after work. We arrive tomorrow afternoon. If weather permits, I may see some of you on the beach Sunday. Winds look light most of the week, but that is why we bring all sizes!

soliver - 29-4-2016 at 10:26 AM

Wifey and I have been attending a local conference yesterday and today, so I'll have been off work since Wed. afternoon. We will head to JI Sunday morning and should arrive midday.... Unfortunately check in at the rental isn't until 4:00. ... I'll see you guys on the beach on Monday!!! Whoop whoop!

jrhook - 29-4-2016 at 12:20 PM

No, you'll be there for some late Sunday action...just like me! Is anyone getting the heebie jeebies looking at Wind Alert?

Demoknight - 29-4-2016 at 01:15 PM

I am not going to sweat it much. Usually Wind Alert and Windfinder show the forecast for wind, but that doesn't always account for thermal action. The weather can change day to day. All I see when I check the forecast is that I am going to get lots of time on my 19m Speed 3 and my 8.6m Reactor. Two of my favorite kites, along with all of my other favorite kites.

3shot - 29-4-2016 at 05:20 PM

Like Demo said, praying for island thermal action lol. Drawing in the afternoon onshore winds.

I will have a full set of tools too. I always carry them while on long road trips. If anyone has any vehicle or kite gear issues, just hit me up!

God Speed everyone!! See y'all on the golden isle. We are pulling out around 4am Sunday morning. Should be there around 2-3ish. All the little bladders in my car pretty much guarantees we stop at every rest area..... Lol

acampbell - 29-4-2016 at 10:30 PM

Plus one for Demo and 3shot. Afternoon seabreaze usually trumps local computer generated forecasts

Many people know that I have a secret switch buried in the dunes that will switch the winds around from the east.

Demoknight - 30-4-2016 at 08:08 AM

Me and Anna on 16 only a couple hours away. Getting more excited by the mile!

Demoknight - 30-4-2016 at 05:52 PM

The eagle has landed. I'm at rahbar with Anna's family right now.

Interesting drive so far - we had cleared the boarder in Buffalo just after 6:00 am, had a decent drive through NY, PA and most of West VA until we stopped for gas in Summersville. We to leave and the first stop sign I was rolling through with a blown brake line. Long story short but incredibly helpful people bending over backwards to help us working after their hours and a #@%$#! of brake line to access - 3 guys stayed to help and did it all asking just 95.00! Gave them more plus some CDN beer and back on the road! Stopped in Rock Hill SC for the night so the drive Sunday morning shouldn't be too bad and there sometime after noon - safe journey everyone and Angus did you get our deposit Fiona sent in for the wind switch?

soliver - 30-4-2016 at 08:46 PM

98% Loaded,... leaving as soon as the girls eat their breakfast... hopefully on the island by early afternoon.

I'd say we packed light, but with 6 of us, there really is NO such thing.

acampbell - 30-4-2016 at 09:10 PM

We are moved in to Jekyll in our rental. It was hard to remember where to drive "home" to at the end of a work night. I work 12 p to 8 p Sunday. Joan tells me that the beach was packed today but we should be ok during the week.

Looking forward to seeing everyone. Mark tell Fiona I have the switch deposit- just have to find the switch somewhere in the dunes.

jrhook - 1-5-2016 at 02:22 AM

Whatever you're all doing, keep it up, because for what it's worth W/A has come around in a big way showing quite a decent breeze about to bless this happy crowd... Chomping at the bit!

Demoknight - 1-5-2016 at 07:50 AM

About to scout the beach. It's low tide now so I will ride if I can.

frankiter - 1-5-2016 at 10:26 AM

Hey all, I just got a call from Pokite. He's had a family issue just come up, and it may take a day or two to work through it. So no Kitefort tonight, and possibly not tomorrow night.

I'm on my way to JI now, and am temporarily high and dry for a place to stay tonight. What are the budget hotel options?
Or, does anyone have a couch I can crash on tonight? I can pay with Aunt B cookies!

3shot - 1-5-2016 at 06:46 PM

Hey Spencer. Passed you coming over the bridge. We have to address some vehicle issues in the am. Then hope to see everyone after that. It has been a tough day, but we are on the island...

soliver - 1-5-2016 at 07:52 PM

I saw you guys!... Bummer about the 'burban!

We are right next door to Ted and Holly and SUPER pleased with our rental!... We got here just in time to unload the cars, stroll to the beach, bring 'em home and toss 'em in bed. Wifey and I are enjoying time in front of the tube now!

See y'all on the beach! Looks pretty good tomorrow.

Demoknight - 1-5-2016 at 08:42 PM

I got two good hours of riding in this morning :)

Frank, you found a place for tonight, right? If not, PM me and we will have a bed for you for tonight.

jrhook - 2-5-2016 at 05:36 AM

Errol, you saved me man! Thanks for the pump! Let's ride...

jrhook - 2-5-2016 at 01:44 PM

Absolutely EPIC DAY of kiting today! Learned more about flying that Apex in one day than in all of the time I've owned it put together. Scott was yelling instructions at me with all the risk of me crashing our kites together there was. It didn't happen, but it was so inspiring to have one of the best landboarders out there willing to get that close to such a de-power novice as myself. No wonder you kiters all feel like family!

Made it all the way to the water tower upwind today with it and haven't felt this accomplished since that magical night in 1976 that Angela showed me what love is:P

markite - 2-5-2016 at 05:56 PM

Well car issues are a whole other story and big thanks to Jason and Amanada for rescuing us and bringing us and the gear to the island and all the shuttling around for the last two days, it definitely isn't easy dealing with your family and then accommodating me and my stuff as well - I really appreciate it and also all the people that have offered help and showed concern.
The best news of the day came later afternoon when the garage said it was an issue with a broken brake and with towing and repairs etc it will be 370.00 and should have a car late tomorrow so I can start lugging all my own crap around. I hope all the other auto issues with others get sorted as fast and the least painful way.

Okay kiting today, Jason and I arrived a little later on the beach expecting to go back and forth digonally but the wind had better direction than expected and we could run no problem to the south tower and come ripping back. I think a few of us experienced some really nice speed coming North and later afternoon as the tide was coming in seemed to be a slight change in wind direction and slightly stronger making for what I felt were my fastest runs at JIBE feeling more like running on the playa - damn I wish I had taken my GPS with me today!
Then later it was a plethora of wonderful aunt B's cookies, beer, Jameson's, and faux habenero pineapple beer ..... More to come!

Update today
