Camera ran out of battery when you were setting up and I was having too much fun to fiddle with it after. Although it would have been awesome to get
some footage of the runs we did together. Will keep it in mind for next time to spend the couple of minutes and change the battery.
I think the idea of the posts with requests from DCR is a very good one. There are a few sporadic comments through this post but it will be good to
put everything on one post and update it accordingly. Currently the only thing i have been personally asked, is to stay North of section 8 due to the
bird nesting grounds.skimtwashington - 26-6-2018 at 11:10 PM
skimtwashington - 27-6-2018 at 08:33 PM
DCR is inconsistent and occasional in their enforcement -and thank gosh!... because officially, kite powered vehicles are not allowed as
written in the regulations.
Point one- Our Status:
We have been put off ,for the most part, at attempts to become an (no official rule against) allowed activity- like walking, swimming,
sunbathing.
Pressing the officials any further in efforts is a precarious venture as they can not only say no, but if you upset them in your attitude or
aggression they can start enforcing a total ban.
Point Two- Our Best Policy:
Follow previous requests from DCR(like don't ride the life guard controlled areas past section #9-as one example) and use good safety
practices and self policing. We have stated some requests and self-guidelines previously, but a consolidation and list is indeed a good idea. If you
want to start a new thread, for this and post, please do.
B-Roc - 28-6-2018 at 07:15 AM
I still have the original Traction Safety Guidelines document in PDF format that we drafted in May of 2009 when they first banned us from the beach.
Post or u2u me your email address if interested and I will send it along.Gravityguy - 28-6-2018 at 09:14 AM
Thanks guys. B-Roc check you u2u
Thanks I knew there had been something worked on in the past. These guidelines will be a good start for some general guidelines for the post.
I figure the post can contain general guidelines and track the seasonal requests we get on the beach from lifeguards, wildlife reasearchers, etc. It
increases our communication of the requests and alert/give us a place to point new riders to best practices on this beach. skimtwashington - 14-7-2018 at 12:52 AM

Wow! Looks like the beach was awesome! Glad to see you guys got out!Glx - 14-7-2018 at 07:31 AM
Beach was great, almost empty due to the high/cool winds. Winds were high enough that at times a 3.5m was slightly overpowering. Awesome for us. Looks
like this afternoon might be a repeat due to the cool weather and the clouds that are starting to roll in.skimtwashington - 14-7-2018 at 08:08 AM
New short surface area of a thin shell crust that was an interesting traction change of pace under the wheels...made crunching sounds for an audio
change of pace , perhaps more than anything.:wee::wee:
GLX...did you shoot any Vid or pics?Glx - 14-7-2018 at 08:59 AM
I did get some video of you and should have some of danny too because had the cam rolling most of the time. I am hopping i captured a looooong two
wheeler from him. Will go through what got captured and post today (or tomorrow, if I end up going out again today).skimtwashington - 14-7-2018 at 12:44 PM
Beach was fairly full mid-day today...waiting for them to leave...
Glx - 15-7-2018 at 03:35 PM
Yesterday did not turn out to be as good as Friday. Less wind to start with and then dropped to nothing. Nevertheless a decent day.
A few videos with buggydanny and skimtwashington from these couple of day.
cheezycheese - 20-7-2018 at 09:03 AM
You guys riding tmw...? Temps are low... maybe cloudy...skimtwashington - 20-7-2018 at 11:45 AM
Has to be pretty cool AND cloudy on weekend day near peak vacation season with low tide mid-day, instead of early evening.
Early evening is opportunity window in summer. Sometimes even after a busy day it sometime opens if most all go home for dinner. Still light well
after 8 pm
Looks like good on-shores all day too...damn.
Maybe pre-dusk kite rollerblading in parking lot ...best odds if any kiting.ssayre - 20-7-2018 at 08:17 PM
great thread. I've always loved your short videos capturing the spirit of the day.Glx - 23-7-2018 at 10:31 PM
Against all better judgement and a flight to catch in the evening, could not resist from hitting Nahant on Sunday. Raining, on shore winds in the low
to mid teens. Beach was completly empty barring a half dozen water kiters. 3.5m and 4.5m cent ii went up one after the other. Very wet ride, 31 miles
in and a max of 37.9 mph. Awesome day in Nahant before running to the airport.skimtwashington - 24-7-2018 at 01:26 AM
This is a diehard who rides in the rain!:o
....there's no stopping you.
(Hope kites are drying out while you fly off. Mildew damages nylon.)
Glx - 24-7-2018 at 09:30 AM
Yep, hung the kites in the garage. Should be nice and dry by the time I come back. Thx for the heads up skimtwashington - 24-7-2018 at 10:22 AM
BTW...how did those Century kites fly soaking wet...or was it not soaking wet?
( Single Skins fly better wet than foils...)
And...
How are your wheel bearings holding thru the wet riding...as it seems you've done a bunch of wet riding in past, haven't you?
Glx - 24-7-2018 at 11:57 AM
Kites got very heavy. I started with 3.5m and the wind came down a notch but mainly I had to change to 4.5m because the 3.5 got extremly heavy. It was
fine once I got going and apparent wind kicked in but every time I turned it was very difficult to keep the kite going. As for the bearings i dont
think rain water does much more harm to them than the salt water when riding the wet pack. After every session I thoroughly hose down the buggy and
every 2-3 times i spray all bearings with silicone lubricant. Still on my first set of bearings (with no perceivable downgrade) since January when I
got this buggy.skimtwashington - 24-7-2018 at 04:06 PM
I watched Matt ride his Flysurfer Peak in moderate rain and it seemed to do well....after I had to put away my wet foil kite-as it could hardly fly.

Nice to see a bunch of you made it out yesterday. I had eyed the day as a good one. Unfortunately I driving the car for 8hrs well watching the trees
sway in the wind. Hope to make it out again soon. B-Roc - 5-9-2018 at 09:55 AM
Wondering if anyone in the Nahant crew wants to be part of a chat/text group to communicate gatherings and when its going off. I really miss the old
email distribution list and I suppose that lack of hearing that people are getting ready for a weekend session or that one is going off in a few hours
has stunted my interest in making the trek to Nahant for the past year or two. If there is interest, I could collect cell phone and contact info here
(u2u) and then send out a group chat (standard data and message rates apply) and then those in the group chat would always know when other riders are
out or getting ready to go. Could even post pics or vids. I'm not on FB and the email list is dead so just throwing the concept out to see if anyone
is interested. Glx - 5-9-2018 at 02:23 PM
Very interested. U2U sent.B-Roc - 6-9-2018 at 09:33 AM
Some requests for a group email vs. text line. I'm OK either way and have no preference. Group emails work well for me but if you are on the
recipient end you'll need to either keep the email to reply to or create your own distribution list once the email goes out. Whatever the majority
decides - just let me know and I'll do what I can to set it up. I have most of the emails from the crew with the exception of those who have been
added in the past two years.Gravityguy - 6-9-2018 at 10:42 AM

KONE @ Nahant beach with a packed beach and parking lot.....some tried to buggy. I scudded and jumped a bit in the 'caution' taped off 120' square
buggy demo area :o With a big 10m and 13m borrowed FB kite in low, but steady ~7-8mph wind.. (give or take 1 mph)
That 13m (nor 10m) doesn't need much to pull (or lift) you!(thanks Dan And Genci)
Dan somehow-the pilot that he is- took guest riders on tandem thru the crowd of Bikinis, boogie boards and beach blanket bodies...
Nice day anyway...

Nice day to ride. winds 15-25... 20-30 degrees off-angle.
Glx - 20-10-2018 at 06:52 PM
Yep. Today was an awesome day. Plenty of wind and from a good direction at getting some speed going one way. Even got to set a new PB. There were many
people on water but no one else on land until my last hour when Skimtwashington came and it made for a very nice hour of riding side by side.

Wind by afternoon was strong and gusty... like 12-24 mph... Couple riders on sand-Buggy and board - and me speeding thru parking lot on In-lines and

Man I wish I could make it out this Sunday. If the rain holds off it could be a pretty sweet day. Tide out with sunrise, tide back in with sunset
forecast mid teens with gusts to mid 20s onshore!
Wish I could go. Glx - 14-12-2018 at 03:44 AM
Yep it looks awesome. They don't show any rain until latter in the afternoon, so a morning session will probably be awesome.skimtwashington - 14-12-2018 at 08:32 PM

too for an all day session. Hope to see some of you guys there.Glx - 16-12-2018 at 04:59 PM
Wind was awesome today. Clean on shore winds in the mid teens. There were a lot of kites on the water but only 4 of us on land.
The good wind made for many runs in the high 30 mph and low 40 mph.
Got 78 miles in with a max of 45 mph.
What a day!

I've had a 7 & 10 tube for quite a few years now. Much nicer when the winds are gusty. Today was east winds but we had some rain earlier and
tubes don't get all soggy . Still prefer fixed bridle over depower on most
days. N+1 you know. Truck is no longer big enough to carry everything:D.Gravityguy - 17-12-2018 at 08:29 AM

Hi abkayak. Friday they are showing rain for most of the day. Saturday looks better but low tide is at 447 PM which means that the beach should be
rideable around 1 pm. Winds look decent at 12-15 mph from the west. If you know for a fact you will be there around then I can swing by but
unfortunately will not be able to ride because I need to pick up people at the
airport around 3:30 PM.skimtwashington - 29-12-2018 at 03:04 PM
A nice turnout today of seven of us. Me on my Coyote Rollerblades, B-Roc on ATB, and the rest riding buggies. Winds were predicted 10-20mph but
were more like 16 - 29mph...
Not that punchy- wind would ramp up and stay way up for a couple minutes or so then drop back down for a minute or two. Glad I brought my smallest FB
kites.
Lotsa fun. Still waiting to get on frozen, but this was great consolation.

The strange thing is, as I was telling Dan, over the past 2 years while my harness was sitting on the shelf, my spreader bar seems to have shrank an
inch or two. Weird :dunno: :wink2:
Anyway, it was great to be back riding again. Here's some video of skimtwashington (our resident videographer who never makes it into the videos) and
buggydan coming in hot.

Nahant was awesome today. Wide, flat, hard hardpack with very high winds.
Plenty of kites on the water but none on land.
Would have been an awesome day to set a new PB. Shame that the desire for more speed got to me a couple of weeks back.

What happened?Juan - 18-3-2019 at 01:33 PM
Did you loose gravity?:oGlx - 18-3-2019 at 02:28 PM
Not kite related.
Downhill skiing in Western Mass decided that I was not going fast enough standing up because of wind resistance. Started crouching and adding a few
more mph, until an epic crash followed and ended up with an extra bone sticking up on my left wrist.
Lesson to be learned you dont bounce up like you are 20 when you start getting older.
No kitting for at least a couple more months, and more importantly missing on all the fun at WBB this spring. skimtwashington - 24-3-2019 at 04:46 PM

How did Nahant look today? I went there last week Sunday morning and there was seaweed and algae all over the beach.BeamerBob - 30-3-2019 at 07:08 PM
I finally got to ride at a local beach. I've never lived anywhere I could drive to a beach to Buggy in a few hours. I ride at Grand Isle south of New
Orleans. Just over from Port Fourchon where the helicopters take the oil rig workers to work from. Wind never seems to match the forecast and is
always more down the beach than onshore. But I put in about 12 miles and maybe 200 turns. A handful of times I had enough wind and angle to get a half
mile run down the beach if I worked the kite. I'm going to try a few other beaches next time opportunity rises. skimtwashington - 30-3-2019 at 07:22 PM
A lot can change in a day- never mind a week. All clear except last tenth of a mile at Lynn end.

Guys. My name is Matt and I'm a Boston Area kiter. I recently made a commitment to completely switch to foil kites and bought a quiver of FS Souls.
It's a bit intimidating and I'm wondering if anyone is available for hire to walk through some of the basics. I generally hydrofoil in Duxbury but I
live West of the city. Happy to travel to Nahant or pb. I'm mostly unsure if I've set up kites correctly and have some questions about solo landing
and launching tips since I ride solo a lot. I requested some help on Kiteforum and a member was kind enough to suggest I reach out to this generous
group. Cheers. Matt. abkayak - 3-4-2019 at 08:28 AM

Hi Matt. Most of the Nahant group are Fixed Bridal fliers(use 2 handles instead of depower/bar control)...so we won't be of much help. There are a
lot of kite surfers here who may be able to help when they are around setting up..but most use LEI single skins.

Four of us showed up to fly and ride for a super nice on'shore day. Winds barely broke single digits. ..so we had our biggest kites out.
Paul killed it with his 8.5 Blade... holding a lot of power. I had a 6.4 Blade and Peter had a PKD 6m Combat. Brian on Depower with a Gin Eskimo 14m.

Beach looked great. Did anyone get a chance to talk to anyone from the DCR about their recent restrictions on the beach. New management, new
opinions, misunderstanding?skimtwashington - 12-5-2019 at 10:23 AM
Dan talked to a DCR on site staff person. He needs to talk to the manager, because local staff will be kicking us off beach..
The Plover bird situation has expanded it's area and is one impetus towards restricting us.B-Roc - 12-5-2019 at 12:01 PM
The Plover bird situation has expanded it's area and is one impetus towards restricting us.
What a bunch of BS. Has anyone seen a plover there in the off season? They don't even start shutting Cape beaches down until late June or July. I
love animals and baby plovers are super cute but the whole plover thing is ridiculous. How endangered can the bird really be when it shuts down every
beach in the state because of nest sites. And maybe the DCR should do a little research. I believe I read in Cape Cod reports that plovers do worse
in restricted beaches because real efficient killers like foxes and coyotes and raptors wipe them out when we aren't around. O and the most
successful breed sites on the Cape have been the Eastham dump and the Orleans Stop and Shop dumpster area. But that doesn't fit the narrative so the
beaches remain shut.skimtwashington - 13-5-2019 at 09:39 AM
Actually the bird issue doesn't matter. If there were no birds, It's the idea that they see a something on wheels going fast down the beach with
lines in the air as inherently dangerous.
BTW... the District manager has not told Dan we cannot Buggy with kites. But the staff is going by 'the book, or at least some are.
In the mean time keep showing up to ride. Dan will do what he can.skimtwashington - 13-5-2019 at 03:07 PM

Howdy B-Roc.
Power kite season at Nahant has 'officially' begun.
No DCR around...free parking.
I was there again this afternoon and had excellent wind( speed and direction). A nice 68 degree temp and good surface conditions(and no red algae
except near rotary.
I'll be lurking there till the ice forms and then I'll be on the 'Q' or the 'W'(the other Walden Pond 4 mi from Nahant).
Nahant P'Kite season overlaps Ice season, so it's just really the beginning of an 8-month 'busy' season for riding on Asphalt ,sand, snow and ice.
