how was it rollin through the deep grass?

silvereaglekiter - 25-7-2008 at 08:19 PM

not to bad The winds were almost as smooth as the beach but to lite to really get some good speed :( Il be back up their in a month or so for another week:frog: I need some more seat time before going down to JIBE;-)

clintopher - 26-7-2008 at 05:23 AM

Wind is forecasted to pick up from the SE this afternoon. If it does and I can convince the Boss that kiting half of Saturday and all of Sunday is a good idea then I might be at Grandview around 3 or 4. I'll post again later on today if I'm on my way out there.

Clint

clintopher - 26-7-2008 at 05:23 AM

WELDNGOD - 26-7-2008 at 05:27 AM

clintopher - 26-7-2008 at 05:33 AM

WELDNGOD - 26-7-2008 at 05:44 AM

_____ - 26-7-2008 at 07:11 AM

Damn. I wouldnt be able to make it. Soonest I could get there would prob be 5 or so :(

I did have a nice little session yesterday with the Ace at Ocean View. Winds were about 3-4 and man that Ace flew sooo smooooth :)

Thats exactly what I wanted a larger kite for, days that little Beamer wouldnt go up.

clintopher - 26-7-2008 at 08:23 AM

Well, it looks like me and the boss are gonna go to a beach on the south side. Have fun.

_____ - 26-7-2008 at 06:30 PM

Are you guys planing on kiting in Hampton next weekend? Were taking next sunday off from the side job :) If the wind is good on Sunday Ill make it out. My mom wants to try the Beamer and my dad saud he would too so I think they will tag along too.

WELDNGOD - 26-7-2008 at 06:38 PM

Its possible ,but a little far out to call yet. but next weekend the low tide will be in the midday. it's a every other week thing with the tides. Now we gotta hope the wind shows up.

WELDNGOD - 27-7-2008 at 05:41 AM

Hey ,Clint when you get the FIREWALL gets passed to ya .Can I try it? It looks like a great kite, and you don't have that much Exp. with handles. All I use is handles, so I could coach ya a little;-) ,not to mention I would love to try it in a buggy:thumbup:

clintopher - 27-7-2008 at 07:06 PM

No problem...was kind of planning on it.

WELDNGOD - 27-7-2008 at 08:16 PM

YAY! I may get to finally meet you haha

WELDNGOD - 29-7-2008 at 06:43 PM

I only saw the tail end of the crash...you rolling around on the beach doing some fancy flying keeping that thing in the air.(nice work by the way)

It was great meeting everybody. Wish I would have had more time to stick around...especially since the wind picked up right as I was packing up. LOL.

silvereaglekiter - 3-8-2008 at 06:13 PM

WELDNGOD - 3-8-2008 at 06:51 PM

_____ - 4-8-2008 at 09:44 AM

So Ive got a buddy that wants to come out and try photographing us flying, buggying, boarding, jumping and all that jazz. Next time we all get up Ill have him come out too that way we dont need to worry about putting a kite down to take pictures

WELDNGOD - 4-8-2008 at 03:08 PM

Great! Today I came across what I believe will be a swan neck. And then I tripped over a set of siderails that have no bends in them. What luck!! Now if an axle would just fall out of a tree or somethin....:lol::lol::ninja::ninja::ninja::cool::cool::cool:

_____ - 4-8-2008 at 03:19 PM

Damn what luck. We just had our aluminum tree cut down too. hahah Awesome Donny thanks alot man
Youre finding the pieces alot faster than you thought you would man ;)

_____ - 5-8-2008 at 01:22 PM

Now that is lookin sexy :D

WELDNGOD - 5-8-2008 at 01:48 PM

:ninja:I didn't weld a thing for the co. today, but I did build a head tube, and a down tube then welded the head tube to the down tube. made upper and lower doublers that go on the fork plates to strengthen them . Welded them in place .took some pics. :ninja: Then I went out to my truck and took the wheels off the buggy.Pulled all the bearings ( 7 out of ten were completely froze up.) That's why Sunday my wheels were squeekin like hell, they were just turning on axles.Imagine how fast I coulda been going with bearings that worked. Anyhow I soaked em in PB blaster penetrant oil . I finally got em turning again and packed axle grease in em. Put it all back together and bam it was time to go home.:D :ninja: They are a little more noisy but better than just rollin on the ungreased axles:lol:
I need a beer .... and some 1 3/8" x 5/8" stainless bearings

_____ - 5-8-2008 at 01:58 PM

You need to stop by my house one day on the way home man. You work in va. beach right? Swing by my crib and you can have some cold ones before you get to the HRBT ;)

WELDNGOD - 5-8-2008 at 02:11 PM

might have to take ya up on that sometime bro':singing:

_____ - 5-8-2008 at 02:22 PM

WELDNGOD - 6-8-2008 at 10:07 AM

Good score Nick, that looks like 2 inch too. Less sewing, man I hate sewing( cause I suck at it ). are you gonna basket weave it like mine?

silvereaglekiter - 6-8-2008 at 10:39 AM

actually its only 1 inch. It's mil-spec flat webbing 1400 lb test if I read the tag right. Thinner then the rescue grade I'm use to

_____ - 6-8-2008 at 11:42 AM

I feel like a dumb ass cause you guys are getting all this stuff and sharing it and I cain get my hands on anything good for us except some paint for the buggy's or somthing :(

silvereaglekiter - 6-8-2008 at 12:04 PM

That's what friends are for

WELDNGOD - 6-8-2008 at 03:29 PM

" I get high, with a little help from my friends" ain't just words in a Beatles song, they are words to live by. And as mean as I can, and have been,I need to do all I can to get some more of that good wind karma

clintopher - 6-8-2008 at 03:46 PM

I got a project for you if you feel like banking some more karma points...then we'll both be able to reap the wind.

WELDNGOD - 6-8-2008 at 03:50 PM

shoot Clint!

WELDNGOD - 6-8-2008 at 04:02 PM

I wasn't complainin, I meant hit me with what you need and I'll get on it.

clintopher - 6-8-2008 at 04:22 PM

I want something like this http://www.biketrailershop.com/catalog/images/bob_trailer_ya...

except I want to use a rolleze beach wheel instead the bicycle tire so I can tote all my crap out past the rock pile without having to hump it on my back. Not only that, and this is the biggy, I'd really like to be involved in the build and learn a thing or two. It'd be really awesome if I could talk you into coming to my shop one day after work...we've got a welder there and plenty of pipe...of course most of it's black or stainless shed. 40. I might be able to talk the boss into ordering a stick of stainless tubing. That way it would resist corrosion and it wouldn't be so damn heavy.

Anyway, if you're up for it I can guarantee there would be a case of your favorite beer in your future. That, and you wouldn't have to fight the tunnel traffic, so really I'd be doing you a favor.

Clint

bye the way, don't hesitate to say HELLLLL NO SUCKA!!!! I know it's a lot to ask.

WELDNGOD - 6-8-2008 at 04:40 PM

If you can gather the materials needed , I can be your welder and you can be my assistant.

clintopher - 6-8-2008 at 05:58 PM

I'll start getting things together. What do you think I should get? Do you think the stainless tubing would do? If so what size? 1/2" or 5/8" maybe? Would .035 wall thickness be too thin? I'm thinking with gussets in the right places it'd probably work. One thing I'm not sure we have at the shop is stainless flat bar for the ends. Do you have any in your scrap pile?

Clint

WELDNGOD - 6-8-2008 at 06:06 PM

I will look around bro'

WELDNGOD - 6-8-2008 at 06:08 PM

Why stainless? are you planning on gettin it in the water?

clintopher - 6-8-2008 at 06:29 PM

I just figured it could be thinner, thus lighter than black pipe, if it were stainless. What metal were you thinking?

Black pipe would be easier for me to get...hell we've got plenty at the shop.

_____ - 6-8-2008 at 06:54 PM

We got black iron shed. 40 but I dont know if you would want to use that or not.

WELDNGOD - 6-8-2008 at 06:55 PM

yeah it could be thinner and lighter. but at cost, which is gettin higher every day.And getting more expensive to work( OSHA lowered the permissable exposure limit for hexavalent chromium( key ingredient in S.S.that is EXTREMELY CARCINOGENIC in the lungs) to an insanely low PPM.Which is driving up the cost of manufacturing and working it. Too bad I wasn't into this 15 yrs. ago, I had a job building a huge HIGH OUTPUT VACUUM INDUCED EVAPORATOR.( MAKES 250,000 gallons of fresh water a day out of seawater) The condensation tubes were made of TITANIUM!:D What a buggy that would make, light as aluminum and stronger than steel! I'll gather together some SS materials that I can get.

silvereaglekiter - 6-8-2008 at 07:17 PM

TITANIUM Buggy

clintopher - 6-8-2008 at 07:32 PM

Titanium would be great...let's do that. LOL

But seriously, what metal do you recommend?...and what size?

On another note, the old lady and I will probably be up at Grandview on Saturday morning. Three different weather models are projecting low teens and sub teens throughout the morning AND low tide is around 9:30.

WELDNGOD - 6-8-2008 at 07:33 PM

I knew nothing about this sport then:puzzled: But think about how light it coulda been!

WELDNGOD - 6-8-2008 at 08:08 PM

hey Clint we could not afford titanium I think it goes for hundreds of dollars a pound!:o Sat sounds great , not sure the wife can make it, but we will see how she feels. If not maybe she will let me go alone. But she gets tired of being in the house all the time. if I have to pull her out in the buggy , I will. Get up with me friday eve. and I will have a better idea what's up. I gotta get some sleep now ,I was not able to sleep very well last night. we will talk about materials sat.

BeamerBob - 7-8-2008 at 04:50 AM

New thread started about light buggies on an appropriate forum.

WELDNGOD - 7-8-2008 at 03:24 PM

I'm planning on going to the beach saturday, the wife wants to go fishin. I will pull her in the buggy if She can't make the long walk. 9:29 am low tide that day. sweet! Hope for wind  But it doesn't matter I'll be there any way, waiting for it.

clintopher - 7-8-2008 at 03:38 PM

The missus and myself will be there too. GFS, NAM, and WFS weather models are all predicting wind in the morning and they rarely agree so that's a good sign. But like you, we'll be there regardless.

I've got a few errands to run before then though. We're gonna do some fishing and we don't have any equipment or a license so I'll probably hit Walmart up tomorrow night to get everything. So now I'll have all my kite crap AND a bunch of fishing crap to lug out there. Luckily, my sis-in-law has a pretty sweet beach cart...gonna have to hit her up for it.

Clint

WELDNGOD - 7-8-2008 at 03:48 PM

Yeah we gotta get ya a kart or somethin.

_____ - 8-8-2008 at 10:51 AM

Anyone up for hitting up vabeach today? Winds are lookin ok.

WELDNGOD - 8-8-2008 at 03:06 PM

It's a little late for that bro', can't you wait till tommorow?

_____ - 8-8-2008 at 03:15 PM

haha yea I can wait. I have all weekend now, just hope the wind will be on my side. I was just bored today. I got home about 10am and had no plans for the day.

WELDNGOD - 8-8-2008 at 03:26 PM

So..... did ya go flyin?

clintopher - 8-8-2008 at 03:28 PM

The wind forecast changed for tomorrow...not supposed to pick up until the evening. But then again, it blew around 15 all day, and still is, at Grandview from the North and NNE and it wasn't supposed to do that. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I'll check the wind early tomorrow morning and if it's blowing we'll be there between 7 and 8, if not we'll probably come around low tide.

Clint

WELDNGOD - 8-8-2008 at 03:42 PM

I'm gonna be there wind or no wind , that place is like heaven to me! I'll bring my revolution 1.5 and if there isn't enough wind for you to kite board we can do tricks with it ,or just practice stunting foils. Practice makes perfect and flyin is flyin!

clintopher - 8-8-2008 at 03:56 PM

Make sure you bring the pink kite...Patsy will get a kick out of that.
