Just slipped and fell down on my tile floor at home. No drama no exciting story just slipped and landed flat on my butt.

No idea how long I'll be down. Several weeks at least.

Have fun and take a bunch of pictures.

Very funny with "buggy fever" indeed!

Checked several weather forecast updates at this point including windguru status til four more days for predicting NE and E on Saturday and Sunday presently... It looks like a good sign for H2O activity  and not great for buggy :sniff:. I looked at aerial virtual earth map and the Folly beach is about the same angle to Galveston beach (my home base) which ideal for approx. NW offshore or onshore SE wind directions... Gonna wait two more days for more accurate wake up call

EDIT: Looks like a NE wind on Saturday which would blow straight down the beach. Sunday is offering an ESE wind that would be directly onshore. Tridude, Will we just run on the end of the island with that NE wind? I guess low tide lets it get pretty wide on the SW end of the island?

yep, the south end at FB county park........................

yeah, but I mean after you ride one with wheels. You can't imagine the feeling it gives you right after you get past the horror of wishing it wouldn't go so fast. I remember on my second try, Angus was saying "sine the kite to get it to generate more power". And all the while, I was thinking it was already going faster than I was comfortable with and it was accelerating at the same time. I got it on my third try. Then the hook was set.

MadKiteBoy - 8-12-2008 at 07:46 PM

awesome.. my dad was tellin me how fun it was when he road with Angus,
im lookin forward to it.. and to meeting everyone... my father is having surgery (tore his minicus in his knee) so will someone please bring a "cripple" bug?

tridude - 8-12-2008 at 08:25 PM

ouch.......did he do it kiting? I tore my right medial meniscus twice while on active duty. A long rehab for sure, but plenty of quad rehab (squats/leg curls/no leg extensions!!!!!!!) will reduce odds this will happen again.

tridude - 9-12-2008 at 05:13 AM

for all those attending send me a U2U for my cell#.......................................3 days and a wake up.........................................

tridude - 9-12-2008 at 07:02 AM

forecasts are beginning to line up (NWS, seaweed, windmapper, intellicast, wx underground) so lets hope mother nature cooperates. Hate the surfing line. "you should have been here yesterday". Winds are looking NE in the 10 to 15 mph range with the possibility of a slight side on (ENE) later in the afternoon..............fingers crossed and the FB county park it is..................................

tridude - 9-12-2008 at 07:03 AM

no he did his hunting.. i tore my acl two years ago and strained it kiting not to long ago but its goin strong now..
is any one else going to be riding a landboard?? i would like some pointers on jumping

BeamerBob - 9-12-2008 at 12:49 PM

My son Wexler will be on his board but he is still in the mode of receiving pointers. Phreerider is your man on the board.

MadKiteBoy - 9-12-2008 at 01:08 PM

awesome.. yeah im still lookin for help as well.. i can ride but thats about it...
by they way jus incase i havent mentioned it.. Im Josh, Mels son

mgatc - 9-12-2008 at 02:46 PM

Tridude, U2U sent

PHREERIDER - 9-12-2008 at 03:10 PM

hopefully the wind will be good for something, def hit the landboard if not on the water i tend to do both if things are marginal for the water, stay suited and hooked all day.

New FUNJUNK TOO

HYPER VENOM 16 from kitesurfer

BeamerBob - 9-12-2008 at 04:17 PM

Josh, don't count out Tridude on the board either. He is more in attack mode on it and phreerider is more of a cruiser, like he's dancing with it totally in control. Maybe that reflects their personalities.

I figured out who you were based on you taunting Mel and calling him your dad. The matching quiver told a tale as well.

MadKiteBoy - 9-12-2008 at 06:09 PM

thats more of my style... when i snowboard i like to jus go out and hit it
so yeah.. i guess i will see who matches the way i like to ride best or better yet ill get pointers from everyone
lol... im a newb still... so... :o

tridude - 10-12-2008 at 06:17 AM

rec'd everyones phone #s..........if anyone has room for a cooler that would be great. With the kids, dog, boards, and kit, one cooler is all I can carry. Forecasts have all lined up about the same, NE at 12 to 15 mph or so. 2 dayz and a wake up!

BeamerBob - 10-12-2008 at 08:05 AM

I can throw in one of our 48 quart coolers. I can't believe we're almost there. Looks like enough wind to make the zippers happy too.

acampbell - 10-12-2008 at 09:51 AM

SecState gave me an extended exit visa so I booked a night locally - will be able to enjoy the whole day and dinner without worry of a late return trip.

So will you play some on Sunday or just head back after breakfast?

Angus, if it isn't too much to ask, would you mind bringing that 4m Scout as an option for Wexler? The wind might go above what he wants for the Montana, which would probably be too much for him and the crossfire. That Scout would be better for him than going all the way down to the Beamer.

acampbell - 10-12-2008 at 01:52 PM

Will head back Sunday AM unless it sucks Saturday. Will bring Scout.

tridude - 10-12-2008 at 07:41 PM

NWS update.......NE @ 15 to 20 kts gusting to 25mph......Bob, you better bring that 3m Beamer, of course the 13m V will be available........................

I call Molly the HSC----Home Station Commander

mgatc - 10-12-2008 at 07:43 PM

Did this front stall out or slow down? Thought it was supposed to be gone by Friday?

BeamerBob - 10-12-2008 at 07:46 PM

weather channel is calling for 55 for a high now but still 10 mph from the NE. Are they behind the other guys?

intellicast says the same thing.

tridude - 10-12-2008 at 07:48 PM

good questing..............Im thinking we will see about 15kts from the NE. Im basing this off the swell height, direction, and wave size forecasted for Saturday...........................:puzzled:

mgatc - 10-12-2008 at 08:00 PM

Marine forecast is in conflict with the ground stations on the velocity. Both agree on the direction. Did appear that the swell heights were diminishing so T-dude may have called this one. Bump

tracktROB - 10-12-2008 at 09:12 PM

NE means "No Excitement" and SE means "So Excitement" for land buggy...

BeamerBob - 11-12-2008 at 07:52 AM

Well, in my excited anticipation, I got my prototype backrest installed last night. I also aired up my tires in the buggy. I let the pressure drop to about 17 for riding on bumpy grass but wanted them tight for the hard sand. I will get the car loaded tomorrow. Still looking like about 9-10 from the NE at last check of the weather channel.

Rob, I guess you will bring your comp XR? Are you able to get it in it's own suitcase for travel? I wonder what that looks like if they xray the luggage.

PHREERIDER - 11-12-2008 at 08:05 AM

VERY TOUGH CALL ON THE BREEZE.

IT HAS BEEN ALL OVER PLACE HERE THE FORECAST HAS BEEN A ZERO HERE

TODAY IT SUPPOSED TO RAGE MIDDAY WE'LL SEE

From my experienced travelling - my Libre full race, Libre special, or PL comp XR can fit in my super size SKB hard golf case while wheels goes to kite duffel bag. No problems going thru security several times and TSA always opened it as buggy parts are unusually seen before. I was planning to bring my Libre special this weekend but my daughter and wife got sick from school virus today plus NE wind is no excitement to come all the way from Texas..... Hope you all locally from Carolinas and Georgia have fun. Let me know the next event next year and of course JIBE is on my calendar already :wink2:

tridude - 11-12-2008 at 01:27 PM

sorry you cant make it Rob.............the bug is goin around......look forward to meeting you at JIBE...............................

tridude - 11-12-2008 at 01:31 PM

that puts us at eight riders, nine if Stan makes it. Thats 7 more than I usually ride with! About a 50/50 split with buggies/boards...........................works for me!

National Weather Service Marine Forecast for CHS

N WINDS 15 TO 20 KT...BECOMING NE 10 TO 15 KT IN THE
AFTERNOON. SEAS 3 TO 4 FT.

BeamerBob - 12-12-2008 at 04:34 AM

weather channel has bumped up to 11 mph NNE but that is a big gap between the forecasts. The national weather service is catching up to tridudes forecast now.

tridude - 12-12-2008 at 05:06 AM

down to a wake up:thumbup: Im headed down later this morning to catch a few waves................forecasted 9 feet at 10 am. Ill swing by the county park on my way home for a looksee. Swell is out of the south so the beach should look pretty good. Off shore winds today so waves and beach will clean up. County Park isnt known for waves unless everywhere is is closing out, which is good for the sand/buggy/KGB. Anywho, a check this morning with report to follow.................

tridude - 12-12-2008 at 06:16 AM

out here......waves are crankin pretty good. Winds off shore about 13 knots. Every now and then we get some head hi plus conditions..............................

tridude - 12-12-2008 at 12:26 PM

main beach is looking good, the point was a bit narrow and softer sand.............. good new is with a NE you can run a longer diagonal on main beach.............you buggy guys shouldnt have any problems with a good upwind sail....................

lunchbox - 12-12-2008 at 02:44 PM

Man, that beach looks amazing...you are lucky to live in such a beautiful place!

Wish I was going...maybe JIBE next year...

tridude - 12-12-2008 at 05:58 PM

Thanx LB, best time of the year with tourists gone...........no safety issues on an empty beach. There was no charge to enter the park this morning but just in case have a fiver ready...........................

PHREERIDER - 12-12-2008 at 07:28 PM

safe drive everyone

Sandman - 12-12-2008 at 07:35 PM

you guys have fun down there and be careful on the roads.

dylanj423 - 12-12-2008 at 10:36 PM

Man, that is a pretty spot. I'm jealous. You guys have fun out there.

BeamerBob - 13-12-2008 at 05:14 AM

headin out in the next half hour. Everyone get there safe. Tridude says watch out for the traffic cops in the construction zone on 26 if you come that way. Those pics are amazing. Better than google maps makes it look. over and out.

tridude - 13-12-2008 at 05:22 AM

drive safe and see you all at FB...winds are N @16 mph at the moment!

tridude - 13-12-2008 at 05:56 AM

I 26 exit 209 to 212 (I 526 interchange) is under construction. Make sure your doing at or just above 55mph. SCHP (South Carolina Highway Patrol) are thick on the weekends. Also, at exit 218 (Citadel exit) the limit drops to 50mph. Again make sure you under 55. Your gonna get passed by at least 50 vehicles before your reach the cross town (exit 221) but you wont be getting a ticket. Friend of mine just bought a $185 ticket here. Clocked at 74 in a 50.

Today at 1:00 PM is the annual FB Christmas parade for those of you, spouses, non flyers that may want to attend....................

see you there!!:bouncy:

Sandman - 13-12-2008 at 06:01 AM

hmmmm, are kite buggies allowed in a Christmas parade ??

tridude - 13-12-2008 at 06:59 AM

sure why not santa surfs at Folly.........................the FUNJUNK is loaded, see you there!!!

tracktROB - 13-12-2008 at 08:39 AM

Yikes! Nice pics of the point and the main beach, tridude! I'm gonna make up next time....................... Guess what, my family passed the flu bug to me on this Saturday, urgh.

The wind is almost dead here in Florida.

MadKiteBoy - 13-12-2008 at 09:04 PM

Quick review with more to follow, I'm sure.

Epic day!

Wind at the start was out of the north at 12 to 15. Got steady throughout the day at 12 until the afternoon, then probably around 10 to finish out the day. Early direction allowed for some diaganols but there was plenty of beach for it. Afternoon wind moved about 30 degrees to our favor and allowed for longer rides with some going well into the wind while parallel to the shoreline.

In attendance: ACampbell, Tridude, Phreerider, BeamerBob with son Wexler, wife Elizabeth, and son ???, Pokitetrash with children (I think, if not, sorry Chris), and MGATC with son madkiteboy. Wonderful group of people and some excellent kiters.

Board and buggys ruled the day along with larger sails. Phreerider kitesurfed the morning at the north end of the island and land boarded with the group in the afternoon.

I will begin posting pics in the gallery. Won't get them all up this evening. It's been a long day. I'm sure other posts will follow along with more photos.

To all who could not attend, sorry you were unable to make it. It truly was a great day with some great kiting company.

MadKiteBoy - 13-12-2008 at 09:33 PM

Pix are in the buggy gallery

lunchbox - 13-12-2008 at 10:38 PM

Great pics MKB...nice to put some faces with the names...seems like you guys had a great day! Looking forward to seeing some additional pics...

tridude - 14-12-2008 at 06:23 AM

great day out and thanx to all that made the trip..............I followed Madkiteboys lead and placed a few pics in the buggy gallery. Nice to meet some new faces and get together again with ACampbell and BB/family. Some serious quivers and riders yesterday. Look forward to doing this again very soon.......................

MadKiteBoy - 14-12-2008 at 10:03 AM

So do we have an official name for this???
Possibly FBKJ?
Folly Beach Kite Jam?

mgatc - 14-12-2008 at 10:41 AM

I failed to do a proper note of a proper note of appreciation last nite due to the late hour and the long but productive day.

Many thanks to all who attended. Kites, buggys, boards, and knowledge were all freely shared. It was so nice to put real people onto the monikers we all use on the forum.
My son and I came away from this one day with more knowledge than we have obtained in the last 3 months at the sod farm on our own. A huge step toward becoming safe and proficient kiters.
Thanks BeamerBob for suggesting this event in the first place. Thanks to Tridude for providing the best location for the conditions along with local knowledge of the area. (Hate we missed the meal at the Crab House) Thanks to everyone else for the generous use of your sails and boards and most importantly, your company and the sharing of your expertise.
Hope everyone had a good day on Sunday and a safe trip home.

Till next time.......

speleopower - 14-12-2008 at 07:19 PM

Looks like a good time. My friend and I had a mini kitebuggy, kite ATB meet up today here in Cocoa Beach. There was 4 of us plus a couple guys with land sailer type skateboards with windsurf masts.

Love the pic of the beach with all the different kites set up. Today here by my house there was about 10 kitesurfers, 3 ATB riders and 1 buggy rider. Out of all those riders there was 1 Blade (me), 1 Crossfire (buggy rider) and 12+ Best Waroos (all others). Sickening.

Scott

wexler - 14-12-2008 at 07:38 PM

For the people that missed sunday you really did not miss that much. The winds ended up being off-shore N NW. wind speed was not enough for my montanna 3 9.5 exept for at the beginning day. Also there was just about 50 ft of hard sand for bugging or boarding. But I had a blast on Saturday.

PHREERIDER - 14-12-2008 at 08:09 PM

nice trip to folly beach ...great water session and nice to ride with everyone in the afternoon
water session @ northern point, 16-18knots , got suited and lit up on the V!3 great spot alot of short peak waves/chop and very rough ...off the eastern corner a nice flat spot the rest of the beach front south was shadow gusty side off . temp 41 degrees F water temp ? i did where booties. the area was technically off shore the launch spot was side shore only for 1/4 mile. started around 10 changed over to the V16 around 12, wind dropped to nothing bagged it. drove down to the county park to check out the crew and glad a little breeze had hung on as it turned to NE.

taken over the beach!

beautiful sunny day, warmed up a bit , ATB comes out for the dry cycle.

everybody's flying

everybody's riding

it's all good.

Mel, you made the same observation I did after my first event. Everyone wants to share their stuff, and their expertise. You are right, you learn so much more among a group like that than trying to figure stuff out on your own. You think you have it all figured out and then you see or hear something that opens your eyes to things you hadn't even considered.

What a weekend! Wexler was right, the conditions weren't better today as expected but instead not quite as good as Saturday. We put some miles on the buggies anyway though. Saturday was epic though. Not perfect beach cruising conditions but enough beach for everyone to stay out of each others way. Great kite manners and etiquette shown by all. This bunch knows how to handle their equipment. And SO much stuff to try. The day was over without getting to do everything I wanted to do. I wanted to buggy with the Montana, and an ARC, but it didn't happen and then we had to pack up before the park closed. I hope we can do this one again. Like has been said before, many thanks to tridude for his legwork and hospitality. He was most gracious and helpful. Quite the gentleman and friend. I always enjoy getting together with Tridude and acampbell, now phreerider is a staple at any event cooked up in our forming group. And now we have Mel and Josh that have the fever real bad. This whole group just couldn't be any better unless there were more of us. I'm sure whichever beach it happens at, we will be together much more as time goes on.

I'll post some of our pics tomorrow.

Folly Beach Kite Jam has my vote.

tridude - 14-12-2008 at 10:07 PM

thanks Bob and well stated...............so many kites, so little time. As usual, ACampbell was there providing technical assistance and photos, as well as rippin it up on the bug. Bob and Wexler are always a pleasure to fly with. Phreerider, rides free and hard. Meeting Mel, Josh, and Chris put the icing on the cake. A few had their first Arc experience and I think AC will be ordering a couple arcs real soon:yes::lol: Big props for Wexlers 9.5 Montana 3. This kite rocks, somebody should gobble this one up. Pokitetrash, BB, and AC were rocking in their bugs with the Flexi Blurr. If I buggied, Id own one....schweet sail. Thanks as well to Mel and Josh. Love your 11m Neo and Joshs' MBS board. Josh was really crankin his transitions by dayz end and Mel (bad Knee and all) flew the Hyper Venom and ripped it in the buggy on his Neo. Pokitetrash and daughter in tow, worked his bug up and down the beach with ease using his Flexi Blurr. Last but not least, Ms. BB and Jared for braving the breezy, cool conditions.................great day, people, kites, and equipment.................

pokitetrash - 15-12-2008 at 05:17 AM

Maaan, I tell you what! I had a great time both days, especially with all the friends and kids; that's what this sport is about for me--It also helps to get a kitchen pass from my wife if I can do something with my kids! Yea, Saturday was the best time, but I can't complain about the flakey winds on Sunday because a bad day of kiting is still waaaaay better than a good day of work! Oh, and I found every deep tidal pool on the island I think.

Anyone who wants to fly at Beech Island polo field, in Aiken (Tridude?) holla me a U2U and I'll send you the waiver form.

Thanks BeamerBob for getting it rollin'! Hopefully see you Mothers Day. Now if I can con my wife into that-- I'll be the MAAN!

I still would have liked to stay on Sunday to play, but the attack of gout that took out my left foot Saturday night is still with me. I could not have gotten on to the beach and could just drive home with my good right foot. Sux getting old.

Had a great dinner with (most of) the crew Saturday night. Folly Beach Kite Jam is on my permanent calendar. Props to Bobby for the initiative and Tridude for the local intel.

[Edit] "Had a great dinner with (most of) the crew..." means some could not make it to dinner, not that some were not enjoyable. Concision prompted by typing on an iPhone can lead to poor phrasing. ;-)

BeamerBob - 15-12-2008 at 07:03 AM

The foils and ARCs definitely had air superiority at Folly this weekend. There was a guy that came for his first go on his 9m Eclipse inflatable. He had taken a few lessons but wasn't oriented on his safeties or his depower. Chris and I helped him as much as we could. He couldn't get it to fly due to not enough wind and was noticing Wexler running up and down the beach on his board and started asking questions about kite size and such. I guess he was wondering why Wexler's 9.5m Montana III was flying so well and his 9m couldn't be coaxed up in the air. He eventually got it airborne and got more familiar with it. Definitely nice to have "our" kind of kites dominant on the beach. Pics posted this afternoon. I'm stuck at work and they even expect me to get stuff done again.

speleopower - 16-12-2008 at 04:19 PM

Ok, I'll tell it like it is. Blimps suck. Foils rule. :wee:

Glad the guy got to see some nice kites flying other than inflatos.

Wish I could have made it up there.

The wife wants to know what went on at that beach... I limp home with gout, now Chris loses a gall bladder... Anyone else aflicted?

Please send my best to Chris for a speedy recovery.

I had buggy abs but that is dissipating quickly. Almost no definition at all any more. :(

I'll pass on the well wishes. Just talked to his wife and he was in and out in 40 minutes. No complications at all. On to recovery now.

Friends, I'm doing well, not alot of pain, thanks for the concern and thoughts. Had an easy time in the surgery, no problems; but they forgot to do the tummy tuck and the man-boob lift! The doctor told my wife to get me walking around so my wife conned me into Christmas shopping. I feel like the old man from the old Laugh-In show who shuffled along (Tim Conway?) at a snails pace but I made it and now heading for my easy chair to watch some more dumb movies. I should be back in the buggy in about 3-4 weeks. Not supposed to pick anything up that I can't put in my mouth for 2 weeks-- I had no problem with a foot long sub, large pizza, --I might have to refigure the max weight rating of the tamdem "Weight Train" BeamerBob and I rode, after my "recovery"!

Looking forward to another trip ANYWHERE!

Chris

Someday we must admit our wives are smarter than us. Well maybe not to them.

Trips to sand and wind are good things for sure, especially with great friends that love kites.

Ouch! Bummer on the surgery. Did you know that was coming or was it emergency?

Take some pics of the scars!!! Here's mine. :wee: I love it and hate it at the same time!

I had super killer kitesurf/ATB abs and all but had heart surgery.

Recovery should be pretty quick.

Good luck-Scott

nice zipper ....how recent was that

pokitetrash - 18-12-2008 at 02:19 PM

Speleopower, I knew it was coming. I had it planned to buggy at Folly for a last hurrah for a few weeks. My scars won't be as cool as yours though. Just a few poke holes and a 2 inch incision. I had great beer abs before the surgery. Well, I'll still have great beer abs...

I tried a couple times and couldn't make it through the upload process here so I put all my pics on flickr. Just click the link in my sig and the FBKJ pics are on the first two pages. I'll add descriptions later. I wish I had more pics of everyone but isn't that always the case?

Sweet pics! Thanks for posting.

My zipper is from March Friday the 13 2002! Got a transplant human aortic valve and "gor-tex" ascending aorta :wee:

I've also had big surgery on my shoulder with 8 holes punched. That was from excessive bone growth pinching my tendons. I'm big boned :tumble:
