We will probably make some vids when we can stay on the board for more than a few seconds...I don't necessarily think its an issue with balance or anything,,,probably just the wind and its stupid gusts.

Very nice. I take it that session with me helped?

ragden - 4-12-2009 at 06:37 AM

Very cool. Glad you guys got out. Hope to see some folks Sunday. Though I'm not sure where I am going yet (if winds hold). :)

Yes the session was very helpful, and the pointers were great. But you can talk all day long but it really comes down to just trying and trying until you get it. Then the pointers come in handy.

Maven454 - 4-12-2009 at 10:06 AM

Yeah.

shehatesmyhobbies - 5-12-2009 at 07:41 AM

Frat,I got to hang out with Jim Cosca in the spring at cape kite fest. What a great guy. I am glad to hear that he got his foils going.I have seen his stunt kites and am anxious to see the foils I will have to give him a call and see if I can get him to send me one to demo. Have a nice trip in Boston

power - 6-12-2009 at 04:24 PM

Just wondering who got out this weekend, it seemed like the winds were good in DC, possibly some snowkiting:dunno:

Frathouse - 6-12-2009 at 05:22 PM

Hey SHMH,

Yeah Jim is a great guy to know and if you get your hands on one of the Sky Dog Traction kites I think you'll really like it.

Knolee - 6-12-2009 at 07:22 PM

Power and I went snowkiting this weekend. Well, more specifically we flew our kites in the snow...it was fun though. The wind was really consistent on saturday, which made for some nice long scuds and great winds to test my strop out in (thanks tridude).

power - 6-12-2009 at 08:07 PM

Consistency in the winds makes a huge difference. The winds were just barely enough to keep my depower in the air but flying was so much fun because the kite's behavior was predictable. Also, a:thumbup: for scudding in the snow- so fun.

power - 7-12-2009 at 10:22 AM

Anyone available wednesday afternoon? It looks like the rain is supposed to stop before the afternoon and its supposed to be windy.

ragden - 7-12-2009 at 10:24 AM

REALLY depends on the wife. I am taking that day off for her Birthday... MIGHT be able to kite in the afternoon.. but its her call. I'll let you know..

Maven454 - 7-12-2009 at 01:47 PM

I'd be available. I assume you're planning on hitting the field?

lad - 7-12-2009 at 01:53 PM

TV Hill field...bowl...?

power - 7-12-2009 at 03:46 PM

The field.

Knolee - 7-12-2009 at 04:06 PM

I'll be there with him (most likely).

Maven454 - 8-12-2009 at 11:51 AM

I'm thinking Thursday looks better than Wednesday.

ragden - 8-12-2009 at 01:23 PM

Havent even mentioned this to the wife yet... I'll talk to her tonight... if I recall.

power - 8-12-2009 at 02:11 PM

Can't make it thursday.

pigryder - 9-12-2009 at 01:55 PM

Wow sounds like you guys got some good spots, Im probally a few hours away but could someone u2u or even email me the locations? I would love to try to make it there sometime and get to meet some of you guys.

Maven454 - 9-12-2009 at 04:06 PM

Was out today with power and Knolee at the field. The winds were quite erratic, but we enjoyed ourselves.

power - 9-12-2009 at 05:25 PM

Page view bump

power - 9-12-2009 at 05:26 PM

Gosh LEI's are a handful. At least with the inland gusties...

Todd - 16-12-2009 at 08:43 AM

Anyone for this weekend? I have the Libre Radical with me for some of you wanting to give this one a go. It's going to be a cold one!

ragden - 16-12-2009 at 09:14 AM

Might get out this weekend. Wife has been sucking up my time demanding that I "game" with her. We did hit Tugg Hill last weekend so I cant complain too much. If conditions are favorable, I will be heading out this weekend. I'd be curious to try to Radical. Where are you thinking about going Todd?

Pigryder, if you come down to DC and need a place to crash, let me know... :)

Todd - 16-12-2009 at 09:40 AM

I don't know really. Kind of wanting to see this field but not really caring where I go as long as I can get something in the air. It's been way too long without a session and can't wait to try some more GoPro HD!

lad - 16-12-2009 at 10:57 AM

Seems like it's always too rainy or muddy anymore in this region.
If conditions are right, I'll come out too (and bulk-pack the hand-warmers).

dtoast - 16-12-2009 at 05:48 PM

I'll try to make it, have not been out since Thanksgiving and sailing ended last weekend with that lovely rain we had Sunday so I'm finally free on Sundays too.

Knolee - 16-12-2009 at 06:04 PM

Are you guys talking about making it out to the radio tower field?

Frathouse - 16-12-2009 at 06:34 PM

Hey I am definitely in for some kiting this weekend. Its been too long and the mud doesn't bother me :) Just let me know when and where. If the wind doesn't work out anyone interested in going snowboarding up at Roundtop in Lewisberry, PA?

Brad
Three01-3nine5-9six57

ragden - 17-12-2009 at 07:23 AM

I'll have to check into how much of Roundtop is open. I have had a couple season passes there before and know the mountain well. Worst case scenario, I'll head up there with ya bud. Would rather fly some kites, but we'll see what happens. I'll keep ya posted. :)

Frathouse - 17-12-2009 at 05:43 PM

Yeah if the wind is up I hope to be out in the buggy. Roundtop should be good if the wind is not favorable. My friend Carlo has been twice since they opened up and had fairly good conditions.

power - 17-12-2009 at 05:49 PM

Winds supposed to be good saturday and sunday, + snow.

Frathouse - 17-12-2009 at 05:55 PM

Is anyone planning on going to Tugg Hill in January? I would really like to go sometime.

power - 17-12-2009 at 06:00 PM

Me hopefully.

Frathouse - 17-12-2009 at 06:04 PM

Yeah the wind does look good this weekend. I guess I just need to know when and where people want to kite.

Frathouse - 17-12-2009 at 07:28 PM

Would the bowl be good Saturday with a north wind? I would think a little more west would be better.

ragden - 18-12-2009 at 06:49 AM

Full on North at the Bowl would be rideable. Not the best conditions, but it might be alright. If we get as much snow as expected, it might be fun to snowkite there. Though it is a bit small. I might have to head over and take a look. The radio tower might also work as a snowkite location if it gets enough snow. Might have to check them both out Saturday morning. Depending on when I wake up, and what the snow looks like...

Maven454 - 18-12-2009 at 06:55 AM

I've discussed snowkiting in Pennsylvania with snobdr on Sunday so I can pick up the board he's selling me.

ragden - 18-12-2009 at 07:04 AM

Where at?

Maven454 - 18-12-2009 at 07:11 AM

You'd have to ask him :D. Somewhere near his place I believe.

Frathouse - 19-12-2009 at 08:43 AM

anyone going snowkiting today?

Maven454 - 19-12-2009 at 08:45 AM

HA! I can't even see the roads out there. But I can watch people sliding around as they try to make turns. So I'm staying here.

Hopefully tomorrow, I'll head up to Penn and go kiting with snobdr.

Frathouse - 19-12-2009 at 09:08 AM

Yeah I hate to agree with you but I doubt I will be going anywhere today. I really want to get out and try to snowkite

power - 19-12-2009 at 09:08 AM

10 inches of fresh powder. Winds 15g20. But no one to give me a ride! Winds are good for tomorow, anyone up for snowkiting?

Knolee - 19-12-2009 at 11:13 AM

You'll have to drive me too. I'm in the neighborhood with power though:bigok:

Frathouse - 19-12-2009 at 05:59 PM

Hey Maven

Can I join you in PA tomorrow?

power - 19-12-2009 at 07:24 PM

Who's available for some local flying tomorrow?

Frathouse - 19-12-2009 at 07:44 PM

I might be if everything falls through. Might be fun to snowkite the washington memorial if the subways open back up

Knolee - 19-12-2009 at 08:04 PM

I'd be really surprised if you could even make it to the subways,,,on foot.:tumble::lol:

Maven454 - 20-12-2009 at 07:54 AM

Change of plans. Going up to PA is off, Frathouse says that the roads are terrible. Thinking of heading to the field at a bit after noon.

power - 20-12-2009 at 04:49 PM

How was flying today?

Maven454 - 20-12-2009 at 04:54 PM

Not too bad. Wish I'd have had a snowboard. Ragden put in a lot of miles.

power - 20-12-2009 at 05:24 PM

Wish I could have been there. Too bad wind's not supposed to be good for a while. Snow will probably be gone by the next time the wind's up.

ragden - 20-12-2009 at 08:55 PM

Today was a lot of fun... :)
I put in 7.5 miles in my first session, but forgot to turn on my gps for the second session :(
Snow was great, winds were a bit gusty. Then some jackass tore up the field. After that, things got rough.

power - 20-12-2009 at 09:04 PM

What do you mean tore it up?

Maven454 - 21-12-2009 at 03:52 AM

He means that he (ragden), the "jackass" in question, put all kinds of ruts and such in it with his snowboard :D.

power - 21-12-2009 at 07:33 AM

Wish I could say the same. How hard was it to get going in 2 feet of powder?

dtoast - 21-12-2009 at 09:13 AM

Wish I made it out, what field were you at?

Maven454 - 21-12-2009 at 10:57 AM

Anacostia.

ragden - 22-12-2009 at 07:31 AM

Getting going in 2ft of powder is the same as 3ft of powder. :)
It takes a little bit of power to get you up on the board, but once you start moving you are fine. The problem you run into is if you arent prepared for the power. Which you will need to bleed off as you start riding. Takes some practice. Suffice to say its a little easier to learn in 1-2ft of powder than in 3+. However the starts will be very similar to riding in water, where you need significant power to get up on the board. :)

Todd - 22-12-2009 at 08:15 AM

Any weekend plans yet? I have the Radical that needs to be used before I have to send it off to Bobalooie.

ragden - 22-12-2009 at 08:34 AM

Snowkite Friday? If there is still snow and the rain holds off (praying it does), then I'll head out to snowkite christmas day... but aside from that, I have no plans. If there is wind, I'll want to fly somewhere... Not sure about trying to buggy in a field with light snow cover... but if there is enough snow, I'll bring my board out... :)

power - 22-12-2009 at 08:58 AM

It appears that friday is going to be windless and cold and rainy. Other than that a really nice day:piggy: Sunday looks pretty good. And monday too, I'm off all next week because of winter break. Anyone for the weekend?

ragden - 22-12-2009 at 11:26 AM

Windless, cold and rainy, LAME!
I have to work next week, so I cant kite on Monday. Lets see how the forecast shapes up for the weekend...

Todd - 22-12-2009 at 12:00 PM

Ragden, I don't think I would try my buggy in the snow. I know how slick it is in wet grass; however I have Corey’s buggy hooked up with Peter Lynn snow skis for the XR. They’re pretty slick and also have a 12 inch blade on the bottom for the Ice. I don't think it would be wise for me to be on a board either... too much titanium and not enough medical insurance

ragden - 22-12-2009 at 12:31 PM

Todd- I totally understand. Would you be riding Corey's buggy in the snow, or is that something you hooked up for him?

Todd - 22-12-2009 at 12:58 PM

I'd like to give it a try while I'm have a set made for the Libre but the over all goal would be for the both of us to join you guys in the fun.

power - 22-12-2009 at 07:08 PM

@Todd- I know you can hold an edge with a snowboard by leaning back, but how do you prevent sliding downwind in a buggy with snow skis?

Todd - 23-12-2009 at 06:35 AM

It has a 12 inch blade going down the center of it.

ragden - 23-12-2009 at 07:20 AM

Weather this weekend doesnt look too favorable. Cold I can handle. Riding in freezing mud.. not so sure I want to do that. Lets see if things get better. Sunday might be rideable, it all depends on how much snow is lost and how much it rains...

shehatesmyhobbies - 24-12-2009 at 03:35 PM

Happy Holidays to all my local kite friends. I really hope that I can get a weekend off soon where it is not raining and catch up with you guys in MD. Gotta check out your spot! Have a safe day and I hope that you find a new kite in your quiver!

power - 26-12-2009 at 10:43 AM

Anyone up for some kiting tomorow? And monday and tuesday? Wind looks good for all three days.

ragden - 27-12-2009 at 09:23 AM

WSW winds through most of the day, where were you thinking of going? I am sitting in the theatre waiting for Avatar to start. Might head out after, but I am not sure where to go on these winds. Will probably just go home and watch another movie with the wife.

power - 27-12-2009 at 09:37 AM

WSW is actually good for the radio tower field, but I'm not sure how good our winds are going to be today. Let me know what if you want to head out or not.

ragden - 27-12-2009 at 09:39 AM

Any ideas on the quality of the field? Pretty muddy or no? I am not up for a mud run today... :(

power - 27-12-2009 at 09:42 AM

The field has some real good drainadge. To be honest its never been muddy after a rain when I've been there. But there has been snow on that field for a week and we just had a bunch of rain so I don't if its dry or not. There might be a lot of patchy snow there would you take out the landboard or your snowboard?

ragden - 27-12-2009 at 09:49 AM

My snowboard is in the shop getting tuned up after the beating it took during my last session. All I have right now is my buggy...

Maven454 - 27-12-2009 at 09:49 AM

He doesn't use a land board and he wouldn't use his snowboard in just a little bit of snow. I'm betting on the buggy.

He responded while I was typing :(.

Knolee - 27-12-2009 at 10:16 AM

My guess is it's pretty wet there still. Tomorrow should be pretty good because the temp might make it close to 50 today and most of the water that doesn't drain can evaporate. Can't wait to try out my new AK, but I don't want to get it filthy.

power - 27-12-2009 at 12:12 PM

@Maven454- you think you can make it to the field tomorow?

Maven454 - 27-12-2009 at 12:21 PM

Only after work.

power - 27-12-2009 at 02:05 PM

Maybe three times a charm with the scorpion?:P

supertodd88 - 27-12-2009 at 07:57 PM

Anyone going out tomorrow or tuesday and feel like helping me out a little with some pointers. I want to try my landboard out and have never been on it before. I also just happen to have the whole week off. I've practiced flying my trainer kite a bunch of times and I think I'm ready to actually start going somewhere with it. I was hoping to try snowkiting because I am more used to a snowboard but it just didn't happen. I think as soon as I start boarding I am going to be totally obsessed with it. My wife would say I already am.

power - 27-12-2009 at 08:03 PM

I'll be out. And I also have the rest of the week off and there should be wind at least a few days. What kind of kite do you have? I'm somewhat of a newbie myself but certainly have some experience and could help you out with the beginning stages. I know a lot if the right ways to do things I just don't always do them myself:D

supertodd88 - 27-12-2009 at 08:08 PM

All I have right now is an HQ Beamer TSR 3.6 and a fairly old mountain board that somebody gave to my old snowboarding buddy but he was too scared to really use it so he will probably let me keep it forever. I'm sure its not the best set-up but hopefully it will do for a little while.

power - 27-12-2009 at 08:11 PM

I'll let you try my depower if we go tomorow we should have some good winds for it. Your beamer should be fine for now. Isn't the tsr on a bar or something like that?

supertodd88 - 27-12-2009 at 08:26 PM

Yeah, it does have a control bar. What time would you go? I have to take my kid to a playdate from something like 10:30 to 12:30 so I would probably go after that.

power - 27-12-2009 at 09:30 PM

Shoot me a U2U we can discuss this further there.

Maven454 - 28-12-2009 at 05:03 AM

Don't think I'll be out at the field today power, I have a number of other things that I have to take care of.

power - 28-12-2009 at 07:25 AM

Anyone who wants to come and fly at the radio tower field today?

ragden - 28-12-2009 at 07:37 AM

Working, sorry...

Knolee - 28-12-2009 at 08:00 AM

Work, more important than kiting!? Mike.....:eekdrull::lol:

The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire... we don't need.....

Ah never mind.

I hope for some wind this weekend, couldn't tell you the last time I had a kite in the air. :o

Come up to Tugg Hill with us? Bring yer "snow-buggy"? :saint:

Frathouse - 28-12-2009 at 09:14 AM

Hey Ragden
When are you going to Tugg Hill I would like to join if I can.

-Brad

Frathouse - 28-12-2009 at 09:15 AM

All the snow melted up here in CT, wishing for snow and wind on my vacation!!!

ragden - 28-12-2009 at 09:40 AM

If Bob says they have snow, we will be heading out Thursday night (after I get home from work) and coming home Sunday. I would offer you a ride, but if you are already in CT, then that is a bit out of my way... :)

power - 28-12-2009 at 07:59 PM

Anyone available for kiting tomorow? Please!
