Awesome, my roommates and I were talking about anyone who kites on the mall durning this storm is going to make the Post...well done boys.

What kite was that and size?

dtoast - 11-2-2010 at 01:45 PM

bump

ragden - 12-2-2010 at 04:40 AM

Wasnt me, but I'm sure that doesnt come as a huge surprise as you would recognize my kites... heh. heard some other folks went out yesterday and wednesday and had a really good time. Kind wish I'd been with them, oh well..

Anyone wanna go out today? I'll just burn some of my 100hrs of vacation time.. Who wants to go?

Frathouse - 12-2-2010 at 05:01 AM

How about tomorrow? want to go to centerville?

Maven454 - 12-2-2010 at 06:19 AM

I'd be up for something tomorrow, but I bet ragden is going to be running his game.

ragden - 12-2-2010 at 06:38 AM

Had completely forgot about that game thing.
Scratch that, I'm snowkiting. Dont get many opportunities like this. I'd go today, but not too wild about going by myself in conditions like this. Frathouse, drop me a line about tomorrow. I'll probably get up early and head out. :)

dtoast - 12-2-2010 at 07:56 AM

I'll be out of town, but anyone going to be around on Monday, its President's day?

power - 12-2-2010 at 10:55 PM

Tomorow looks great for the bowl, NNW 10-20. I haven't been on much lately because verizon still hasn't come out to fix our internet so I'm using my moms phone. Anyone available? Post or give me a call if you've got my number.

Speaking of kites at the snowy mall...FWIW:

shehatesmyhobbies - 15-2-2010 at 02:47 PM

Man I nee to get some kite time in! Hopefully over the weekend! Going to be welding gussets on the rear axle on the buggy tomorrow!

Happy winds everyone!

ragden - 16-2-2010 at 06:48 AM

This last weekend was a lot of fun. Didnt get many pictures as my wife wasnt feeling up to making the trek out there to take pictures (cannot really blame her, it was cold, windy, and the snow was deep). However, some of the other guys had camera's out. I'll see if I can round up some of those photos, if y'all are interested.

Frathouse - 16-2-2010 at 10:25 AM

Did you contact that guy with the high power camera that was taking pictures?

lad - 16-2-2010 at 10:33 AM

Anybody we know? (must be the "Other Maryland Todd")

Maryland Snowkiting Day

renegade kiter - 16-2-2010 at 10:35 AM

Any of the dc crew planning on going to kitestorm? If they dont get snow might head up to the tug.

Frathouse - 16-2-2010 at 11:00 AM

I'm not going to kitestorm though I could be talked into going to tugg hill. If the wind is good this weekend and the snow doesn't melt the Centerville, MD site would be cheaper and easier to get too. Kind of like riding one of the small fields at tugg hill and was lots of fun this weekend.

ragden - 16-2-2010 at 11:01 AM

Still trying to track down the guy who lived out there. The contact information he gave was either bad, or I didnt get it right.

Cant make kitestorm, sorry bud. I'll be on my way to Mt. Tremblant. :)

renegade kiter - 16-2-2010 at 11:05 AM

Yea rag i knew you were out.
Winds might be better down here will have to wait and make decision on friday.

On a side note, im putting together a week long OBX trip for april or may. If your interested drop me a U2U with your email.

Maven454 - 16-2-2010 at 11:15 AM

Wildwood is in May, don't forget about that ;-)

power - 16-2-2010 at 05:18 PM

Renegade- Would you consider some snowkiting down here this weekend? Frathouse? Might be the last weekend for local snowkiting, winds are supposed to be good both days.

Maven454 - 17-2-2010 at 04:13 AM

Kiting this weekend sounds good.

power - 19-2-2010 at 09:37 AM

Plans for this weekend? Who and where?

pigryder - 19-2-2010 at 02:19 PM

park tomorrow afternoon, snowkiting :tumble:

power - 19-2-2010 at 07:06 PM

Nice spot, is this the one in your landboard vid? Hey, you're not too far from Don, at Kiteplace.com. Do you know him? Great guy, say hi to him for me if you ever see him!

pigryder - 22-2-2010 at 05:52 AM

Yeh bob same place as the video, I've never been to Kiteplace but I know of it, If I ever get down there I'll tell him hi for ya

man I had a killer session there yesterday!

dtoast - 23-2-2010 at 09:48 AM

Saturday might be a good day for the bowl 14NW. Think it will still be a mud pit?

What isn't a mud pit nowadays? I haven't even been out to static fly because everything's soaked down here. Can you guys even ride the boards when it's this wet?

dtoast - 23-2-2010 at 11:27 AM

Power and I tried a few weeks ago. If you could get moving the board would stop instantly once you hit any muddy area and well then the kite would keep going to give you a nice mud bath. :wee:

Todd - 23-2-2010 at 11:52 AM

That's kind of what I was thinking, sure would like to see it dry up a little bit.

shehatesmyhobbies - 23-2-2010 at 12:46 PM

Definitely jonesn here in De as well! Haven't been out in weeks! I love winter, but come on Wild Wood Days!

dtoast - 23-2-2010 at 01:14 PM

You're telling me, I have this new Outlaw that has only been out once and that was in light air. It seems it's only ever perfect conditions when I am busy.

dtoast - 26-2-2010 at 09:01 AM

Anyone trying to make it out this weekend? I am planning on going out locally in Herndon if the field is not a mud pit.

@pigryder: Looks like you guys are getting some good snow for some snowkiting this weekend.

power - 27-2-2010 at 08:22 PM

Frathouse - 1-3-2010 at 09:52 AM

Hey Power! You left your socks in my car again!!! I don't know but that might have to ban you from my car . I love how your dad said that he thought if you didn't have your head screwed on you would have lost it by now.:Ange09:

power - 2-3-2010 at 04:10 PM

Can't BELIEVE I forgot them again! I've heard that statement from my dad too many times:embarrased::embarrased:

Knolee - 2-3-2010 at 07:18 PM

Oh god, I hope he didnt forget the febreeze either...

ragden - 5-3-2010 at 07:08 AM

Sorry I'll probably be in VA with my parents for the weekend. Think there's any rideable snow left up in baltimore?

Frathouse - 5-3-2010 at 11:08 AM

pigryder - 5-3-2010 at 02:34 PM

Video slide show of sunnie's photos of Ragden and me at the Bloomfield Farm.

http://www.vimeo.com/9980117

Todd - 7-3-2010 at 04:52 PM

Great pictures as always Sunnie and a great vid by FH. Thanks for sharing! That looks like a great spot to keep hush hush about so there's no spoilers like what happened at the sod farm.

bobalooie57 - 7-3-2010 at 05:05 PM

Good job on the pics and compilation. Looks like a great time was had!

ragden - 8-3-2010 at 05:52 AM

Was a fun field to ride. Wind was up and down. Ground was very rough. There were potholes and other odd obstacles that I didnt have trouble navigating, but the worst part was the plant growth. Looked like corn stalks that had been hacked off at about 3-6 inches. Not sure exactly what they were, but they made me real nervous about crashing my kite into the ground. I did crash my S3 a couple times, but fortunately came away with no damage to the kite...

shehatesmyhobbies - 9-3-2010 at 01:48 PM

Job well done on the video and the pictures it is made up of!

Man I need a kite day!

Maven, I'll meet up with you anytime...I just need to be in town and not working.

ragden - 9-3-2010 at 08:19 PM

this last weekend was more of a test for that field. we werent sure if it was going to be rideable or not... I'm still not sure I would go back there if I had other options...

power - 13-3-2010 at 08:36 AM

Anyone up for some kiting tomorrow?

Maven454 - 13-3-2010 at 08:37 AM

It's supposed to be raining all weekend last I looked...

power - 13-3-2010 at 08:41 AM

Tomorrow is not supposed to be that bad I think

Maven454 - 13-3-2010 at 08:44 AM

You're right. It's only an 80% chance of rain all day with winds all the way up to 8mph.

shehatesmyhobbies - 13-3-2010 at 01:21 PM

Conditions as they are power, you may be able to try out your kite board on any of your regular flying fields. Swamped over here!

power - 13-3-2010 at 02:50 PM

Haha, I think everywhere is swamped, but I'm DYING to get out. Rain, shine, sleet or snow it doesn't matter at this point!

ragden - 15-3-2010 at 05:04 AM

Yeah.... I didnt fly at all this past weekend. Bit too wet. Rain was pretty light at times, but I was busy doing other things. Maybe we will get a repreve sometime soon and be able to hit some of our local spots this coming weekend. If only the water would warm up some more...
:)

lad - 15-3-2010 at 06:26 AM

Ah Spring is coming...and my local swamp fields won't dry out for long until they become goose latrines! :(

Maven454 - 15-3-2010 at 06:27 AM

Aren't geese so much fun?

Yes, served on a dinner platter.

lad - 15-3-2010 at 08:12 AM

Maybe someone will eventually figure out how to make geese look and taste more like chicken, turkey...(anything other than goose, really).

Then my local pond alone could solve World Hunger. It has year-around flocks of those noisy, poopy domestics and Canuck expatriates. (Maybe when the Loony surpasses the dollar, then they'll finally go home?)

Visitors and their kids keep throwing food at them (against the posted rules). I keep thinking "Hey...on the park gravel today, then all over my fields, ripstop and wheels next week!"

ragden - 18-3-2010 at 10:00 AM

Looking at the possibility of a cold-water session this coming Sunday in Dewey, DE. Water temps are currently right around 49 degrees on the ocean side. I am hoping the bay will be a bit warmer (I would expect so with the shallower waters). Air temps are supposed to peak right around 60 degrees. Winds will be South, starting at about 11mph picking up to 16mph or so by 4pm. This is, of course, all subject to change. However, these predictions have been pretty consistent since Tuesday. Hard to say if it will change or not.

If it doesnt change too drastically, I'll head out Sunday morning for an all day session on the water. Anyone interested? Might be a tad bit cold in the water, but that's what a wetsuit is for.
:)
If you need a ride, directions, or whatever, drop me a line. Hope to see some folks there.

Tibi - 18-3-2010 at 10:11 AM

I still need a midsize kite (14 or 15) and I'll try to join the Dewey Beach crew this spring. For now I'm making plans for WW this weekend.

Will be fun to have you along my friend. I didnt think tides were right for this weekend at wildwood. Or did I misread them again? Also, didnt look like nearly enough wind on Saturday. Sunday might be a whole lot of fun, though, heading south might be a tad bit difficult... :)

power - 18-3-2010 at 01:45 PM

Might rent a wetsuit

Tibi - 19-3-2010 at 04:21 AM

Mike,
You're right about the low tides, they are pretty late in the day and the wind direction is not helping either. I don't know if I'm gonna go, yet. If at least the wind direction would improve...

Sorry bud. Still, if you have big wheels on your buggy, you could go up into the dunes and still have a good time. Sunset is getting later, so if you dont mind the trip, you could have a good time later in the afternoon once the tide starts going out.

I'm not heading in that direction, but if are, I hope you have some fun. If I didnt have to pay for gas and lodging, or spend 8 hrs in the car to get there and back, I'd be game. :)

power - 19-3-2010 at 07:12 AM

Anyone for land this weekend?

Maven454 - 19-3-2010 at 07:22 AM

Contemplating it, but the winds seem to look like *^%#.

Tibi - 22-3-2010 at 08:55 AM

On Sunday in WW, the winds were strong, but gusty (up to 20mph). I met with Martin and Petra at the end of the day. I didn't have their phone number and they didn't have mine... so we ended up playing in different areas of WW.

ragden - 22-3-2010 at 09:13 AM

Sounds pretty rough.
I was down in Dewey doing some kitesurfing. Had a BLAST. Winds were a bit light, but thats what the 15m S3 is for. Worked great. If I had to guess, I'd say winds started around 10mph, picked up to about 15, then died back down by the end of the day. I was riding my door for the majority of it, got to do about 45 minutes of riding on my rip 34, which was really fun.

Glad you got out, did you, at least, get some good rides in?

Knolee - 22-3-2010 at 12:52 PM

Chilly isn't it rag...what mm suit were you wearing?

Frathouse - 22-3-2010 at 01:09 PM

Ragden was wearing a 5:3 suit and I was wearing my 4:3. I was fine in the 4:3 and at times I felt hot mainly because I was working hard.

ragden - 23-3-2010 at 05:11 AM

Water didnt feel cold at all while I was out riding. I took a few dunks in the drink, but didnt really feel it. Though, when we were packing up, and I went to take off my booties in the water, I found out just how cold it was. When I reached down into the water to take them of, the cold hit my hands and that was when I realized that... holy **** its cold! Aside from that one moment, I was fine and I was in the water for probably close to 4 hrs...

power - 23-3-2010 at 06:48 AM

@Frathouse-How long did it take to learn how to self rescue/body drag before you could get out riding?

Frathouse - 24-3-2010 at 10:55 AM

Hey Power,

Body dragging and getting use to the water was not difficult spend 2-3hours on it. Water starts were difficult and I'm still working on it.

power - 24-3-2010 at 12:06 PM

Looks like I'll find out what it's all about in a couple of days!

ragden - 25-3-2010 at 05:16 AM

Was just checking the forecast, and this weekend might be a good time to head to wildwood. I'm seeing decent SE winds on Sunday. Anyone else seeing the same thing and thinking about heading out?

Maven454 - 25-3-2010 at 05:18 AM

I didn't look, but wouldn't be at all adverse.

Todd - 25-3-2010 at 10:13 AM

I was looking at that too... looks like almost a plan. I'm just wondering if that storm front is going to push into Sunday as well.

ragden - 25-3-2010 at 10:16 AM

Yeah, that could be a problem. I was wondering that myself. Lets keep our eyes on it and see what happens.

I have some friends trying to convince me to hit the water this weekend, rather than buggy... I'm not sure, yet, what I will be doing... but I'll definitely post whatever it is... :)

Todd - 25-3-2010 at 10:35 AM

While I'm thinking of it Ragden, I met an engineer that just moved down here over the past month and he's big into kite boarding. Sweet! Corey and I have an instructor!! I sent him a link here to get him to post up.

ragden - 25-3-2010 at 10:38 AM

LoL
Sounds like fun bud. Hope to see you on the water soon... :)

I'm planning on hitting Dewey/Delaware Seashore State Park on Saturday, but I might be up for Wildwood on Sunday as well.

dtoast - 25-3-2010 at 01:11 PM

Need some recommendations for a kite to pickup, used, so I can join you guys out on the water. Can only afford one right now, had to purchase a new car this weekend so my kite money is out the window for a few months…so don’t say a S3, that would be too cruel as I was saving up for one, but had to dump the money into the car.

dtoast - 25-3-2010 at 01:46 PM

Took my kites out of the old car and forgot to put them in the new car. Was going to go down to the Mall tonight after work but... :(

Anyone work down town to meet up sometime after work on the Mall in the next week or two?

ragden - 25-3-2010 at 03:44 PM

I have a Slingshot TD2, 11m that you can use to get started on the water. If you like it after using it a bit, we can discuss price. Otherwise, it can be something for you to learn with... no worries. :)

Just let me know when you want to head out, and i'll make sure you know where we are going. Do you have a wetsuit?

power - 25-3-2010 at 03:48 PM

I've got those LEIs that I had told you about a while ago, I'll let them go for real cheap. U2U me if you're interested.

Knolee - 25-3-2010 at 07:21 PM

Can anyone make it to Wildwood this weekend? I'm not positive I'm going yet, but the odds are in my favor. Wind looks like E 13-15 on sat and SE at 14 on sunday.....

power - 25-3-2010 at 07:30 PM

Everyone's going to be at NABX

Knolee - 25-3-2010 at 07:47 PM

rag, todd, frathouse, lad? are you going to nabx?
