beach hazards

The Jelly fish thread reminded me about the other day, I went to go over what I thought was a large sand castle that had fallen apart and needed to be flattened some more but it turned out to be a dead seal that had been roting for several days. It splattered all over my legs and in my face:barf: glad I wear glasses, still cant get rid of the smell on my boots. Guss it serves me right trying to destroy what was left of Camelot.

Was wondering what the is weirdest thing you folks have run over is.

The only things I have worry about in Arizona are rattle snakes and cactus.

As much a possible . I try & avoid hitting things but have come over dunes & landed on sharp dead tree stumps that have pierced tyres . Luckily, I haven't been pierced yet.

Our deserts have all sorts of interesting creatures and one of them is the dthub (Arabic). In English we call them Gentle Dragons but in reality thay are large spiny tailed lizards. These creatures have a habit of burrowing on the desert sabkkhas (flat plains).

I was cruising along in my DB-I and in the last moment did I see a large black headed dthub . I swerved just to miss him with my front wheel but expected him to get hit by my rear axle or rear wheel.

Like the proverbial cat with 9 lives, this dthub must have been blessed with these cat like qualities and quicly ducked under the rear axle.

Concerned that I had hit the poor creature I turned back to see if I could help what I thought would be an injured animal.

However, he looked at me rather indignantly as if to say. "Idiot. Why don't you watch where you are going?"

Anyhow, I took his pic with sincere apologies. You can see how angry is.

Holes and pits, dug into the sand by children and idiots. I know they are there to play, but there are joggers and some bikers that train there. It can be a real hazard at speed. I usually take a slow roll to look for hazards and kite killers(driftwood and limbs on the upper beach).

We have a guy who is digging holes in our park with the intention to hurt power kiters. One of the paraglider pilots who uses the park to practice was filling in his holes and the digger threatened to beat the crap out of him if he did not stop filling them. He also likes to leave large rocks and sticks in the long grass. DirtSlide thinks the guy had a beef with him last year and this is why he is doing it.

that is a bad situation there,Scud. I hope you guys get him sorted out before somebody gets hurt. If someone gets hurt ,I hope it is him.( sounds like he earned it). make sure ya' catch him red handed ( or black eyed ).:ninja::ninja::ninja:
