Where can I find bridle replacements?

blc0527 - 2-8-2009 at 08:08 AM

I have an HQ Crossfire 6.3 meter and one of lines on the main bridle is frayed and needs replaced. I have looked at HQ's site for replacements, but no luck. Any help would be appreciated!

I can check with them tomorrow for you. You might even hear Tim or Chris from HQ chime in here if they see this first. If no direct replacement are available for an older model, making a replacement will not be hard.

Thanks. I just emailed HQ with the given email address on the HQ website. Will be looking for a reply either way. Thanks again for your help!

Angus:

Just curious.... any idea what weight spectra cored dacron (yeah, I know the Flow doesn't use cored bridle cord) is prevalent among most power kites?

It seems to be fairly easy to get 100lb and 170lb LaserPro bridle cord from a lot of kite stores that specialize in dual lines, just wonder if that is something that can be dual purposed.

ATB,
Sam

I was looking at other kite stores online and found only the laser pro bridle line as well. Will wait to hear back something from HQ before ordering this however.

Did you e-mail HQ USA?
sales@hq-kites-usa.com

Probably faster

Just called them. They did not know the weight offhand but can get individual bridle segments from Germany. They saw his email and will take care of him. They are good about that stuff.

Speaking of bridle replacements, I've got a Pansh Ace that they appear to have screwed up the bridle on (switched two lines). The bridle lines are sewn and I was wondering if anyone knew the best way to correct them? Or more specifically, what thread to use when restitching them after correcting the problem?

blc0527 - 3-8-2009 at 03:40 PM

I received an email from HQ today and they actually have detailed photos of bridles, each string with its own number. If the attached file works, this is the pdf she sent me so I could verify which bridle I needed. Good stuff!

And Maven....

I have the Pansh Ace as well (5m). I haven't had bridle issues yet, as this kite is only about a year old. Do you have a pic of the bridle setup. Maybe I can compare it to mine.

Maven454 - 3-8-2009 at 03:46 PM

I don't have a pic, but if I hold it up by the bridle, it's fairly obvious. Instead of curving nicely from middle to tip on both sides, on one side one of the lines pulls it in further than the next one towards the tip. I'm fairly certain that they accidentally switched the line with it's neighboring line. I haven't flown it yet. It just showed up last week. If the bridle were knotted, I'd simply untie it and switch the lines, but since it's sewn, I don't know what kind of thread should be used to resew it.

I do not know about Pansh, but often you are able to un-do the slip knot at the Toggle and make the secondary bridle ends free. Then you are able to un-slip the secondary from the primaries, then you can remove the primaries. Just keep track of everything.

Maven454 - 4-8-2009 at 01:49 PM

I think it's sewn everywhere, but I'll have to double check.

DAKITEZ - 4-8-2009 at 02:15 PM

what Angus said is correct. You can tear down the whole ace bridal without un-stitching it. You will start where you flying lines connect onto the black knot. Just start slipping them off and keep track where they go ...

Another thing to check is it might just need to get un-twisted. I had many ace kites that need to have the black connector knot twisted through the bridles to get everything to stack correctly. No disconnecting anything is involved.

Right, thanks guys. I'll look at that then. Though when I'd pulled it out today and looked at it again, I realized that both sides appear the same (I swear they didn't before). So maybe it's correct. I think I'm going to have to fly it and see what it looks like in the air.
