Better day kiting

csa_deadon - 5-8-2009 at 07:23 PM

Not enough to get my lard butt and the buggy movin :)
Only 5-7 mph out of the west. Plenty to get my 5m Beamer up.

People coming up to me from behind and off to the side. No one from directly in front of me, which is amazing since beach access is from the east over the dunes.

Lots of people asking questions, and parents telling their kids to stand back and "give him room" (was moving back and forth at times due to wind dying off).

It's amazing what a few days does to your attitude.

Had a blast static flying for the tourists and better yet we all had fun.

Kudos for being on a positive note.

yep, flying for the tourists rather than the sodden redneck fringe spewing spraying angry spittle in your direction is nice.....

hope that helps the positive note side of things.

one of my favorite kite opportunities / fantasies (?!?) sometimes comes about when i see a curious dog approach my kite while i've got it grounded and i'm hanging about the anchor... then its a game of chicken, whether i launch before the dog pees on my kite...

best outcome: i get the timing just right and i freak the dog out so much it pees on itself while running away.

did it once.

must say i was inhumanly pleased at the result.

anyways, throwing one's kite like a wind ninja with road rage at a numbnut petrolhead must've been satisfying...*

until the karma kicks in....:(

cheers, csa, and thanks for the stories, hope i get to fly the oregon beaches with you sometime...

hope ya don't mind me sensa humour....

:Ange09:

* a nameless and most obscure previous thread....:ticking:

csa you need some big fixed bridle kites. That 7-9 stuff is a good day for me. I frequently decide between my 7m Blurr, 8.3 Reactor, and my next kite will be a 10.8 Reactor II. That lets me have fun down to about 3-4 mph. You gotta have the tools to play in what winds you are dealt. Your attitude is even better when you can do what you want with the wind.

10m Charger is next up for me. Then I was actually looking at something in the 10m fixed range. Seriously looking at either the Reactor II or a JOJO.
But with the winter winds coming think a 0.25m will do just fine :wee:

Couldn't wait to get our kites up at the beach but found too much wind. (for us anyway) 17mph on three trips out. It avg. around 13 -14 but when you see that 17 kick up every so often, I know what it will do to me.

So it was the hydra350 and the P3 that got the call. Fun enough tho.

Hardrock that 5m in 18mph winds lofted me about 6ft in the air and 30-40 ft down the beach in milliseconds.

CSA there is nothing better than hearing a little kids voice in the back round saying "mommy look at that" What a smile is makes for all! We had a really nice crowd one day at a DE beach right before the season started. Several families sat on the rocks and watched us fly.

Kudos for the good dealings with the travelers! Wish the wind was better for you!
