Other Power Kiters I never knew about???

dgkid78 - 8-8-2009 at 04:54 PM

So I been going to my spot for like 3yrs now, And I have never ever ever seen another power kiter at the field. Just some Rev flyers and the ocasional spider-man single line kite. Last Friday I saw a power kite outta the corner of my eye at the other field behind the Fort. And then Sadness.....LOL. I looked at the kite and it was one of them cheap Kitenese ebay kites. I was packing up and decided to walk to him and told him that the wind was much better up on the other side of the field.

And I kid you not........He says to me "Why don't you F$#@ OFF!!!!! you were hoggin the entire feild" :puzzled:

I was like "Oh No he Didn't" LOL

But I laughed and said I apologize but the feild is open to all kiters and it's big enough for many of us. I just adapt to where everyone is. If nobody is on the field i am gonna use it up.
He ignored me. and I told him "Well I am happy there is another power kiter here....Have a nice time"

With that Attitude he is gonna wreck it for me if he hurts someone. the feild he was at had a playground full of kids off to his left

NOW COMPLETELY DIFFERENT STORY HERE.............

Every now and then i check YouTube and see if anyone posted any videos of me Landboarding. Cause i always see people recording me and taking my pics.
And i come across this!!!!!

YET ANOTHER POWER KITER I HAVE NEVER SEEN
Flying A 2m Samuari .....What the hell? I never seen this guy and the video was from a couple weeks ago. I am so excited to see other power kiters and knowing maybe just maybe they saw me over the past 3yrs at some point and i am responsible? LOL :singing:

Ironic that you don't see anyone at your spot for 3 years and then someone shows up, you are all excited to share this wonderful sport with him, and it turns out he is ............ a douchebag.

Too bad he wasn't more friendly. I am sure you would have shared some of your gear, and taught him some stuff. Oh well.

Good job staying friendly though :wink2:

You think he's related to Mr Dillweed and Brainiac?

Gee, if if were me, I'd smile and pull out something like a 12m Ace or Blade and say, "Here, try THIS one and see how you like it...it's EASY and hardly pulls...in fact, I regularly use it in the parking lot, right over that by that concrete barrier over there..."

Hardrock - 9-8-2009 at 02:48 PM

Yea you gota hate that.

At least you kept your cool. Maybe he'll come back later in a better mood.

But still, there are some weird people out there.

dgkid78 - 9-8-2009 at 03:37 PM

Yeah maybe he was just having bad day. Too bad. I get along with the 6 or so Rev flyers no problem. Haha I will tell the rev flyer Mike about him. He's a friggin tall giraffe . Maybe talk some kite etiquete to him..

On a bad note I got a flat on my board. I knew this cause when I landed from a jump today. I landed at a full stop and I got yanked so hard both my sneakers came off still attachted to board.

Never tie your laces too tight is what I say when you can't get free lol

DAKITEZ - 9-8-2009 at 03:40 PM

maybe he was upset because he realized the cheap kite he bought was junk :puzzled:

Got to Walmart and get a bike tube patch kit. I got one about 2 years ago and used a stick on patch from a kit and it has held up great.

Sorry to hear of your encounter. :shocked2::puzzled::wow::no:

dgkid78 - 10-8-2009 at 11:59 AM

I did go to wally world and got the Bell patch kit. Got home and it was just stickers and that metal scrape tool. Lol. That crap didn't hold. I went through all the stickers. I am gonna get a real kit at Dicks sporting goods today

trancein1 - 16-8-2009 at 11:39 AM

I have used the stick on tube repairs for my bikes for the last 10 years and I don't think one has ever failed. It is like translucent rubber material with super sticky stuff for adhesion. Find the hole, rough it up, stick it on and put it all back together. Get better stuff at bike shops probably, but the kits still aren't expensive, maybe a couple bucks.

What was the name of it??? I am not a kite enthusiast but living at the beach I see a lot of kite surfing. Last week I saw a fella' with a kite like you guys/gals use and he was seated in some sort of contraption with a fan behind him propelling him forward, left, right, etc. This motor was NOT keeping the kite up, the wind was. He was about 50 feet up off the ground, sustained. I haven't seen this before but I want one and don't know what it's called or where to find one. Can anyone help me?

Thank You in advance,
Stacy

kiteNH - 17-8-2009 at 08:14 AM

I think you saw powered paragliding or paramotoring. Those weren't kites, they were paragliders. Different sport.

Stacy - 17-8-2009 at 08:23 AM

YES! I had no clue that was so different. I love the idea of power kiting, specifically with the buggies and the skate board-looking thing. I'm afraid of it though. Sometimes the winds get so strong here and not knowing anyone who kite surfs or having space to use a buggy/board is a bummer. Any suggestions should this become a new interest to me?

sunset-Jim - 17-8-2009 at 08:29 AM

I'm sure that where you live at that there are friendly enough locals to teach ya the sport. Like anything else, if trained properly it can be pretty safe.

Stacy - 17-8-2009 at 08:41 AM

How do you qualify someone as reputable and capable of setting me up with the equipment that's right for me? What questions do I ask and what should I look out for?

sunset-Jim - 17-8-2009 at 08:54 AM

Depends on if you are asking about powerkiting, kite buggying or the paragliding.

For the powerkiting you can find qualified people right here on the forum. For paragliding, the instructors have to certified.

Whereabouts are ya?

dgkid78 - 17-8-2009 at 12:34 PM

Funny you say that I saw a decaying seal over at the beach . Decapitated! How does that happen? I felt like I should of called authorities or something. Then a friend said maybe was a boat? Felt bad though

Best guess would be boat prop. I would expect that decapitation would occur before the shear bolt on the prop gave out. Yes... very sad. Might be worth reporting, as at some point it might be a health concern for younger beach goers that might not think to steer clear.

Sam
