5m Montana III - thoughts?

B-Roc - 21-8-2009 at 09:52 AM

Anyone ever flown the 5m Montana III and if so, what are your thoughts on it (is it something you'd be fighting with as the winds push 25 - 30mph or is it OK with the gusts?

Not sure about the 5M, but you might want to U2U dgkid78. He's runs with a HQ Montana 2 7m & a HQ Montana 3 9.5m.

We have talked before once about this topic. And B-roc the offer still stands if you ever wanna demo the 7m :singing: your about same weight as me I think and the 7m isn't small enough for us in this those winds. I couldn't hold her down in 20mph winds. Now the montana 3 9.5 m. Easily till 24mph . Of course with knots all closest to bar and trim pulled completly

I've flown the 9.5 MIV up to about 18-20 mph and it was smooth as silk with a steady coastal wind. I don't doubt there was another 5mph available if not more. I didn't even have the strap half way trimmed. Surprising that power handling would change that much between models.

Here I was thinking I'm just going to buy a 6m Access and came across a deal on a 5m Montana III. Quite the difference in terms of kite style but at about 2/3 the cost I'm wondering if I want a higher A/R high wind depowerable or not.

-Dgkid, I would love to come fly with you and try your 7m but my schedule is way too erratic and the kids have soccer starting in a few weeks so regretably I still can't take advantage of your offer. I know I'm going to buy a 5 or 6m something but the longer I wait, the more things I bring into the equation.

So the MIII is good in the gusts or is it punchy?

So many kites, so little money.

Extrapolating from my experience with the larger Montanas, I think the 5m would be great at munching gusts and an excellent choice up against the Access.

Pull the trigger on the Montana. Sweet kite

Nahhhh I would Ship it to you and you could try it out....For Me the Montana 3 isn't really punchy in higher winds. but you do feel that gust and have enough time to depower. I didn't really feel that with the Montana 2. that was punchy IMO. I have yet to have my Montana 3 Drop from the sky because of a gust. But then again a gust for me on the coast is completly different. It's more like 15mph gusting to 22mph. or 12mph gusting to 20mph. It handles that but the Montana 2 would just drop from the sky.......GO FOR THE MONTANA 3 5M. I think i would so get it. knowing that i love mine. :wee:
