SkyCountry Reflex 5 - VIDEO ADDED

Fastrak - 29-8-2009 at 07:13 AM

Got a new SkyCountry Reflex 5m kite.

VIDEO LINK:

Here is the bag. The helmet is included for scale. The material is a heavy duty thick cloth.

The zipper opens an expansion that allows the kite to go in / out of the bag easier - nice touch

The lines / handles come in their own bag.

Once again, we see the neat "Reflex Winding" of the lines

The handles themselves are curved PVC with a very comfortable foam cover

The kite itself is stunning. (Yes I did pick this color scheme). The material is lighter and different from ripstop. It has a sturdy and slick surface. The colors are VERY bold. The construction of the kite is flawless which should not be surprising since it is made by a paraglider company.

The front side of the kite is plain white. Bridles are all sewn.

The vents are all covered by an ultra fine mesh (Think permanent coffee filter).

A really unique feature is the AOA adjustment. The bridle lines are divided by top row and 2nd row. The two rows are connected by a knotted link line. By changing the connection point of your flying lines you have a huge range of adjustability in a very low wear setup. This setup for AOA is the best I have seen.

The kite flies almost like a stunt kite and is incredibly responsive.

Nice review so far !

Please DO report more on this kite. We all LOVE them in Vancouver but are biased because this is the home of the original ones + Canadian Connection.

The 3 things you pointed out that impress me are the unique material on the kite + vents and the Reverse flight ( stunt ) .

It is a good entry level race kite as well !!!!!!!!

Those colours are WILD !!!!! I love that you can choose colours + how they play through the white under belly in the sun.

yes that looks like an amazing eye catching color scheme. When i tried the Reflex 4m that Scudley passed around. I thought that mesh over the vents was really cool. LOL At first i thought i had to pre-inflate like a PL.

Maven454 - 29-8-2009 at 08:53 AM

Realizing that the mesh should keep almost everything out, does it have dirt-outs?

:thumbup::thumbup:

ditto on the colors, they are fantastic, must put a smile on your face to tool that about the sky...

the 10m must be one sweet low wind weapon...

follow up!!!

video!!!

thanks for all the photos....

Bladerunner - 29-8-2009 at 05:40 PM

YES,

The 10 m is possibly my favorite size ! The material is lighter and stiffer so it is a real early flying kite. Great low wind engine.
I have never looked for dirt outs?

Fastrak - 29-8-2009 at 06:01 PM

There are no dirt outs on the kite. The mesh is so fine I dont know that anything could get in there. Kinda funny / gross that I have found a stow-away grasshopper or two in my crossfires.

Nice Video. :bigok: Wind Speed?

Scudley - 30-8-2009 at 01:40 AM

I have said for ages that these are awesome kites. Fly like nothing else. The control is amazing. Kite speed and power are great. For power in the same class with Jojo, Yakuzas, Vampir Race Pro, but way friendlier to fly. You can put these in the hands of a noob and they have no problem. I have even let beginners fly Phlo, my 10m, in light wind. Really glad to see a few others starting to appreciate them.
If my girl friend had been able to buggy with anything else, there would only be one in North America and it would be sitting at the bottom DirtSlide's kite bag. (We had all poo-pooed it as the Lada kite before Dusty flew it.) How does you GF like it? The five meter set on the lowest angle of attach is Dusty's favorite kite.
Fastrak, wait until you try the AlaSCa. It is going to blow your mind: a depower that flies like it is on handles.

You will have to supply the lines and labour. You know that you are always welcome to try any of my kites. I keep offering but you always say no.
I am hoping to make to SOBB but, with no work its pretty tight. You going to be there for the racing or just to pimp?

Scudley,

Let me know if you need any camping gear. I'm staying in a Kabin so don't need most of mine. You can camp for free in buggy town. I hope you can swing it !

Sorry for the hijack. We need some wind so we can talk this all out in the park. :ticking:

I never go to an event with extra stock ... its my vacation time, so its my time to enjoy and hang out with friends I only get to see once or twice a year. Fly now / Sale later.

Im pretty flexiable right now on how long i can stay, if there is racing ill be there longer. I wanna hit up the Gorge, however my Spleene Rip / Spleene Q Kite and Waiman Gear have yet to arrive.

Thanks Aaron so much for your review and the video!

To canucks who are heading to the SOBB:
my car was stolen 2 nights ago, and I don't think it will be found till the event (if ever). So I can't drive. I am looking for driving options. I am coming with my 12 yo son Pasha and couple of boards (and kites of course). darn. forgot and a paraglider of course - can't miss Oregon famous dunes ;)
and would appreciate a ride. Maybe at least one way.
I was planning to go Friday (4th) night or Saturday morning and come back either Monday evening or Tuesday.

Bladerunner - 31-8-2009 at 09:58 AM

THAT SUCKS,

Are you sure your insurance won't supply a rental ?

I leave Friday 5:30 a.m. and return Tuesday. I would have room for one passenger ( barely ) but no extra room for gear ? How about getting together with Scudley. He has a car and the desire to go ?

Scudley - 11-9-2009 at 05:50 AM

Fastrak, tell us about the 8m. I know all about the five and the ten. If I have a 7m and 10m, do I need the 8?

Fastrak - 12-9-2009 at 01:05 PM

Scudley,

The 8 is actually my favorite kite. I will post a video review once my film crew gets back in town. The 8 is really fast for its size and a friggin blast.
