Landboard "sand chains"

Houston AirHead - 30-8-2009 at 10:03 PM

You know how when you go off into the loose sand you loose complete traction.

any ideas as to over come this loss of traction. I was thinking. maybe chains....

some sort of spikes you can screw into the rubber tread

i think chains would work really well in the fluffy stuff

the reason i bring this topic up is because when we get a east or west wind down at the texas coast line its a side shore wind so i can only really fly in the deep sand part of the beach.

Landing on spikes ouch.

Also I have tried chains with my truck in the sand didn't do much good, however airing down helps allot.

EDIT

Just remembered a post I made a few months ago on sort of the same topic Board in blow sand... ?

you need surface area, instead of traction. Now, snap on snowkat treads might float you above a little.

Bob may have touched on something.

Make a set of doom wheels with snowkat tracks. You would be first with them....or are you....

what you need is a buggy! boarding is no fun on soft sand....

maybe if you got three wheels per truck that would be enough area??? please let me know if you find a solution

i think Kamikuza shot me a link to some weird-a$$ tires... really fat/wide sand tires... I'll see if i can dig it up... they were pricey tho, and the page was in japanese lol

furbowski - 1-9-2009 at 06:44 AM

that japanese rig is in the earlier link above...

the guy ended up using granny scooter tires, both with and without trucks (which actually worked! for him anyways).

Now that is smooth how he rides the dune, then flies to the beach, rides in the water and then rides back up to the dune. It says it is a FS speed 17m. Looks bigger than that. And that bar system looks different, like he goes into paraglider mode or something.

yeah, the truckless (axles bolted directly to the deck) ATB is a BIG step up from that!

(not personal exp. sorry to say) the guy said he could hold an edge fine, just had to do all his steering by sliding about. big fat tires made that work just fine, apparently.

sounds like fun!

and yes, that is a very short rig, but at least twice as long as a PG setup, what's going on with that?
