i spoke to the co-ordinator and they said it will be a blast...

I will be there at least one day - mostly a sport kite event, tho' HQ might be there demoing some power kites.

It would be fun just to bring the buggy for a little show and tell. Setup the Coleman 14 awning and watch kites... what do you think?

It's held on the Ocean City Sunfest Weekend. While the beach is not as packed as the summer months, you can expect a bit of a crowd. If it's warm, they be a good number of people at the beach and water.

Maybe you can find a designated area somewhere to bigfoot buggy on the soft sand, away from drifting tourists.

HQ depowers were being demoed there last Spring. But it was a -small- area and surrounding people had to be asked to back off each time (or you had to wait til they moved).

As a MD native, I thought OC had the biggest beaches...until I went to Wildwood! :o

well i just got back from this kite fest. it was o.k. i guess. No serious powerkiters other than two or three guys in the water. a lot of Rev's though. i got to fly a few and i think i want one. the control of those things is amazing. is it just me or do "some" rev fliers have an elitest attitude? :puzzled:anyways.... i also became one of them.... you know the person who sees something he's never seen before and asks the ever stupid "what's that?" only to recieve the simple answer... "a kite" duh!:embarrased: this guy was flying an omni-direction quad. 360 degree kite, it looked like a little orb. man was this thing coool. i got to fly this also. it almost feels like it's attached to sticks rather than lines. lateral movement, hovers crazy spins... supposedly the plans are on the web. all in all was cool, don't know if i would drive five hours to do it again though... also the wind kicked up like crazy on Fri and i totally exploded my new 1.4 beamerIV. so that really sucked:mad::mad:

Wind was insane on the Fri. I went - too much for my few, non-power kites.

I did get out my 12m Phantom and was getting slinged all over. But I was still amazed how much control I still had with it (I was using my Ranger bar with some extreme depower throw). They are right when they say Arcs are best at their top end wind range.

Yeah, some of the Rev fliers that I've encountered seem to believe that they (and/or their kite) is the be all end all. Not that Revs aren't cool...

i didn't listen to the voice that said "hey dumba@@ dont you see everyone else bringing their kites down...?"
the winds kicked up something awful not even sure of the speeds, but the 1.4 was giving my 210 a drag here and there.
i can't actually remember bringing down hard or anything i just noticed that it would no longer hit zenith just get up off the ground a few feet. when it crossed the sun i could see the cross members flappin around inside, then upon closer inspection i noticed the center four cells were shredded from top to bottom:mad::mad::mad:

Someone did a review on a beamer a while back and i posted on this problem. When cutting ripstop(kite fabric) it should always be hot cut (cut with a very hot blade) this way the fabric is sealed. The ribs of the beamer have breather holes (i think 2 in each rib) it looks like these holes were not hot cut and prone to ripping out from there.
The beamer 2M i repaired had been crashed hard a few times by a newb which caused it to rip. I could see this happening in high wind, in a gust where lines slacked for a second, then yanked causing extra stress on the kite.
