PL XR Backrest

So I want to get a back rest on my PL, like next week. Figured I goto CRM in seaside and see how much they'd fab one for.

The minimalist solution is to just weld a bent tube to the frame. Seems like a very non-custom questionable move.

Next up the ladder is a tube with key clamps to attach to the side rails. Should be pretty cheap and sturdy enough and would also allow you to change the position of the rest on the rails. Not that there's really any room to do that on the XR :)

towards the bottom

I've also seen an approach where the backrest tube has a tab welded onto it and the rail has a bracket. Then the tube just bolts to the bracket. There's a PTW design with a bracket with multiple hole that lets you move the rail back and fourth a bit...

and then I saw another design that has two bolts. One to anchor the backrest tube and the other to change the angle of the back rest. Can't remember where I saw this....

I would think for ax XR a key clamp or just a slightly larger diameter tube with a set screw would be sufficient... and for 220# :) The only real down side I can see would be that the angle can't be changed w/o rebending. Any thoughts?

If you can get me some measurements (tube dia., width to the center of the rail, and desired height,) I could try to get you something built by this weekend. Always looking for an excuse to build/weld something. I was meaning to ask VWBrian about the same thing.

This should help with the bending if you use the kee klamps. For my comfort, I would add some recliining tilt to it after you were done with the 2 dimensional bending.
