Hey whats up guys im obviously new to this forum. Im going to start land kiting and i need some advice. I kite board at sherman island in rio vista
and i live on montgomery avenue in davis ca (down the street from the sod farm off of mace) my dad told me you guys kited out there or around the
area. Im just really curious what the best foil kite would be for land kiting in norcal on a mountain board (I weigh 145-150) and also I want to use a
control bar that can attach to my cabrihna harness depower would be nice. Also what is the best season for kiting in norcal im hoping that its this
fall or winter! If you have any other advice or tips it would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks, BenSCREWYFITS - 9-9-2009 at 05:15 PM
Hey bkkowta,
Nice to meet you!!! there a few up there in the Davis/Sac area Dagon, AD72, Sthrasher, artlessing... and a lil south there are a few more DAKITEZ,
SCREWYFITS (me)...
we go to a sod farm in Lodi and DAKITEZ and I have a great array of kites that you'd be welcome to try before you buy, get DAKITEZ or me your contact
info and we'll try and invite you before we go... I'm sure the Davis/Sac crew would be willing to share there kites also, but I'll leave that up to
them to offer...
Sounds like you have a lil depower experience, I've been using a Naish Helix 9m and been loving it (in a buggy though) DAKITEZ loves the HQ Apex II's
and is a fantastic beginner depower, otherwise the Peter Lynn twinskin's are a great kite for a lil more experienced kiters...
DAKITEZ is a great dealer and can at least point you in the right direction check him out...bkkowta - 9-9-2009 at 06:11 PM
Cool Thanks I pmed you my contact info
also what meter size do you think would be for a 145 pound guy like myselfs so called one kite quiverflexiblade - 9-9-2009 at 06:47 PM
bkkowta, pleased to meet another local - I live a little way up the hill in Auburn, but I get down to your neck of the woods as often as I can (when
the weather permits). I believe AD72 lives pretty close to you, right around the corner almost. What screwwy said is very true about Dakitez, he has
the most kites of anyone that I know and is an excellent teacher with a nice playground down in Lodi. As far as the sod farms up here, they vary from
month to month. Sometimes they're great sometimes they're trashed. right now they are somewhere between those 2 extremes. As far as a 1 kite
quiver, I am very partial to the Peter Lynn twin-skins, AKA Arcs. If we ever get any wind around here I would love to show the ropes of these amazing
kites, problem is the season right now sucks - but hopefully that will change. Anyhow throw me a u2u and I'll give you my data and next time I'm
heading down I'll give you a holler.
By the way what size kite(s) do you have experience on?bkkowta - 9-9-2009 at 10:56 PM
u2uing you flexibladeSCREWYFITS - 10-9-2009 at 07:06 AM
Jump at this opportunity, as well the others... Flexiblade is very experienced with these "twin skins/arc's" and they take some finesse to launch and
land these, and he's perfect to learn from... and a great guy ta boot...
Well, I better not go too far giving him props, his head will swell and not fit the avatar, LOL...
All in all, I think these kites are what's going to fit your interest the best, and no better person to learn from, plus he can size you up weight and
skill and recommend a perfect size for you!!! I think the absorb the gusts well also, a nice feature for them Davis winds, from what I hear...
AD72 is right there and another great gut that could give quality help, plus needs a fly partner...
You'll still want to get your hands on some fixed bridal foils if possible so you can get a feel for whats out there...AD72 - 10-9-2009 at 04:10 PM
Aye, I live in South Davis right by you but am in Aberdeen Scotland till' the 25th. You can try out my Apex II when I return.
Welcome new pledge to the NorCal fraternity. We are all nice until hell week when the hazing starts.bkkowta - 10-9-2009 at 05:22 PM
Awesome AD72 what street do you live on and where do you like to kite?kandrey89 - 10-9-2009 at 05:46 PM
Bay area weather should be 75-98 F from this Friday - Sunday, with cooling off on Sunday - Tuesday.
I think I'll get out with my NPW9b 3.1m kite, fix the line length so the brakes don't flap and don't pull the kite in reverse. And I think I'll
bodyboard, last time I was in the water, there was so much wildlife around me I thought I was in the tank with fishes. :eekdrull:bkkowta - 12-9-2009 at 09:40 AM

good idea The winds are very gusty also right now.AD72 - 12-9-2009 at 01:14 PM
My wife said it has been crazy gusty in addition to the clouds. Have patience. It is best to wait it out and have a buddy with you. I can vouch for
that as Screwey put in the previous post.AD72 - 12-9-2009 at 01:45 PM
I am I great debt to Dakitez for helping me out after a bad OBE (pilot error). Get accustomed to using the quick release so that it is second nature.
There is no audience so you don't need to make any hero moves when you feel things start going sideways (out of comfort zone). All in good time.bkkowta - 12-9-2009 at 08:52 PM
Its all good i kited for about 4 hours at the delta this evening (Sherman Island) solid 30mph the whole time I was on a north 6m and landed my first
Double backroll so I got my thrill and stoke for the day!!!!! how about you guys any luck on land?flexiblade - 12-9-2009 at 11:05 PM
Not today - as mentioned earlier - far too gusty for my blood - I will be trying to get out to Lodi and the sod farms tomorrow, If anyones interested
give me a call - I'll call you tomorrow bkkowta to see if you want to go - we could meet up in Sac - it's on my way through to Lodi.kandrey89 - 12-9-2009 at 11:59 PM
I'm sorry, "Lodi" as in what? Where is it?DAKITEZ - 13-9-2009 at 08:24 AM
I always call or email the guy in charge at the field before I go to make sure its ok. I will try and contact him to make sure its ok today ... I want
to be sure its not too wet. We don't want to be sloshing around out there and mess up their grass.flexiblade - 13-9-2009 at 09:49 AM
Thanks for the heads up - but I don't think I'll be making it today - weather and wind changed up or should I say dropped off - not really worth the
70 mile drive for 10mph winds - so sorry for getting anyones hopes up.
