Was wondering if any kiteboarder will be meeting in the galveston beach area this friday, saturday or sunday. Or perhaps at Texas City?

texas city dike is great for beginner kitesurfers.... what is your current experience with kites?

I'm actually an experience kiter ( precision flying etc...) but a beginner to power kites. I have a little experience with snow boarding so this look like something I could really get addicted to. I already took the lesson from XLkites so am at the stage of trying to learn how to get up on the board and edge properly ( falling a lot right now). I've practice at texas city but always feel like I might be in someone's way. I was looking for an area where there are less people also. I noticed there were too many people BBQing and fishing the last time I went there. Hate to loose control of my kite and hurt someone.

when your at the dike make sure you look out for broken glass and oyster shells. I sliced my middle toe on my right foot almost clean off on the beach right by the grass back in may. it took 2 months for me to be able to walk right again after i got it fixed. the water doesnt get too rough there either which is good and its only waste deep thousands of yards out. i do want to go back but the water there isnt the cleanest so i want to wait until the water temp cools off even more to let the bacteria die some more.

lookin foward to riding there again.
i forgot to mention i was riding a skimboard strapless so i was walking around barefooted for a while when it happened

rocks

van - 2-10-2009 at 01:50 PM

I'm worry more about the rocks as you walk down to the water from the grassy area.. when I was taking lessons there, I keep thinking if a gust comes a long and I get lifted, I'm gonna land right on those rocks.

btw.. I'm from Richmond/Sugarland area. My home town is Rockport, TX which btw was a steady 19mph all day today!!!

Houston AirHead - 2-10-2009 at 01:53 PM

haha sick i live like 15 minues from you in needville. yeah friends of mine old me it was blowin to 25mph today at surfside

van - 2-10-2009 at 02:04 PM

Needville?? I drove through there a few times and all I saw was pastures. Didn't think people live there. We gotta meet up in Rosengberg for a drink sometimes. Know of any fields in this area that you can fly? I'm still trying to get used to the difference between a stunt kite and a power kite.

Houston AirHead - 2-10-2009 at 11:03 PM

I dont really drink much, but your welcome to meet us down at surfside next time the winds are cookin!
I always post here before I head out that way.
Look for the cars with the "Bad to the bone" kiteboarding Surfside, Texas stickers on the back window.
i think i need to change my avatar now. lmao

Where about at surfside? I'm not familiar with which areas kiters usually meet up at.

Houston AirHead - 3-10-2009 at 10:06 AM

the first free enterence past the pay station when you take highway 36 south to freeport

van - 3-10-2009 at 05:29 PM

cool.. reason I ask is because I've never actually been to the surfside beach.. only been to the freeport harbour area when I used to take my dad to the fishing boats for his month long trips.
