One Sky One World Event 10/11/09

Here is a good reason to get out and fly this coming Sunday ...

One Sky ~ One World
Sunday October 11th 2009

The International "One Sky One World" organization was founded in the USA by Jane Parker-Ambrose.
Below is a short statement (taken from her site) providing a basic insight into what OSOW is about.

"It is clear that life on the planet earth is at a crossroads. The choice to turn from the path of self destruction from war, and environmental abuse; to love of self, others, and the world is before us. Increasing global awareness will lead to a widespread belief that anything other than peace and mutual concern is insensible, and will move us away from planetary cataclysm toward a better future. One Sky One World festivals will be held annually around the world to promote protection of the planet, peace, friendship and understanding between all people. Beyond this, One Sky One World does not endorse any ideology or political agenda."

"The purpose of One Sky One World, is simply to promote the concept of global harmony and understanding between all peoples of the world through an expression of the universality of kites and the wind. Through sharing the wind, our world wide connection with other flyers and all of nature is symbolically realized. The great air ocean favors no dividing boundaries, ideologies, and human conflict. It is much more the prerequisite for our existence, a catalyst in the chemistry of life, supplying our every breath. The International Kite Fly is an attempt to let the wind lift our kites and our awareness so as to more fully understand the necessity for peace."

That's awsome, In my town a local church organization is sponsoring a kite festival on both Sat. and Sun. I've been asked to attend and give a demo on buggying on the horse track at a local horse farm. NYKE (New York Kite Enthusiasts) will be in attendance, they always have a great event.

I buggied today as part of the OSOW event held as a fundraiser for Beaver Camp, at Maple Ridge Farm in Lowville, NY. The event was organized by NYKE (New York Kite Enthusiasts) and attended by kiters from across NY state and Connecticut, maybe other States as well. The event was covered by 2 TV news stations and a newspaper as well. I don't think I made the TV, but was interviewed and photographed by the paper, if it makes the news, I'll try to post it.

Bob

Great press; glad to see you wearing protective gear in the photo. I hope you got a chance to meet with the NYKE guys, and also with Don and Kim.

buggydanny, unfortunately,to protect the public, (from my formidable skills, haha) I set up far away from most of the action, on the back turn of the horse track, where the wind allowed a sweeping reach around the bend. So I didn't get to speak with Don or Kim, but did get to speak with some of the NYKE folks briefly, and Dave from East Haddam, CT, who was there with a contingent from the Connectikiters, and turns out that he knows Paul from Boston (doublespeed360)! Dave was interested in building his own buggy, and was looking mine over to get ideas. I know some of the people there were wowed by the idea of kitebuggying, especially 'cuz I was often washing off speed in the gusty, blustery by doing swerving fishtails on the track, using my 2M Beamer for an engine! (giggling like a little kid all the while,
