The kid being in the balloon was just an assumption, they don't know for sure if he was on it.

It just leaked out some helium and slowly settled down to the ground in a soft plowed field.

Kid's family was on "Wife Swap" Reality TV show - maybe a stunt? Doesn't seem to be a way to be in the "gondola" and wasn't said to be breached- kid either was holding on to a rope, or is hiding. Maybe kid missed all the TV attention.

That's awful if the boy was really on it and fell to his death.

If he is hiding its awful that they beat the hell out of the balloon when it landed.

Mountain Time Today:

The foil balloon, in the shape of a flying saucer, lifted into the air from Fort Collins at about 11:30 a.m. Thursday, after the balloon became untethered from the boy's home.

The balloon landed about 2 miles northeast of Prospect Reservoir at 1:35 p.m., in Weld County, but the boy was not inside. That's about 50 miles from where the balloon lifted off.

Altitude maxed out at 15,000 feet.

It now makes me wonder if any aeronautics expert spoke up about a balloon that size being able to haul a 6 yr old so high and fast. :rolleyes:

Weather balloon + 6yr Old = Not going anywhere. I saw this video as it was coming in and everyone was freaking out, and you could tell there was nothing in it.

Yeah, I can imagine a pipe-smoking, aeronautics academic chuckling at the live TV. If they could guesstimate the relative size and inflation of the thang, I think they'd know there was no boy aboard.

Funny how one media yapper was going on about how the balloon was earlier wobbling around like someone was in it and then stabilized later - like the kid fell out.

I thought the kid was actually in there with cash, a gun, a passport, a disguise...and Al Collins along for the ride!
