Power Kite Forum

Using ebay to post deceptive information (was: Pi$$ed Off - WTF)

ripsessionkites - 17-10-2009 at 10:49 AM

Is bad mouthing your competition the new norm in the kite industry and telling lies to make sales??? How many companies feel threated by my little distributing / retail company???

good friend and shop team rider sent me this today. What a way wreck a day with BS.

http://cgi.ebay.com/7M-Montana-4-Parafoil-Buggy-Snow-Tractio...

The Highlighted BLUE company name changes to whatever is in your area, and Ripsession Kiteboarding came up same with Doomwheels etc etc.

Either way, I dont sell the Montana from HQ, its only the Hydra and the Neo. so there is some BS going on.
If anyone is unsatisfied with their purchase from us, ill refund your money and consider. Make sure you have your proof of purchase.

What the hell he's selling a XR Buggy at 2x the price???

when you click on the PKC links you get this:

wtf, PKC has all the honest and coolest SOBs in the industry *said with love*. ebay should be under investigation.

blah blah blah, im done venting. time to sue.

how do we shut this D'uckers down. sorry i have kids so its my new word.

macboy - 17-10-2009 at 11:07 AM

WTF indeed! It came up as "Doomwheels" for me. I think eBay is your first route to stop that a$$hat. They should shut that down immediately.

Unbelievable. Remember the days when Coke wasn't allowed to say they were better than Pepsi? What a world.

ripsessionkites - 17-10-2009 at 11:16 AM

i see its taking over at: http://www.powerkiteforum.com/viewthread.php?tid=11192

AD72 - 17-10-2009 at 11:28 AM

The item can be reported as a Listing Policy Violation on EBay. The link is on the right hand side of the listing.

lad - 17-10-2009 at 01:54 PM

We need to come together and shut down this psycho's scam operation for good! He is a worthless, lying POS and should be thrown off of eBay ASAP. He also needs to answer for stealing copywritten photos and copy from the Big Boys (HQ, PL, etc.)

First, capture and preserve his auction page with the location changing coding. Then notify eBay - but not before the slandered businesses pool together and get a good lawyer to go after this guy.

Heck, I (and I'm sure others) would even chip in to finally shut this guy's mouth. Maybe you guys can hold a kite gear raffle to cover legal fees. I will definitely buy some tix - make it for a used, but coveted 15m Syn or some other nice item!

Don't waste anymore time or energy with this punk...Do whatever it takes....BUT DO IT NOW!!!!

Maven454 - 17-10-2009 at 02:09 PM

I've got to agree with lad. This guy is making the power kiting community look bad. And given the tight knit nature of the community, I'd be unable to believe it if we weren't all willing to help deal with the issue.

Don't lose any sleep ( at work ) about it tonight! ;-)

pbc - 17-10-2009 at 07:20 PM

I reported all 3 listing mentioned here. They're slanderous of all the dealers who post here. As far as I can tell the dealers who post here are a good bunch of folks.

EXACTLY what I have been thinking.

This nob knows so little about good business and repeat customers that he just can't figure out how such a group of " GOOD GUYS " can possibley exist.

He doesn't see that if you ARE a good guy even negetive attention such as his ends up to your benifit.

Maybe instead of a good sellers list we need a " worthy of Jonesband's list " of dealers and make it easier for him to constantly switch up his advertisements to your sites ! :wee:

BeamerBob - 18-10-2009 at 10:02 AM

I'll just say I'm HONORED to consider myself friends with the Tang/Charlotte/Jim/Jonesband list.

JAE - 18-10-2009 at 10:23 AM

it sounds like the guy is from another country, cant possibly be from the US, his words would be, not so overseas:lol:
must be why he sells cheep copy's:alien:

kiteNH - 18-10-2009 at 12:19 PM

This guy is a real joker. I think that the buy it now price of $1500 for a 7m Montana is the kicker. This guy sells a whole bunch of other stuff like camera's and ink, etc and my guess is everything he's got is counterfeit.

The sick thing is that he's got great feedback including quite a bit of his knock-off kite gear. I don't see any actual HQ or Flexifoil product that he's sold though. I bet he doesn't even have the stuff he's listing.

Bladerunner - 18-10-2009 at 01:08 PM

Newest twist.

He dropped his slander sale.

Now he is trying to claim kiteskating.com is all wrapped up in this.

WELDNGOD - 18-10-2009 at 03:45 PM

paranoid schizo maybe? Everyone is out to get him? It's our fault he is failing at the "AMERICAN DREAM" he longed for. Now he is left with the brutal reality that there are not enough stupid people to feed him, or most of the stupid people are smarter than him. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Now thats' funny

ripsessionkites - 18-10-2009 at 03:49 PM

this really sucks because if you go to the buyers listing ... he's actually sold a few kites. they all have been pleased, and happy too. they could be make believe but thats still shows sales.

talking with the local guys here, its time to sue for "loss of business" from fine dealers on pkf

I'm not 100% sure of it all but I believe Mr. Childs ( or someone ) supports this website out of the wish to " give back to the community " . That this site makes him nothing and so he has nothing to gain or lose.

This is what has Jonesband1998 spinning. He can't comprehend that someone would do something without profit as the motive.

flexiblade - 18-10-2009 at 08:43 PM

That would be stooping to his level - I looked up the same info as the phantom - unless your willing to pay, that is all the information that is out there - and most likely that is all made up - so if you do call, send an email, or send a letter to any of that info it will most likely go to the wrong person. This is the problem with folks like this - they hide behind walls of lies and trying to discern what is the truth can be tricky. For the time being I say we keep on hammering him on ebay until he breaks - by the look of it he doesn't do all that much business with his kite sales - this will just sour the milk for him ripping off people and companies. And the more he badmouths reputable dealers and businesses the more ammunition we will have to complain to ebay about.

Oh, and obviously the person doesn't understand what the purpose of this forum really is. They think that the link is hurting the integrity of the website:

"Your forum is based on people trusting the postings as unbiased but unfortunately the postings placed on them are artificial and inserted there by members with their own agendas to push their product. Your sites and forum contains links to numerous brands and other sites which sell these brands. It is the purpose of of your forum to support your sponsors and the members place postings accordingly. Hundreds of people are seeing our link everyday and it does not take much for them to lose trust in your forum and the brands that your postings seem to gamourize so well. If you want to continue to have buyers trust your site, you can do your part and remove the postings slandering our product. It is obvious by the posting."

WELDNGOD - 20-10-2009 at 02:33 PM

Q. How many people here make and sell a product? not counting NPW goddess(she make the npws and covers ,right?)
As far as I know everybody else are distributers of other companies products.
I don't think this person gets the whole freedom of speech thing( comes from thousands of yrs of iron handed rule).
Or they are PARANOID AND DELUSIONAL either way they just don't get it. Instead of the FBI, maybe they should hire a lawyer and sue our sorry a$$e$ for 100% of what the forum took in from ads and our dear sponsers(what will we ever do without them?)

Never heard of the guy. Apparently, he didn't like comments made here about some of his products: http://www.powerkiteforum.com/viewthread.php?tid=10841

As I don't sell any power kite-related products it's a real mystery why he feels the need to bad mouth doomwheels.com or kiteskating.com - both free resource pages for kiteskaters.

PKF is a place for folks to freely post opinions about kite products. If he feels that some of those comments are liable, he should follow the legal path to resolving it rather than starting a trash campaign. I will gladly respond to any court order presented to me.

The story gets better: he now claims he bought the kite from Coastal Wind Sports and Ripsession KiteBoarding, see http://cgi.ebay.ca/7M-Montana-4-Parafoil-Buggy-Snow-Traction...
How do you buy a single item from two stores? Especially when one store is on the SE coast of the US and the other is on the west coast of Canada.

stetson05 - 21-10-2009 at 09:39 PM

explanation is limited to a small number of letters. I wrote

He lists he bought it from 2 stores, 1 in Vancouver BC and in Georgia, USA. The links are fraud.

Can't believe ebay hasn't gotten the point.

ripsessionkites - 22-10-2009 at 05:01 AM

Angus, you liking the free advertising?
someone from AWOC and Dakitez should bad mouth this F%($*#.
"It was purchased brand new from CoastalWindSports and Ripsession Kiteboarding Shop and A Wind of Change and Dakitez. I tried to return the item but they refused to accept it."

ROFL.

On a serious note:
I've contacted my cousin the lawyer and she stated there isnt much I do can about the slander, i could prosue this in court but its going to be costly and probably not worth my time and the outcome might not be much. he can/will return as some other company/username/shop.
She did say one thing. That it probably hurts you that someone is telling lies about your company or product, but you only see one company doing it now, there are probably others trying to sell their products by bad mouthing yours. Sales is a greedy thing. However even if you do have bad advertising about your business its still good advertising since its truly up to the buyer/customer to make their decisions to by from you or not. Enjoy the freebie ads, laugh about it.

Ebay Customer Service POV. (i have a buddy that works for Ebay CSR right here in Burnaby, BC, Canada ... he's on my facebook.)
He says they cant do much. You can issue feedback which we have all done, however unless we buy the product and its not what is advertised we cant do much. He is stating its a Kite, and the description matches the HQ kite pictures so in their stupid eyes Ebay doesnt know any better. Ebay isnt going to buyer to prove what he is selling matches the description, nor does he have to. He is following the rules of ebay by only selling whats on the allowed list. Sure it overpriced but its a buyers market. for the counterfeit Revs, its actually up to Revolution to file a lawsuit. Lastly he rep on ebay isnt bad, there are happy customers so they will not do much.

oh well. damn you cousins in china for making a whole province of kite factories. IMO all brands should move their kite manufacturing into paraglider factories in Sri Lanka.

ebay seller jonesband1998 posting false information

pkf - 28-10-2009 at 01:17 AM

Add another store to his list. Apparently now he bought all his defective kites from IAB (which, by the way, doesn't sell power kites or buggies). I have contacted jonesband1998 and tried to reason with him, but it's clear that he's bound and determined to do anything - including posting false info on ebay listings - to vent his frustration over comments made about him on this forum.

I have no knowledge of this person nor do I have any opinion about him or his products. In fact he may be a really good source for printer ink (his staple product), but considering the false info he has been posting, I highly recommend using caution buying kites from this ebay seller. jonesband1998 is clearly using his ebay listings for the purpose of posting false information about this forum and other kite stores that he feels are supporting this forum. Let me be clear (again), the PKF is not and never has been supported or sponsored by any kite store or manufacturer.

Well, this too like so many other silly situations will fade away and the PKF will still be here providing kite fliers a place to support one another and expose deceptive ebay sellers .

Bravo and thank you PKF for your measured, professional and comprehensive response. At least now, anyone that Googles the seller or his products will get quite an eyeful of reading material. Gotta love the democratic web. Those that abuse their right to free speech will be smited.

... wonder if Revolution Kites knows he's/she's selling stuff using the Rev name as search bait?

Interesting, my friend could not even mention a famous guitar brand in reference to an historic copy guitar he was trying to sell on eBay. Revolution, and the other kite sport makers, only have to make their case to eBay.

I had an almost identical situation with an eBay vendor a while back. I bought what was supposed to be a complete design for an industrial mechanism. I happen to work as a software designer in this industry, so I know a bit about it. What I received from the vendor were cursory designs the vendor had found by searching Google and then burned onto a CD (not complete designs, basically the same as you'd find in a product brochure). The work was not his own and he didn't have permission to distribute it. He also included Microsoft Word files for his business cards and letterhead(?) on the CD. I wrote the vendor asking for a refund and he agreed. The materials were delivered over the internet so I agreed to delete it off my computer. Instead of giving me a refund he filed a "did not pay for item" complaint with eBay and demanded I pay a second time. Fortunately I paid with PayPal and that matter was dropped, but his "reverse complaint" tactic clouded the issue sufficiently that eBay was busy persuing me instead of him. I wrote a letter to eBay informing them that this vendor was illegally selling material that was copyright protected. I also told them that he had promised me a refund but instead demanded I pay a second time. They did nothing. I never got a refund and the vendor continues to sell his illegal materials on eBay to this day. But the story doesn't end there. This same fellow (he lives in BC, Canada BTW) also went on some public forums and slandered both me and my company, claiming he was a customer of ours (which he was not) and that our products were crap (which customers in 14 countries would argue to the contrary). He also stole artwork we commissioned and hold copyrights for and is using them on his website.

Yes, I'm hoping karma catches up with this guy also and bites him in the butt.

I reported this jonesband turkey to eBay (again).

Is He in Vancouver area ? :ticking:

bigkahuna - 28-10-2009 at 07:03 AM

@Bladerunner - Ha! I believe he is. To be honest, I hadn't given the case much thought since it all happened a year or so ago. The fact of life is that someone like this can pretty much operate at will, unimpeded, unless you're willing to plunk down the change for an attorney to stop him. We always have that as a future option. Maybe wait until he wins a lottery, and then nail him with a multi-million $$ defamation and copyright infringement lawsuit.

I took a screen shot of it saying "Coastalwindsports" and emailed it along with this thread to Coastal wind..

Bladerunner - 28-10-2009 at 04:25 PM

Thanks for clearing things up PKF.

I think Jonesband 1998 is going to go be even more frustrated when hes sees his smear campaign hasn't slowed down any of the good advice + gear that moves through this ( non commercial ) site. His whole campaign is little more than entertainment to us. Really the only one who looks stupid in this is Jonesy himself!

The people who shop at the shops that He has it in for do so because they KNOW they will get good treatment. The beginers who come here have found a good place and I think will listen to us even if we are on Joneband 1998's rotating smear !

I am put off enough by Ebay that I believe I will sell my stocks in the company.

Bladerunner - 29-10-2009 at 06:45 AM

Gee, and I thought the " Romano buggy " was going to win much races and honor in United States. Taking a big bite out of the buggy business .

Stay low Jellis. This guy is just dumb enough to not understand his true competition !
