static flying depower

mougl - 17-10-2009 at 11:27 AM

Ok so, I've decided to go depower before I buy the buggy for various reasons. Main reason being I'm holding off on the SUV till march/april and a bug just won't work in my car lol. I've heard some people say flying static on a depower is bad, some say its a blast. Opinions?

Many types of depower kites only show their best performance when moving. A bit like race kites.

In both cases they can still be fun to fly static. Just quirky.

I kind of enjoy flying my 15m Syn static. It is a fun safe kite to get lifted with. My 7m pulse flies nice static but getting a good jump out of it takes effort.

Im doing the same with my outlaw atm, i wanna learn everything about the kite now before i start using it as an engine for a board or anything.

I find it boring even when I was learning the curve. Everyone is different though

I guess ill have to try it to see :)

I keep dreaming of flying arcs (I really do) so I figured its time to start saving. Now the question becomes, as far as PL goes, which arc is beginner friendly? I plan on jumping, buggy, and eventually getting on the water. I guess I should also mention the wind here rarely blows harder than 18mph. As always, any advice is greatly appreciated :)

Gosh, that would lean you towards any of the venoms or synergies. You could branch out and include Scorpions an phantoms, which will work on water but they are reportedly better on land. Many people love the scorpions but many talk about wonky launches. You don't hear about that with the venoms or synergies.

I had a feeling the Syn would be mentioned :lol:

I'm thinking 15m but we shall see what kind of deals surface when I have the dough to pull the trigger on one

The thing that is very hard to get your head around ( or it was for me ) is that you can be flying what seems like a HOOOJ kite for the given wind. Once I get out of my skirt and get the big old beast in the sky it makes me wonder what scared me in the 1st place.

Don't be afraid to go big on size ! I haven't regreted having the 15 over a 12 once. An 8 would have been nice at times ?

I hope this advice may change with the Charger ?

I'm thinking 15ish maybe larger given the usual wind here, and I'm starting to think the charger is a myth LOL
