Technical question

power - 19-10-2009 at 09:25 AM

Usually I'm not bad with computers, but I'm stumped on this one. How do you get the kites you own and whatever else you want to say to show up under each post you make?

Maven454 - 19-10-2009 at 09:30 AM

Go into "User Control Panel", "Edit Profile", "Signature" block.

power - 19-10-2009 at 01:45 PM

Still doesn't work. I typed it into the signature section and clicked edit profile when I finished. Never showed up...

nevermind

Not meaning to hi-jack thread here but how to people get the pictures of what they own (small images of kites boards, harnesses etc.)to show up as their signature??

indigo_wolf - 24-10-2009 at 03:02 PM

Using WtG's signature as an example:

[ img]http://i25.tinypic.com/210n9tx.gif[ /img]

would give you this

(be sure there are no blanks after the "["'s. They are in the example above just so it would display as text in the first instance)

Hope that helps.

Sam

I nabbed all my pics off the internet, resized them then stuck them together in a line in Gimp ... I used .png format because it allows a transparent layer, as it were ...
For good form, you should keep the pic as small as possible to minimize bandwidth use ...

shaggs2riches - 24-10-2009 at 05:51 PM

yeah I am trying that out now, so far I have used Photobucket to resize, then dragged smaller images to desktop, dragged all images to ms word, arranged them into a banner like row, selected all, copied and pasted to ms paint, saved image, then I uploaded that image to photobucket. I now have saved the image BB Code link from photobucket. So far I have no luck getting the image to show up in my signature space.

lol never mind it works now.

I used tinypic.com to reduce the size of the images and then I just copied the tinypic url's into my signature and put the three different url's next to each other. How can I get the image smaller?

shaggs2riches - 24-10-2009 at 07:46 PM

Here's what I did which will make things easier:

1) find images of gear that you want in your signature. Drag these images from browser to desktop. (left click on image and hold while dragging to your desktop.) This will create an image file on your desktop.

2) Once images are on desktop, open up an account on PhotoBucket. Upload images to this account.

3) Once images are saved in PhotoBucket, you can edit the size pixel by pixel. ( used 40x40 for my images).

4) I then copied the image BB code to my signature space. (I had to make sure the [img] BB code was in lowercase)

5) Once all your BB codes are copied to your signature click "edit profile" to save. You should now have all your gear images saved as your signature.

Maven454 - 25-10-2009 at 05:00 AM

power, the more images that you make it load (more URLs) the more it'll slow down page load. This is the reason that people make a single banner and use that. Particularly since images are technically a no no in the signature anyway.

power - 28-10-2009 at 11:40 AM

You mean they're not allowed?

indigo_wolf - 28-10-2009 at 11:54 AM

Fair to say, it's probably more like a mutually agreed tolerance level. Optimize the sig pictures and it's probably cool. They're pictures of kites and gear, so a certain amount of eye-candy/kite porn provides a little bit of collateral entertainment and silently responds to the subliminal... "Hey, whatcha flyin."

Start filling your sig up with animated He-Man Masters of the Universe, Hello Kitty and even a bulk of the images from the 950 page Wichard catalog, and it's a safe bet that your kites aren't the only things you are going to have to be worried about getting spanked by :wow: ;)

On another forum, it has gotten out of hand and folks are posting entire galleries in their sig and forcing a scrolling region to appear below each of their posts. It thoroughly hamstrings the scroll mouse on my mouse

Should I take the pictures I have on now off?

ragden - 28-10-2009 at 12:20 PM

Just make them smaller if you can. :)

Maven454 - 28-10-2009 at 12:27 PM

And, as I said, making it a single image instead of multiple is probably a good idea as well. Fewer html get requests required by the browser. But as wolf says, as long as it isn't overwhelming, it's likely to be tolerated.

This is from the rules page. I was guilty of some infractions and didn't realize it.
