I'm looking for an inexpensive harness (possbily with a spreader bar) for getting into depower, and maybe a kite leash if someone has one for cheap.indigo_wolf - 24-10-2009 at 04:51 PM
Need to search through some of the old sales listings
Should also list what size harness you are looking for. The Ozone Access XC harness is one size fits most, but most others are sized.
Do you have a preference for seat, waist or hybrid harness?
First of all, my waist is about 29 inches, but I'm not sure what size that is in kite harnesses. I think I'm looking for a seat harness, but I'm not
sure what a hybrid harness is, so I may be interested in that too. Those links that you posted look like they have some nice harnesses, but I'm
looking for something a bit cheaper. Hope that gives you something to work with.indigo_wolf - 24-10-2009 at 05:19 PM
A hybrid harness goes around your waist, but has leg straps to distribute the load and keep the harness from riding up.
Two hybrid harnesses are:
Ozone Access XC Harness (available in D-Ring or Spreader Bar models)
Ocean Rodeo Session (I or II) Harness
29 inches is going to be a Small for most manufacturers (although you should double check when you narrow down your selections).
Did you have a price range in mind?

I was thinking 50 to 100. If it was going to be 100, it would have to come with a spreader bar. Anything in mind?indigo_wolf - 24-10-2009 at 05:36 PM
The price on a new Ozone Access XC harness is:
Center D-Ring Model: $100.00
Spreader-Bar Model: $125.00
Would be even cheaper used.
Will keep an eye out for you. If you get impatient and decide to spring for a new one, Angus usually has them in stock.

I have a small dakine Waist harness with a 6" spreader bar and pad...I used it for 2 seasons. I would though suggest a larger spreader bar and pad. I
thought it was the harness that hurt from bar diggin into ribs after 2 hrs of flying. but the bar was too small. Its still fine to use though while
you get the hang of it.
$60 bucks shipped
I am away right now at Disney World, so i wont be back till Nov 1st, if your interested or anyone for that matter. :wee:
PS: just a side note this harness has never been used in water. but IMO harness' can be gross. people sweat in them especially waist harness, usually
soaked after a session in sweat. so if you do get one used, be sure to soak in gentle soap, and let dry. :piggy:power - 24-10-2009 at 05:49 PM
Definitely considering this deal. Why did the small spreader bar hurt your ribs? Is there anything I can do to fix it without buying a new bar?indigo_wolf - 24-10-2009 at 05:55 PM
Smaller bar means the load is spread over a smaller area, so more pressure.

Pretty much any waist harness will hirt your ribs when your just learning. The kite tends to ne over your head alot and will pull your harness up into
your ribs. I rode a seat for a few years before i went to a waist. Even then it took a few sessions to figure out how to keep it down when it did try
to ride up. I might still switch back for snowkiting ill have to see.dgkid78 - 24-10-2009 at 05:58 PM
well the bar is smaller so after tightening straps all you can after a few hours (I am talking about maybe after 2-3hrs in some 15mph+ winds with the
kite at the zenith) the ends of the bar push into the ribs. with a larger spreader bar it goes further across your midsection almost at your sides.
I am 30 waist. While I am moving on the board there is no issue, but when resting or just practicing drills with board and kite and it's at the
zenith, it starts to take its toll.
OH you know what!!!!!!!!!:eekdrull: I don't wanna screw you over. I just looked and researched and it's brand new just the harness no bar or pad for
$69 so it's up to you. here is the site....only size available is XS
When you jumped with it, did it hurt your ribs?dgkid78 - 24-10-2009 at 06:08 PM
Not really when I jumped. more when it was high in the window (Like i said, after a few hrs.) I mean i have a 30 waist but i weigh 150lbs. your
midsection might be more slender than mine, you might not have same issue as me.power - 24-10-2009 at 06:09 PM
I'll take it with the free shipping.dgkid78 - 24-10-2009 at 06:12 PM

Did you explain you hadn't been on PKF for awhile and you were afraid of the DTs?

Oh ok lol. It isn't too bad on a smart phone. Can always catch up inbetween thingsripsessionkites - 25-10-2009 at 05:33 AM
im the same waist size as you ... and I use to have a Dakine Fusion in Medium. I use a 10" spreader bar + pad. you can get away without having a
spreader pad, but its more comfortable and keeps the spreader from tipping upwards.
Every harness is a bit different in size and fit. also depends on what you're wearing, kiting in summer vs kiting in the winter.
Most harnesses have tightening straps too, so its sometimes better to go one size up than have 2 harness.
this is just personal preference too, however if you kiteboard most go Waist, and kitebuggying is seat. this is not a standard by any means, but when
you board leg straps sometimes get in the way. hybrids like indo_w said are a good idea too, the OR harness has removable leg straps and it comes
complete with the spreader bar plus pad.
hope this helps. power - 25-10-2009 at 07:39 AM
I've thought about hybrids, but they seem a bit expensive. I also haven't even considered going into buggying yet, so I don't know if it would be
worth the extra $. According to powerkiteshop.com, a small (that's what dgkid78 is offering) dakine tabu waist harness is 30-32 inch waist, so it
should fit me fine and work for at least the beginning stages.
-dgkid78- Can you clean that harness before you send it to me:duh:rocfighter - 26-10-2009 at 05:39 AM
If this is something you are just getting into and not wanting to invest a lot right now, EMS has climing harnesses on sale right now. I was there
yesterday and they are from $35-$90 I tried a few of them on and some were crap but others felt comfortable. I'm going back next week to get one
myself.

mind though.snobdr - 26-10-2009 at 09:39 AM

Lol so morbid . Its personal preference for everyone. I personally prefer crushed ribs over crushed nads or thighspower - 26-10-2009 at 04:43 PM
I've been climbing before, and used something similar to a seat harness except not for kiting. It got somewhat uncomfortable in the lower
region.:singing:snobdr - 26-10-2009 at 04:49 PM
