Some INSANE KGB hillside hangtime

Best thing since my old, well-posted fave "Super Kite Day"

What is the deal with the

"Unique Trailing Edge Flap System (Works like the flaps on a plane creating uplift)"

on these Air Evolution kites?

That's some incredible glide from an 8m!

nice video. I have hills like that around here. Makes me wonder a little. I missed the significance of the helicopter though.

Kool vid. Great hang time going down the hill side but how about going back up? I guess I am too lazy. I guess the helicopter is symbollic of the hovering hangtime. Probably could have not shown the guy's shoulder tore up at the end though.

I wouldn't even dream of going that high and far w/o being armored up!

Not to sure how the air evolution 'flaps' work specifically, but Im thinking its the same concept as the flysurfer 'jetflaps'. Then you pull on the bar you are not only changing the angle of attack of the kite, but also changing the shape with these kites. When you change the shape, it allows air to flow through cutouts on the trailing edge of the kite (flaps, if you will). When this happens the chord line of the kite will increase which will help increase lift, but the most effective bit is the increased airflow over the trailing edge, which adds energy to the boundary layer. When that happens the boundary layer will tend to stay attached to a higher angle of attack, allowing a higher angle of attack with less stalling = more lift. Again, not positive on the specifics for this kite, but I believe thats what they are getting at. There is a video out by flysurfer that explains it partially, I believe its a promo for the Psycho 4's....hope that helps

Thats a vid of a few guys i know from wales. the guy at the end is pete(wenglish on other forums) and he hurt his shoulder on the kite loop right at the end.
the wind direction when you are hill jumping is straight up the hill and you fall down the hill into the wind, so getting back up the hill is easy.
