Too windy to fly

shaggs2riches - 17-11-2009 at 05:37 PM

I've had about 12 hours now flying my 3.5 imp trainer most of which has been in 15 to 25 km/h winds. The past couple days have seen some pretty low winds of under 10 km/h, making me itchy for wind. This morning when I left for work the forecast called for winds around 25-35 km/h I thought that this would be a good day to start learning to scud as the kite has yet to be able to pull my 190lb ass around. So I threw my kite in the back seat of my work truck so I could take it out right after work before it got dark. When the day came to a close the winds grew to an incredibly strong 48km/h gusting to 76 at times. So now I sit here looking at youtube videos wishing I could fly. Which makes me wonder what some of the strongest winds some of you guys have ever flown in? :puzzled:

Thanks
Colton

one freak microburst during different session with 60+mph blast

When it's too much for the kite, it's perfect for the kitewing :singing:

I think it was right around 33mph....2.5m Beamer II on 40m lines at El Mirage. I think I might try 40mph on my 1.8m Beamer II on 20m or 25m lines but that would be absolute tops for me...I would much rather fly a big kite in 15mph winds than a really small one in 30mph winds...

Flew a 1.8m Flexifoil rage in 30mph winds with gusts to 40mph. Really fun day. Wouldnt go much above that though. At least I'm not quite comfortable going much above that just yet...

Oh, sorry, was ripping up the beach in my PL Comp XR. I've got some pictures somewhere...

I was in Loweville NY with a 5M foil, the wind was about 20-35mph. And I was flying static. A few days with sore shoulders was worth it!
My pants still have grass stains! What a blast.

And I was there that same day, ripping up the horse track with my buggy and the 2M Beamer. I could see why you made your handles out of re-bar!

Monday it was 20 gusting to 25mph, i wish i kept a smaller depower on me instead of my outlaw 14, and guerrilla 18. Yesterday it was a nice steady 15mph wind day, but raining, and today no winds or rain :(...

Yikes! I've done a 4.1 in 25mph and that was scary enough. Hate to think of a 5.6!

mougl - 20-11-2009 at 07:55 PM

I thought I needed new shorts after that session. No, I won't be doing that again...

Now the Viper on the other hand...
