What to do when the wind won't blow

rocfighter - 25-11-2009 at 05:54 AM

What is there to do when the flag is still?

I suppose going to work is always an option. But I also fly fish, so that can get me through as well.

1) post way too much on PKF!

2) sift through anything kite-related on youtube...

3) search for anything new & semi wind-related (search for kite vids from the last couple days) and post that...

4) take a super lightweight R/C helicopter to the flying spot and wait for the wind to bugger up the R/C session, works best though if you leave the kites at home and it's a long drive....

My problem is i start to "consumerize" with no wind... too much time looking at "things" and I end up spending money. . But hey! Now I can watch blue-ray discs!

I spend more times on the forums and I generally end up buying more kites when I can't actually fly them as a way to stay connected to the sport. It seems I've bought all my kites at times I mostly can't fly them.

awindofchange - 25-11-2009 at 10:54 AM

I just fly my indoor kites. :)

I like the indoor option. To bad I live so far from anything. I think the closest place large enouph to fly indoor around here is the high school gym. Almost an hour drive and almost always in use for some sports crap or teaching those kids :P

Drew - mycology?

I fall into the "spend" category when it's not windy. In fact I'm certain I'm a bit of a shopaholic.....I actually get mildly depressed if our flyers don't arrive on Thursday which is the norm. Last week they came on Friday and I was lost all night Thursday.

Oh yeah...I got problems ; )

hehehe

I figure it's like window shopping which is a hell of a lot cheaper than actual shopping. You better believe I curse the day I discovered that eBay can bring stuff right to your door.

If any of you ever feel that an intervention is in order do not hesitate!

I started to wonder when I saw a Psycho in you quiver ! Like A good friend I already told you I thought that was odd and you explained it well. ;) ;)

Jumping is a little late on this thread but what we do is drive the horses behind carriages. Sounds kind of antiquated but there's lots of similarities: harnesses, bridles, helmets, getting dragged around at speed. There is a serious crash/splat factor. Its a rush.

Here's a picture:

This horse is a American Saddlebred with an engine like a Ferrari. Serious business. That's me on the back using my board skills. Sweet! If you get a chance, I recommend it highly

The good thing about horses is you don't need wind. The good thing about kiting is you don't need horses! : )

When I'm bored and have spent as much time playing guitar as I can take, I usually take my kids to the zoo. No really I do that, my parents own a zoo just outside town. So we usually end up spending quite a bit of time there to let the kids wear off some steam. Not trying to advertise or anything but here's a link to their website:

In case anyone was wondering yes I have played with the lions on may occasions;-)
