Cartop Snowboard rack

shaggs2riches - 5-12-2009 at 10:17 PM

I'm looking at buying a rooftop rack to carry my snowboards to the hill and kiting spots. I have never used one before so I'm not sure what to look for in one. It has to fit on a 2004 Nissan Sentra. I preferably would like one that I can lock on the car, as well as lock to prevent my snowboards from being lifted when I head into a store. (if I'm going in for a while I'd be putting it in the car where its safer) If anyone has any experience with one that would work good for my needs your help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Shaggs

I have a Thule rack, not to expensive and It works like a champ.

My car is a 2001 Nissan Xterra, so it hooks right to the roof rack.

Like this one.

I pack everything into a Thule box attached to the rack (kites, skis and boards). Can keep all my gear and the bonus is that the snow doesn't prematurely start to melt on the ride home 0 everything stays nice and chilled up top so I can lay it all out to thaw and dry proper once I get home.

I use a Thule cargo long tube as well. I can load tons of stuff in it. Plus it's big enough when the kids are arguing they fit in it too!! I'm just kidding. It would be to much weight!

Yeah I looked at these. They look awesome I really like the cargo box site says that it fits three snowboards. trouble is that I don't have roof racks so I will have to buy some of those first. Whole package would run me 1000 to 1300 :eekdrull: May just have to stick to tying the kids to the roof so my snowboard is safe just kidding:D

Hit the used market for the roof racks - you'll find them. I gave away mine for my Civic through Kijiji this past summer after cleaning the garage. I had kept them around because they were semi universal podiums - all the dude needed to buy were the $70 cross bars.

(Shoulda offered them up here first I guess.....)

I have a Thule box on my roof as well. I did have a Thule rack, but it broke one day, shooting my boards into the air at 75mph. Fortunately, they didnt take too much damage. However, at that point, I got the box. Go to thule's website, they have rack mounting kits for every car. You just input your make, model, year, and configuration of your car, and they will tell you what will fit. Works great.

The box is also for more than unruley kids too. We load stuff in it all year long when ever we travel. And if it rains or snows the whole way there every thing is dry. Way better than a standard ski or board rack. It even fits my old school CC skiis. Plus a place to hide christmas gifts you bought for yourself!! I mean your sugnificant other!
