Crosskates for kiteskating?

RMV - 18-5-2005 at 01:07 AM

Hello Bob,
I just retreived some info and pics I had hidden somewhere on my pc, and
just linked this to a recent up page article.
What do you think of the crosskate, beside the fact that they are expensive.

Thank you for the comment.

I think that Crosskates have the means to be a really good kiteskate with a few changes. I've talked with these guys in the past and offered to make recommendations for creating a version specifically for kiteskating. They were to send over a couple sets for testing, but have heard nothing since (been 2 years).

I guess they weren't too interested in getting into the kite market, but if someone were to make the investment, I suggest the following modifications:

* prevent the front wheels from steering side to side
* disable the roll-back brake to allow wheel back-spin
* remove all brakes
* upgrade wheels bearings

Keep in mind that Crosskates were not designed or tested for high speed or long distance. These issues came up in our initial discussions.

They certainly are a polished product. However, for the money, I'll stick to making my own:

Update: I noticed the store link you provided shows them as out of stock and the Crosskate website doesn't seem to work. Wonder what that means?!

Crosskates have not been produced for a year or two. The guys who invented them have an industrial design and prototyping firm, and they're at http://www.pageproductdesign.com/index.htm. They sold the Crosskates company, which hasn't gone anywhere as far as I can tell.
