Bullet/Helmet Cam?

flyboy15 - 12-12-2009 at 05:40 PM

I've been thinking about picking up one for a while, so I'm looking into my options.

I'm just looking to see how much picking one up second hand would be, and seeing if thats a feasible option or not. If you have one that you don't need let me know and I'll look into some offers.

I could use some suggestions about which types to get too. Id like to use it for more than just helmet shots... Good resolution, easy recording system, mounting systems etc.

Lets hear it :)

GoPro SD new is US$150 or so ... I was thinking of selling mine but a reasonable used price relative to the new price now makes it uneconomical in my opinion ie. I'd take a massive loss :(

yea i dont blame you, those are nice cameras I did a little research on them. They sell them at the local hobby shop, and I know many of the staff there (they are in the club too haha, small town) so maybe i could get a discount or a demo model or something...

Thanks for the suggestion Kam, I was beginning to lean that way prior. Now leaning further ;)

I still think though that it'd be worth the money to go up to the HD ... better picture, better sound, better battery system ...

I have the Oregon Scientific ATC bullet cam .

I would go with a GoPro instead ?

I always shoot high with the bullet cam. No viewfinder is frustrating. Poor image stabilization to!

I am getting a Flip for Xmas!!!!

Kamikuza - 12-12-2009 at 10:33 PM

Is the Flip the one they're complaining about leaking over at kiteforum.com?

Bladerunner - 13-12-2009 at 01:24 PM

Not at all sure.

My Sister said there was some reports of recharge issues ?

It is NOT weather proof ( looking ) If by " Leaks " you mean doesn't want to get wet then Yes I expect it would leak.

It looks like my BlackBerry at work in size and weight but I doubt it is as water proof. USB " Flips " out.

I'm no video buff. I'm more for small and simple. This is way more small and simple than I expected !!!

I'm pretty sure it was a reasonable price ? Around or under 200cdn?

No, there was a thread at the kiteforum.com with people taking about options for kitesurfing and cameras ... GoPro was of course popular but people wanting LCD displays etc were using a couple of other types. One I thought was the Flip, had a water-proof case but tons of people had leaks with it ...

Should do the trick! something is better than nowt :D hmm got me wanting HD again though ...

Bladerunner - 13-12-2009 at 06:34 PM

I think there is a water proof case available for the Flip ? It must be what they are saying is leaking .

BR, I'll be interested in hearing how you like your new Flip. I am currently selling my three year old Canon ZR500 camcorder and looking to buy something more portable and that doesn't require firewire for downloading.

flip takes great vids ,but don't let any water near it. 1 drop went in mine ,through the a/v jack. Fried it instantly!
I found this place while lurking around

Looks like they run the gamut of helmet cams

I'm thinking about selling my helmet cam system, but it's a little more elaborate then a gopro. I have a waterproof Viosport cam, the H20 model and an Archos 540 with 40 gig HD in a pelican case. I just don't use it enough or have the time to edit video with family duties. I'm kind of in the same boat as Kamikuza though. I'd probably need $400 for it since it cost me much more. Hard to compete against the affordable gopros but Les Stroud supposedly used them on Survivorman so the quality is excellent. Maybe I'll get motivated enough to put it to use again..
