Power Kite Forum

An IDEA!

oh this is good...I thought about PL's auto zenith and thought of this.....

wouldn't it be cool if there were two arcs..19m's or something....one would be powered up and catch the wind and zoom skyward with the hitch going to a line connected to a generator..then when the line ends it switches to depower and then another arc goes up "reeling in" the first kite until depower.....and back an forth.....up and down......if the spinning wheel had a good transmission it would always be spinning in the right direction.........you could totally generate power..at least for a house........wow...the possibilities....

then I saw this

peter's into it already.....darn....

but its still fun to talk about....I would love to run my house with kites.....I guess the only problem would be if your generator was here in Sacto....

man I really need some wind.....

That would be very cool. Not enough steady wind here. But other places would most likely work. You would just need a doul ratcheting pully system for the kites. And a non polorized generator. Such as DC so it could produce in either direction. And charge batteries then use a converter to AC.
That's just crazy... so crazy it just might work!

well atleast now you know you are thinking on the upper levels ;)

Your same type thinking is why I was so impressed with the different type of tide water generators they are designing now. Like you said the winds are good and bad ... strong and non existent, but the tides come and go like clockwork multiple times a day.

Very interesting topic...

There is another Euro design that has multiple kites turning this huge Carousel type generator wheel.

A helium blimp / kite hybrid would probably make even more sense in variable wind areas.

It would be a little like those spinning axle little UFO SAM kites (now succeeded by those Prism Flip kite designs).

Let me tell you, those little SAM kites have an unbelievable PULL for the small area they use. They say don't fly them near other kites 'cause the line tugs and pulses like a little bandsaw in the sky!

OOOO do I see the idea for a UFO SAM battle?
