Wow. Looks like I'm in for some decent winds and finally a decent place to kite. Can't wait to see you down there. You think I'll be able to make it in the water without a wetsuit?

PHREERIDER - 26-12-2009 at 09:36 AM

preference for some(more like few). majority of folks very much still in suits, spring suit for me. these are tide dependent spots with certain wind directions

Anyone else going to be there? We have over 3000 members and only 2 of them are going to be in south carolina that week?:puzzled:

Maven454 - 27-12-2009 at 03:10 PM

3000 people spread over the planet is a very small density ratio.

Good stuff. I'm still trying to figure out what I'm going to do about a wetsuit...

ragden - 30-12-2009 at 07:19 AM

Get your parents to buy you a springsuit as a late christmas present?
If you are going to do any kitesurfing in the DC area (read Dewey), you will want a wetsuit. Sure, we have warm water in the dead of summer, but you can GREATLY extend your season on the water by getting a suit... :)

I'll have to take a look at this. If it isnt too far, maybe I'll come down for a weekend. I dont think I can hack NABX this year anyways...

edit: Ack, 9hr drive...

PHREERIDER - 30-12-2009 at 07:49 AM

love my spring suit . i get maybe a month of use before i drop it.

A 2/3 stitched and glued gets a lot of range. it was the first suit for me . i added the spring suit later (from ebay $25 ) . A spring suit is perfect if the sun is out.

power - 30-12-2009 at 09:09 AM

Ya I'll try to pick one up for cheap but I'm not going to spend lots of money. I have an old 2.1 sleeveless top that fits just not very tight. I'm assuming that's not enough though for april in SC.

power - 28-1-2010 at 07:06 PM

Are there any restrictions at this time of the year for boarding or kites in general on the beach? I plan to hit the water when I'm down there but I think
I'll be on the beach the most.

PHREERIDER - 28-1-2010 at 07:25 PM

not sure about KI, really depends on crowds and space.

for land if its crowded bad idea, or hike away. for water generally wide open some areas are wind and tide dependent. this is the WEST wind season and consider off shore and very much tide dependent. my have to hike to suitable launch spot. sometimes can be considerable hike 1-2miles. the north end of KI can't remember the lay out but i think it a beach hike for a west wind launch spot. should be ample room for water start. for land best you can do is pray for SSW and reasonable low tide.
the rules are posted for all access points.

I have an Xtera short sleeve triathlon suit from my old tri dayz you can use.....................you have a neoprene pull over so those two will work well.................if winds arent right for Kiawah, we'll head up to Folly or Sullivans..................................

power - 29-1-2010 at 10:38 PM

For me? That'd be great, I'm counting the days. Just under 2 months now!

tridude - 28-2-2010 at 10:28 AM

you still coming down.........................Cooper River Bridge 10k is the morning you get in town.......make sure you take I-526 to SC 17 to avoid traffic.............................approx 50,000 runners........................bottom line stay way from downtown till the evening of the 27th............................

power - 28-2-2010 at 10:42 AM

Still coming down for sure, good thing you mentioned that jogging event, I'm hoping to get some flying in the evening I arrive and I'd hate for joggers to be the reason that its too dark when I get there!

Is that short sleeve triatholon suit going to keep me warm in the water?
