Arcs auto-zenith

Always been curious about this, what allows an arc to auto-zenith? What features of all other kites do not allow them to do this?

My guess would be the geometry of the kite and that it's generating lift all around the curve, balancing the kite and pushing it to the zenith. That's just my guess mind :D

But its seems like a C kite would do that too?

I think it's the 3d shape of the sail - as the wind flow over the airfoil (even at low AoA) the lift generated at the sides stabilizes the kite. On a C, it's more like a ship's flat sail that catches the wind so when the wind flows over the sail, it's not generating lift.
That's all a total guess though!

Ha, ha... Even Peter Lynn himself admitted that he didn't understand why his kites auto-zenith. It will be one of the mysteries of the universe. :wink2:
