Flip video camera a flop

Bladerunner - 3-1-2010 at 07:54 AM

Well...... My new Flip camera is a flop !

I haven't used it for much at all. Took it out snowkiting but didn't take it out of the bag. ( a dog did pee on my gear ? )
I was getting it ready to go for today and iy froze / wouldn't shut off ! I didn't think it looked too robust but I'm amazed at how fast it failed. :ticking:

Can you post a link to the camera you're talking about?

Uh oh. That's the one I have. What were your temps?

WELDNGOD - 3-1-2010 at 08:20 AM

yeah,my flip flopped too. (1 drop of seawater in A/V jack) I'd Go for a canon powershot D-10, it's waterproof,shockproof,and freezeproof,and 312 $
Right now I'm using a fuji Z33wp 10MP digital it is OK for pics but vids are still the 640@30fps kind.
BR, I have been tellin peeps that my flip experience was short. I believe they need to tweek their idea a little more, and build a robust flip that will make it a year. mine died in a month
edit: does not take HD movies.

YES,

I like the robust style of the gopro ( and my bullet cam ) but NEED a viewfinder to set up the shot. It just needs to stand up to life on the beach !:ticking: frozen lake :ticking:

GoPro has a view finder, just no screen on the back ...
Sorry to hear that - hate it when gear craps out :(

DP review is great for choosing cameras. Here is a link to an article comparing waterproof cameras. There are a few that can do 720p movies. The Canon mentioned above is rated as well.

i like the look if that D10. where would you get a mounting strap for a helmet or chest or somthing. fabricate yourself?

WELDNGOD - 3-1-2010 at 01:57 PM

believe it or no flip sells a velcro mount that screws into most camera tripod mount holes. it mount on handlebars and stuff. You could fab up some kind of strap to work w/ it

i had one of those flips... about a week, and it wouldnt take a charge. Too bad, they seem like a halfway nice gadget. I think for our purposes tho, they are no good
