WELDNGOD - 20-1-2010 at 04:54 PM

kin to jonesband obviously.

Angus had one of these when we got together in early December. We both flew it in a 4.0m size. We both buggied with it as well. This is an upstart kite company just getting off the ground is what I understood. I'm not sure how much they want out on the street about it at this point so I'll defer comment to those that are "in the know".

Don't really know anything about the kite, but it's not a Jonesband type sale. Like Bob said, they're a new company, dealing mostly with 2 line stunters, but trying to break into the traction market. I met one of the guys promoting Sky Dog a while back, Jim Cosca, good guy. Legit company, but like I said, I don't know anything about these kites.

I've never flown a kite from Sky Dogs but I am familiar with them from the dual line scene. Decent kites at affordable prices is what they are trying to bring to the market. Dodd Gross is their chief designer and he used to work / design for New Tech kites and they had the Ballistic series of foils so while I wouldn't call either NT or SD power houses in the traction kite scene, they are probably OK kites at OK prices.

Any way we could get a pass the -------- program going?
I would fly it and give an honest review.

I've run into the Sky Dog guys at the MD/NJ fests this past year. Definitely dedicated guys who apparently have a decent product.

One of the sky dog guys was at the Rogallo Kite festival last year, brought a lot of 2 line kites to demo. I wonder if they will bring any 4 liners this year?

Funny- I hadn't read the thread yet when I looked at the auction, and my first thought was "That looks kind of like a New Tech."

It is the seller here that is a moron.

The Skydog Kites are fine foils. Based out of Connecticut. Moderate A/R, stable and easy. They are a great entry level kite and not "intermediate or expert Level" by any stretch as stated by this e-Bay seller.

I think they are just now coming to market. They sent me a few of the initial run for evaluation last fall. I flew most sizes up to 5.5. The first run had a problem with the printed instruction cards. When I pointed it out and made some suggestions, they pulled the batch and had them all re-printed. One of the samples had what I thought were some stitching issues but the others were fine. Jim was very concerned about it and I can tell they are concerned about quality, so I am sure the production run will be fine. I can recognize what factory it came out of, so the quality can be just fine if the construction details are specified properly.

It comes with fine accessories and a very practical and ergonomic ground stake with sheath. Line sets are fine and nicely colored for visibility. Handles are fine and functional with brake loops and strop leads. Kite killers on par with other brands.

The courier style bag with shoulder strap is very original, very practical with inside pockets right where you would reach for them. One of the better more practical bags I have seen.

These would be great trainers for the buggy since they are stable and easy and will not race to the edge of the window before the pilot knows what to do. This means more side pull going upwind but these are not Vipers or Reactors.

It will nice to have a US brand enter the foil market and I will be happy to carry these. Depending on final MSRP, they will be nicely in the mix as a good first choice with the Beamer, Hornet and similar designs.

I'll report the eBay Seller to Jim at Skydog and get an update on the line.

Jim, Skydog kites rep, was back at Rogallo this year. I got to fly the 2.8m, in 18-23 wind it had lodes of pull compaired to the 3m beamer we also had out. I wish I could of buggyed with it but Jockys Ridge is a wheel free park.
I Plan on writing up a full review later this week
