choosing a kite

generotti - 25-1-2010 at 01:34 PM

Okay i am looking to get started in kite jumping but i dont have to much money and can't seem to figure out what kind of kite i need to get off the ground. Would a peter lynn vibe 2.6m kite get me off the ground for some good jumping. i weigh 160 pounds.

jumping implies landing

do you think a 2.6 m kite can land you softly

but a 2.6m kite is a nice size to learn flying skills

before you can jump, you must lean flying a kite

BUT the Vibe model (2 line trainer) is a fun kite and not really designed for jumping

A vibe is a 2 line kite. Whereas the 2.6m is their largest, it won't get you where you want to be.

The previous post was right. You need to be able to fly the kite before you jump. You need to start with a 4 line kite so you can learn how to control the kite and use the brakes.

Some 2m kites are around $200. Peter Lynn Hornet, HQ Beamer are a couple. Neither of those will get you jumping, but for your budget and experience level, a good start.

Once you have flown for a little while, you can move up to a larger kite. A Peter Lynn Twister 4.1 is on the low end of jump engines. The 5.6 is used more by alot of people. But there are tons of kites out there capable. These are the ones i'm comfortable telling you about from experience.

You'll get alot of good advice here.

thanks, and where do you think i could find a cheap 4 line kite so i dont destroy the nice one trying to learn to fly it?

Other than them watch the For Sale secton if you have questions about a user look in the Good Traders List.

Sorry if I missed anyone.

Edit about the blade IV 4.9 it is a great kite, but it is a high performance jumping kite with lots of lift, not exactly wise to learn on. It has a reputation as a widow maker, lots of lift and not alot of ripstop to bring you back down softly. A good second or third kite but not very suited for beginners.

Here is a great deal on something similar but you would still want the twister later for jumping. Demo Kites for sale.
