Sandboard

A friend of mine brought a sandboard with him to the beach over the weekend. We never got a chance to use it, but I'm just curious how well those work in soft sand? Would it be similar to snowkiting or maybe kitesurfing, or would there be too much resistance? I was thinking of building one out of an old skateboard deck and some litewave straps for those days when the sand is too soft to board or buggy. Here's a link to what I'm talking about :

I've been thinking about it too, for winter on the kitesurfing beach - all the DIY sites I've looked at say you gotta wax it after every second run or so ...! Sounds like more hassle than it's worth although I'm keeping an eye out for uber-cheap snowboards for destruction ...

Sounds like the sort of thing I'd do in the old days, with the lads around and a few crates of beer

How easily do you slide? Do you have to hold down as much tension as scudding?
