Looking for a thread....

Anyone remember off the top of their heads that "prettiest kite" thread? I'm trying to track down that pic (I think Ripsession posted) of the Core or Reactor on the playa. I think that's the one.

I think it might be the one I started
;)

man half of those links are dead now :) I still think the blaze is the flashiest looking kite that ever sucked :) And I have one and love to fy it... but it still sucks! So I can't be a hater :D

Sweet! Thanks for the help. Funny, it was Rips' pic I was looking for but the Phanny stack reminded me I have a couple packs of lines downstairs to make stacker extensions for mine. What winds should said deed be done in you think? It'd be silly to not go for a ride once airborne but how do you keep from being overpowered?

Any ideas? (Maybe I should search....I think we had this discussion already too.....)

man, you nailed it!

My all time favorite for looks actually, century soulfly the next, most of the later peter lynn FBs in third place along with a lot of the PKD kites, tie for skycountry and blade next in fourth...

missed the stack idea...

but yeah i want to see that someday...

iirc it's more power than the bigger kite but not as much you would think from adding 18+15... but that's all I remember from my lurks.

Check... Stacking Twinskins

My 26m G2 stack (15m +11m) used 21m lines and 3m stacker lines. Probably not the best setup but, it's what I had left after my lines were cut by a snowboard. You stack more for the novelty. It is fun to try. It looks great when you have it tuned and the kites fly in phase (like they are one kite). I suspect the short stacker lines helped with keeping the kites in phase but may have reduced the total sail area and the power of the stack???

You need about enough wind for the stack so that the larger of the 2 kites would be able to fly at zenith on it's own (so it stays in the air). The stack is a challenge to launch (power inflation makes it much easier), pulls hard, the bar load is pretty high, the kites turn very sloooow (jumps are small), has a much smaller wind range and does not go upwind well. Best I could do on the water is hold my ground. Very tough in an on-shore wind. It does a bit better on snow and ground.

The trim and depower bar work as normal, just the range is smaller and you may need to edge harder than usual too.

I'm not sure the effect that longer flying lines and /or stacker lines would have had. Never tried it with my Syns either. Could be very interesting with the faster Syns and Chargers.

I'm figuring a 18 / 15 stack with 5m stacker lines (I think I got the 5m number from somewhere in the past). I also recall reading somewhere that you want to cheat in a bit on the rear stacker lines (maybe 6" shorter) to force the top kite to have a bit more bite than the bottom kite. I could try it with the 13/16 venoms but I think the added cool factor with the Phannys might make for a beautiful sight. When it happens I'll be sure to have lots of help and then lots of cameras going.
