Apex 7.5 opinions?

cjules - 26-1-2010 at 12:10 AM

Saw a good deal on one of these at a local shop, and have heard good things. I think HQ puts the range on these at 9-34mph. I'm looking at possibly getting this for the higher end of that, maybe 20-30ish. Not trying to hit any land speed records. Is this too big? I'm thinking the 5 just sounds too small. Maybe I'm off base there though because my only equivalent experience was with a 6m access but it was only blowing about 15mph. Haven't got much time on the venom 13 yet either so would I be overlapping too much there? I dig the foil ease of set-up factor, but usually when it blows upwards of ~20 here it's pretty gusty too. Just some thoughts would be helpful.
Thanks,

Chris

for clarification i'm talking apex II if that matters.

Had a demo 7.5 Apex for a month and did a lot of buggying with it. Liked it so much that I've ordered one. But I like it cause it gets me going in the low end where the 6m access xc doesn't. 20-25mph would probably be my top end (certainly not the kite's) - that's when I'd start going sideways in the bug. There's a vid link on my review of the Apex thread. If I was thinking 30-35mph, I'd be looking at the 5m personally but then, I don't have 'hoooj balls' !!! Check out the review if you haven't already.

Cheers

ps: yes, very stable in gusty conditions.

If you are looking for a cruising kite the Apex2 is great. I use mine to ATB with a buggy in the future. It comes into it's own at 15mph. I live inland with turbulent winds. I have flown it at 30plus. I ride on a grass field where there is pretty good resistence. The depower is awesome. I can drop the kite straight down to the ground in the event of emergency. The ease of setting it up and packing it up is great. I would recommend it if you don't won't lift or side pull. It is stable and busts the gusts. Hope this helps.

From what I have read of the venoms they are lifty (haven't had a go on mine yet.) I got one for the bug but will also use it for board sports. The Apex II 7.5 is Dakitez weapon of choice for buggy riding- he loves it.

are you landboarding with this? ... than its a good size in my books (huge boosting)

in 34mph (Bft 7., Near Gale) on a buggy there is no need for something that big (FB or DP), unless you have room to move.

rip,

skis for now. anyone know the low end of the 5m to get moving, even it requires sining the crap outta it

The 7.5 is fine in a buggy. It is my go to as well.
Thanks Dakitez for recommending it!
