shot car racing

fredagie - 9-2-2010 at 10:04 PM

Fellow kite people, due to the uncertainty of my schedule during nabx I wont know which days I can spend on the playa therefore I need to pass on the torch to someone who is willing to do the hard strenuous work of running shot cars. Any takers?

Hey Sailors,
I am still able to race.
I have the race course and will bring it.
But someone other than Fast Freddie or me will be in charge of things.

Think of the power and prestige.

He didn't say he won't be there, just that he has a super intense and insane private life right now.

You guys may not know this but Fred has become an indispensable part of our event and has already put in lots of hours for this years event and he's not done yet!

So, who's our newest race marshall?

Hey Now, we need a track supervisor.

Your duties will simply be putting the track away at night, and making sure everything is ship shape.

The Mayor will bring the track, but he's a little busy with other duties so i just need someone to step up, assume the responsibility(i know , i know bad term) and we will have shot car racing Tuesday pre-event (for those who could not make the un-official Pre-Event) and Weds night.

Post here or email myself or Corey.

Can we keep the tradition alive?

Aoxo~soon~!

Maybe it is obvious (to some) but I'm not sure I know what 'shot car racing' even is....:puzzled:

macboy - 24-3-2010 at 11:16 AM

Nor I but I'll learn "for the cause" and we'll have a handy place to keep it stowed. Happy to help out.

From what I can tell it's a track (slanted board) that the cars (Hot Wheels or similar with shot glasses affixed to them) zoom down. I presume they are empty when they go down the track so I'm not sure where the filling of said glasses comes in or the drinking of the contents.

Maven454 - 24-3-2010 at 12:06 PM

I would guess they're full going down the track and you drink what's left in them at the bottom. But that's just a guess.

Can anyone direct me to the thread about building and racing a shot car? I might want to throw my hat in the ring.

macboy - 24-3-2010 at 12:40 PM

I THINK it's this simple:

Car

Shotglass

Glue gun

Estes dry rocket motor optional :wee:

coreykite - 24-3-2010 at 12:47 PM

Hey Sailors,
I don't know how to link things.
So I posted on the thread from last year to bring it to the top.

There are some pretty cool photos too.

Looking forward to some serious (hic) racing.

Hint: Experienced Shot-Car racers know to race with only enough fuel to make it to the end of the race - Usually a half-glass. Then one can enjoy more races. I'm just saying.

Not sure what I've gotten myself into but I think it's safe to pull from Freddie's past:

"Hello to my kite friends. I am willing to do the races this year with a few conditions ( don't want to call it rules).

#1- you must bring your fuel if you want to participate
(coolaid, water, beer, vodke, or whatever you drink.

#2-bring your shot car
(anything that has wheels with a shot glass on it)

#3-I need a head count to see if we have enough participants otherwise forget it. (don't want it to be like last year)

#4- there is a curfew for kids after the first half hour of the races. (I know its a family event but kids seem to take over the track since it is toys were playing with after all)

I'm thinking of holding the races for 2 days before the banquet I will have music and try to create a kickback and enjoy yourself environment, what I suggest is for the guys that hang out at the hotel bar to come over and have a good time @ the tent. I imagine it wold be cheaper to drink @ the tent anyway.

remember shot car race winners are the ones who participate not the ones who make it to the finish line first. and its not about getting sloshed its about bonding with like minded people.

any comments, whines, or suggestions is appreciated. lets get a head count please.

Just come find me. Hopefully by the time you find me, I'll have found out what I need to find out.

airin - 24-3-2010 at 01:23 PM

OK, thanks guys, I think I'm getting the idea of racing the little cars with their payload of ...ahem beverage,....in a wee glass, or 'shot'. Yup, got it!
