Well, working from a home based studio means that I can stick a TV on the other chair and watch as the torch nears the opening ceremonies and I have
to say - what a sense of pride I feel. Sure wish I was out there with you guys!

Did anyone see or hear about the person killed while doing trial runs or something?? I overheard it while in the coffee line but don't know the whole
story

It's all over the news, guy from Georgian Republic flung into a pole. The luge track is scary fast and the world record was already broken in the
trials. Some are saying slow it down a little or cancel the whole event, as another person was injured earlier.

yeah, heard about that ^^
its too bad, but at the very least... he went out doing something he loved... my thoughts are with his family
cant imagine going 90+ mph on a sled tho :puzzled:

they showed the footage of the accident on NBC about a half hour ago. flew over the guard rail and hit an unpadded steel support beam.
the opening ceremony will be dedicated in his honor
macboy - 12-2-2010 at 06:12 PM
I'm sure they will indeed find a respectful way to honor him and hopefully respectfully enough that they can find closure insofar as the olympics are
concerned and continue the games - mindful of the tragedy but still in the spirit of celebration and competition. I saw it first thing this morning
and it made me sick....I somehow knew in the pit of my stomach that it was fatal. So, so sad. My heart goes out to his family, team mates and all the
athletes that will have to put this away so they can be the best they can.
Hard as hell no matter what sport you're in.

so on a positive note...
canada's womens hockey team is, well, good?
so good in fact they are thinking of implementing a mercy rule for games like this
for those of you that missed it... 18-0, Canada stomped Slovakia... and the funny/sad part.... this was Slovakia's first time playing womens hockey...
Welcome to Vancouver!

Canada won it's 1st Gold medal on home turf last night. :bisou:
It was Men' moguls. One sport I actually enjoy watching + doing !
What I enjoyed seeing most was the Snowboarder starting off the opening ceremonies ! I remember not long ago when snowboarders weren't welcome on the
ski hills . LIKE US !!!!!!!!!
There is still hope for snowkiting :Ange09:
