video editing software gopro hd

csa_deadon - 3-3-2010 at 02:15 PM

Those of you with with gopro std or hd what are you using as editing software?

Todd - 3-3-2010 at 03:00 PM

Sony Vegas 9.0

Only true issue that I've found so far is that it doesn't like large files like 4 gig dropped on it. I also have ADOBE Premiere PRO CS3 that I'm having issues with resolution of the GoPro. Hopefully I'll figure it out soon.

iMovie HD- works great for me with the GoPro SD files.

Has anyone had experience with using Gopro files with the Corel Video Studio 12 program?

I'm thinking about buying a gopro HD and I'll be using adobe premiere cs4 and after-effects cs4. From what I've been doing with the software already it seems more than capable of handling the larger file sizes ( depending on computer hardware of course).

What kind of computer/hardware are you running?

ripsessionkites - 3-3-2010 at 04:38 PM

imovie or final cut pro - MAC

pinnacle studio 14 - PC

iirc you can buy the "student" version on amazon for like $120... otherwise its like 500 :puzzled:
a buddy of mine makes movies all the time... and thats what he uses

InvertedForce - 3-3-2010 at 05:22 PM

Well, there are... less kosher ways of obtaining such pieces of software. :ninja:

I tend to use software like this only for personal purposes. If I am using it to make money from what I produce, I will pay for the software, as its helping me in my task to earn a living.

It CAN be rather expensive, but you can even download a free demo from adobe's website for 30 days. If you want to try it out, that'd be a great place to start.

Drewculous - 3-3-2010 at 05:29 PM

i'm all for paying for merch... but when the price goes WAY beyond what is deserved then i have issues with it...500 bucks at minimum is what you pay for that stuff... im with you... if im making money on it, i'll pay full price... but for me to pay 500 bucks for me to jack around with it in my home is a little un called for... i wont steal it... but if there's a better buy... esp one from the company, i'm all over it

besides Pirate > Ninja :P

highazakite - 3-3-2010 at 05:57 PM

uhm i may be silly but i used windows movie maker (ya have to down load it but its free with windows 7)
works just fine may not have all the bells and dingalings but for joining and working the mp4's in full hd seems to work good enough for free in my book.

InvertedForce - 3-3-2010 at 05:58 PM

Well, like I said, you can always TRY it for free right from Adobe's website. They offer a free 30 day trial for all their software. Its fully functional, no restrictions on output, no annoying watermarks, etc. Then after 30 days, if you really like it, I might just have a serial that keeps the software functioning past the mark.

@ highazakite - windows movie maker has awful compression, so I tend to keep away as it really kills the quality of the videos. If you're using an HD camera, its because you want good quality.

Likewise, if you're using a crap camera and $1000 software, it will only look as good as the camera's own quality. You can put a bowtie on poop, but it's still poop. :P

Kamikuza - 3-3-2010 at 06:11 PM

Windows Movie Makers - included with XP and a free download with 7. It DOES do full HD as far as I can tell ...

brplatz - 3-3-2010 at 06:36 PM

Pinnacle Studio 12,

Works great for 720 and 1080 video, tried it with some other videos for testing purposes.

Sean's Uncle has a new GoPro HD I'm itching to use.

i did not notice any lack of quality with the newer windowz movie maker. but im no hightech video maker either. with my go pro hd i just might get into it. any tips as to what i should pay attention to on so called compression or lack of. does cs4 come with video editing or do you need a special version ?

InvertedForce - 3-3-2010 at 08:17 PM

Well, Premiere Pro CS4 is part of the studio pack, but its specifically an editing software. I'm not sure what compressors WMM uses, but if it supports full HD now (back when I used it, it certainly didn't), they must've stepped up its game. Obviously, uncompressed is the best for true HD playback, but alas, thats not always conducive for online viewing.

H.264 encoding for mp4 is usually pretty good as a general rule, thats what they encode blu-ray with, just a higher quality version of H.264. I cannot recall what the exact name is, but its a derivative of the H.264 encoding method.

i tried using movie maker with mp4's and it was a no go... that was xp tho... maybe vista has a better version :puzzled:

pigryder - 4-3-2010 at 10:42 AM

I use imovie on mac

csa_deadon - 4-3-2010 at 03:43 PM

Thanks for the input guys. Looks like I'm gonna roll the dice with pinnacle 14. Pray for me!

highazakite - 4-3-2010 at 05:50 PM

drew yes xp movie maker wont do mp4. vista (yuck) and 7 (vista patched) both have mp4 support. not much use to you if your still on xp. but info none the less.

Kamikuza - 4-3-2010 at 06:15 PM

cant wait for all the buggy pr0n after nabx and future vids.

Kamikuza - 4-3-2010 at 11:01 PM

I used to be able to dual-boot between XP and 7 partitions cos I'm too lazy to get around to swapping everything over to 7, but something when tits up and now I only got 7 ... so I did my scud-marks movie in 7. MM imported from my card reader and it all went well ... except I guess saving as 480 was too small ...
