If any one is interested there will be a local kite fest at Dorey Park this Saturday. Hosted by Richmond Air Force. I will probably be the only power kiter there. Will be getting there around 7:00 to help set up. Past years have been pretty
big judging by the pics on RAF,s site. indigo_wolf - 3-3-2010 at 03:21 PM
Got lots of dodging to do with all those light poles, though.indigo_wolf - 3-3-2010 at 11:39 PM
Not sure how rough (gopher field?) they are but the two fields north of the soccer fields have no light poles. Longer walk from the primary parking
lot, could also mean less pedestrian traffic. Lemons... lemonade

I have buggyed in the field east of the road and tried to snowkite in the north field. When the wind is right there is an almost beach like run on the
north edge of the soccer/football fields
Calling for 5-10 winds Saturday so I will probably be static flying any way.ragden - 4-3-2010 at 10:06 AM
If you send me the actual location and/or directions to get there, I might just come out. Bit of a haul though...Maven454 - 4-3-2010 at 10:07 AM

I was contemplating heading down. Might be able to convince Heather to come with me.Todd - 4-3-2010 at 10:25 AM
I would have drove down for that as well but we're having a kite fly for kids at the Ridge American Legion. It's only from 1-3 though.ragden - 4-3-2010 at 11:06 AM

Well now i feel dumb...
Thanks!
edit: Little over 2hrs from where I'm at. I'll have to think about it. Especially if wind are marginal...Todd - 4-3-2010 at 12:53 PM
It's a nice park; I flew there with a couple of people from the Richmond Air Force and WOW
Now thats hilarious. Thanks bud.
Still not sure if I want to make the drive... We'll see...ragden - 4-3-2010 at 01:42 PM
Todd, how open is that field? Winds look to be right around 9-10 mph. If the field gets good exposure, it could be a fun ride.
Or I could just head to the bowl which is getting about 2mph more wind and is only 45 minutes from the house...silvereaglekiter - 4-3-2010 at 02:29 PM
Thanks Todd I wasn't in the office today. Winds out of the north will be problematic for riding. I'm not sure what the condition of the field north of
the soccer fields is. last time I was their was 6 inches of snow on itWELDNGOD - 4-3-2010 at 04:06 PM
Nick ,we are talkin it over right now . I don't see why the grandview crew can't be there. Should I bring a bug/board?
You already know I got a bag of small kites for noobs, ( t-foil, buzz, sting, small legends). I will let ya know

I'm bringing my Buggy for display even if don't get to ride it.ragden - 5-3-2010 at 07:06 AM
While this sounds like a lot of fun. I am going to have to pass. I have to take the cat into the vet first thing in the morning, and after that I
might head up to Baltimore for some local kiting. Sorry guys. Maybe next time...WELDNGOD - 5-3-2010 at 04:21 PM
Nick , what time does this thing start? And are power kiters welcome at this event? I don't want them to think we are trying to crash their festival.
It looks like the grandview crew will be there,w/ all the kites.silvereaglekiter - 5-3-2010 at 04:41 PM
the RAF crew has been welcoming of me. This will be my first fest at Dorey Park I have bugged there before but I will only be bugging if the crowds
are lighter or I can get some running room. Posted times are 10-4 . I will be flying under the Demonstrations idea
Todd - 5-3-2010 at 06:57 PM
Have fun tomorrow guys!WELDNGOD - 6-3-2010 at 03:17 PM
Just got back, we had fun . No buggyin' , but lots of static fun. We hung out w/ SilverEagle Kiter all day on the back field.
Lots of kids, which is expected at a kids fly. But as it got later in the day, the demographic changed, it seemed like the "completely oblivious" w/
children showed up. When little jerome is laying on my 5.5 century and I holler at him to get off. The last thing I wanna hear Is "don't you be
hollerin at my kid" which made my blood boil. But I had talked w/ the RAF when we got there, and it was made clear that we must not be rude , even to
total morons .And I gave my word. So I bit my tongue, and wrapped up my kit and bid the RAF goodbye and came home. I guess in some cultures, "other
peoples property" is fair game to do with what you want to.
Still had fun and the wife loved it. My two friends who went with, also had alot of fun . I think they were MILF watching and flying all day.
I will have to make it to a few more kite fests in the future. Thanks for the invite Nick.
