Warranty?...

Krohn1999 - 4-3-2010 at 03:11 AM

I don't know if it is avialable in the states or Canada but with every laptop/computer that I buy from Acer I buy a 3 year insurance/warranty against everything (including little kids with water glasses) Check and see if somthing like that is avialable and buy it quick. Since you just got the computer it shouldn't be a problem, if its avialable. Then you just have to wait a week and then you...

Man Rip that su3ks I would try Willards idea first. I hope it works out for you.

Generally if you spill water on computer equipment, you want to make sure that is 100% dry before you attempt to turn it on.

That sux:no:
I double Maven's suggestion!!
If you purchase it with a credit card, call the CC company to see if there's any insurance or extended warranty coverage that protects your purchase. Don't forget, many of these electronic manufacturers put little stickers in these devices that automatically detect water damage so think about your story first before discussing it with them.

A trick with cell phones and other electronics is to use (dry) rice as a desiccant to draw the moisture out. Cover with rice in covered sealed pan and keep in a warm dry place for a while. Or warranty...

Unfortunately, I have to say, Apple's Extended warranty is quite extensive, yet it doesn't cover water damage. There are a few things that it won't cover. If you drop the computer and crack the screen, its not covered. If you spill water on the keyboard, its not covered.

Sorry, but dry the case out and don't try turning it on until after its been COMPLETELY dried. If it was on when it happened, chances are you still shorted it out.

Perhaps if you buy a new topcase and keyboard assembly you can repair it yourself.

If you try the rice deal don't forget and put chicken or fish in with it. I think that will just make it worse.
I know this is not a funny issue but I hope it made you smile for a second.

thank god the bestbuy girl didnt check it, and did a straight return for the upgrade version. all is well in the Lui-Pereira House again.

life lesson #8484843, never put 'puter at kid level.

Thank goodness you don't have a cat that flings wood (granted, balsa) boxes at you from the top of the bookshelf.

Walking on keyboards and knocking over drinks is taken for granted as a cat ("formerly worshipped as a god in some cultures, so deal with it already") perogative.

Glad to hear you are sorted.

Sam

a trick i got told about was, place it in a bag full of rice for 24 hrs. this, admittedly, was for a mobile phone but it did work. the rice draws out all the moisture.

You should invest in one of these...

I would really recommend the moshi keyboard protector that PrarieWind linked above for any MPB owner. ESPECIALLY if you have kids, or are a klutz!

ripsessionkites - 4-3-2010 at 02:47 PM

that sounds like a better investment than the Magic Mouse. however that magic mouse is a lot like a woman's V.....a

My invisible electronic dog fence works wonders to keep my teenager away from MY 'puter:shocked2:

I hadn't thought about a shock collar for in house restriction. I saw in a movie they used a bark collar to keep a guy quiet.
