lad - 11-3-2010 at 01:01 PM

My Geeky Sense is tingling...

dylanj423 - 11-3-2010 at 01:05 PM

yup... this is gonna be a good one... surely you will be seeing it in IMAX 3d... as you surely saw alice in the same format, i should hope...

i think all movies will be 3d within the next 10 years except maybe artsy/indie movies

indigo_wolf - 11-3-2010 at 02:03 PM

Just for you, Drew. ;)

For all of who dream of light cycles... on a budget.

ATB,
Sam

PNW Flyer - 11-3-2010 at 02:32 PM

I've been waitin' for this one to get remade since the original came out.

Also, saw a newscast for a 3D TV being sold for 3k. Nice!! Can't wait for all to make transition to 3D and bring the price down!

Maven454 - 11-3-2010 at 02:52 PM

Never saw the original. Looks horribly cheesy. Probably going to see it anyway.

PNW Flyer - 11-3-2010 at 03:21 PM

Original was kinda cheesy but effects were good for its time.

Now with this one regardless of cheese level, need to see for 3D AND IMAX

mougl - 11-3-2010 at 05:55 PM

im.
so.
there.

Kamikuza - 11-3-2010 at 06:07 PM

Haven't seen the first one(s), haven't played the game ...
Now if they did a new Bladerunner ...

dgkid78 - 11-3-2010 at 06:35 PM

Yeah I also So Alice this weekend at the IMAX and saw that Tron 2 preview. I sweated that movie as a kid. tons of remakes though. And all of a sudden they running out of remakes so now whats next??? Apparantly board games Monopoly is being made into a movie and so is CandyLand and Clue (Again)..........I do love Clue though. Personally the movies I am waiting for are 'The Hobbit" 2011, and 2012 for those 2. :wee:

How about a Logan's Run remake :singing:

flexiblade - 11-3-2010 at 09:23 PM

Wow, I would imagine the median age of this forum to be about 35 or so - I was 12 when the original came out - was the most amazing thing - in 1982 there was nothing to compare it to. Just amazed that not many here have seen it and those that have seen clips refer to it as "cheesy" - that light cycle scene was brilliant, and the recognizers, awesome.

I'd be down... dont know if they could top the first one tho... the world seems to have it out for H. Ford and his sequals/remakes.... (indy & the skull  )
blade runner tho.... man i'd be stoked as h**l if they redid that one!!
...............................................and didnt ruin it........

art_lessing - 11-3-2010 at 10:20 PM

oh that is one of my favorite movies....and actually its not cheesy in the least..can't beat Brigdges..in fact it forshadows the matrix with the whole "users" idea....people who havent seen it should as a matter of Filmology...it really did start CGI and everything that is the movie today.....oh and the recognizers look like PL phantoms....infact it would be awesome to have a kite bike that looked like a light cycle and a phantom with the look of a recognizer...you would be constantly getting chased.....

Kamikuza - 11-3-2010 at 11:00 PM

Actually, Descartes' "brain in a vat" predated the Matrix by 400 years :D

I don't think you COULD do another Bladerunner without screwing the original :( I'd like to see a DECENT writer put Snowcrash on the big screen ... that'd rock!

Logan's Run remake = The Island :ticking: only worth watching to see Scarlet jiggle.

AD72 - 12-3-2010 at 12:39 AM

Ben Procter, an amazing artist I worked with, worked on Tron as well as Avatar and Transformers. It should be amazing.

"Scarlet jiggle." Ill go see that.

Maybe I'm just reading too much, but this statement implies that someone tried? I have no information on such a thing, nor does the internet seem to deliver me information. I so dearly want to see the adventures of Hiro and YT.

BUT, I'm moving to gargoyle next year with some Zeal Optics "transcend" goggles, goggles with built in HUD!

Seriously, these things could be soooo cooool.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d2NVFXHlnAA goggles with GPS....

art_lessing - 12-3-2010 at 01:21 AM

you know they filmed the car chase scene in matrix 2 out on the Alameda airstrip...why can't we kite out there ? we have simple little buggys and they built a mock freeway.....maybe someone who is going to nabx can convince peter lynn to give a good word for us .... doesn't his nephew or something work out there.....

In 1982 I was 1. It's more the effects that I refer to as cheesy. Actually, it's the glow tubes on everything that gets me.

ragden - 12-3-2010 at 06:44 AM

I've seen notes on the trailer for Tron 2 and wondered if it was any good. Hard to make a sequel for such an iconic movie like that. I'll have to check it out sometime soon. Tron was one of my favorite movies as a kid. Very cool. Its worth seeing if you havent seen it.

edit: I have NO idea what snowcrash is... can someone please clue me in?

Maven454 - 12-3-2010 at 06:46 AM

It's Neal Stephenson's first novel.

Drewculous - 12-3-2010 at 07:24 AM

its ok maven... in 1982... i wasnt even a thought... that movie was two years old when i came around.... i bet that movie was almost 20 years old when i saw it... the special effects are a bit dated, but for the time, it was cutting edge. And im a big video game dork, so yeah... movie about a video game, i'll see it once, at least... they usually dont pan out... but i'll give 'em a shot

art_lessing - 12-3-2010 at 12:22 PM

definitely do it..just keep this in mind 1982's graphics were just good enough to give us galaga, pac man, and donkey kong...and the shockingly bad E.T. for 2600.....total infamous commercial flop

indigo_wolf - 12-3-2010 at 12:29 PM

The graphics on Xevius were pretty good. Game itself was a bit like crack cocaine in its ability to addict. ATB,
Sam

P.S. And Drew just made me feel like Methuselah.

dgkid78 - 12-3-2010 at 01:37 PM

Cutting edge special effects for its time that still hold up kinda well is got to be Star Wars before Lucas retouched everything back in 1999. I still got those hanging around on VHS somewhere.

AD72 - 12-3-2010 at 01:44 PM

I still have my Atari 2600.
lol E.T. was pathetic.

Kamikuza - 12-3-2010 at 05:46 PM

Jeez I know how you feel Sam, in 1982 I was most of the way through elementary school :moon:
No, I meant that with ALL the adaptations etc the movie mill is doing (and even a lot of the original stuff!) is crap cos they bugger 99% of them up and make an abortion out of the rest of them.

rocfighter - 12-3-2010 at 06:01 PM

Ok I was graduating High School in 1982. I'm way old!!!
But I'm not to old to still remember that movie. It was very good for it's time. Maybe they will remake the "Lawn Mower Man" as well.

ragden - 12-3-2010 at 08:08 PM

Just watched the trailer. That looks like fun. :)

heliboy50 - 13-3-2010 at 04:45 AM

I really don't mind the remakes at all. Some good, some bad- it just takes me back to when I was a kid and life hadn't yet crushed my spirit;-) :D. OK how about a dark and creepy (for an 8? year old anyway) remake- Krull? TRON looks pretty nifty and all the glowing stuff is really a throw back, IMHO.
