Wanted: Tube Kite (Tube kite fabric)

jokiter - 14-3-2010 at 09:29 AM

Looking for used tube kite. Kite brand, bow/c-kite, damaged bladders or any other damages doesn’t matter, since I’m only looking for tube kite fabric. Please let me know what you have.

Thanks much!

Dave - thanks for all your help . The 'junS-P-A-M-L-I-N-K- Cabrinha was what I was looking for. Definitely enough good fabric left.

All - I'm still looking for damaged tube kites. Cuts, major damages no problem, only the fabric should not be completely worn out.

jokiter - 27-8-2010 at 01:43 PM

Any damaged tube kites out there? I'm always looking for that stuff

BeamerBob - 27-8-2010 at 02:13 PM

I have an 18m caution answer that is still a viable kite. Offers?

I am curious what you will make with the material ?

The Caution has some of the coolest graphics. All flames and stuff ! Could be fun to work with ?

Junk Kite

jokiter - 28-8-2010 at 06:46 PM

I like single line flying too so I came up with the idea to recycle old/damaged tube kites, take the fabric, and make some single line kites out of it. It works well.

Attached are a few pictures from recent projects. I think it was an old Caprinha.

I bet that the Caution would be great for that, but I would hate to cut a still nicely flying kite in pieces. Therefore I'm more looking for junk kites.

Hi Scott,

The kite arrived yesterday. Thanks for the fast shipping! I'll have now some more fabric for a few new single line kites :wee:

Good winds

It's cool to see the the old Cabrinha in the air again..
Good work on giving her a new life.

Cheers

airin - 12-9-2010 at 12:39 PM

Very cool project jokiter!

jokiter - 14-9-2010 at 06:09 PM

Thanks everyone! Special thanks to Dave and Scott who helped out with their old kites. I'll put up a new post once I'm running out of fabric again.

Flying G Zeus - 20-1-2011 at 02:41 PM

Yeah, nice project. Who knows, you may find yourself making 4 line kites one day!

jokiter - 24-1-2011 at 05:45 PM

Thanks, G Zeus. Maybe I try to make a nasa sometimes soon.

jokiter - 24-1-2011 at 05:48 PM

Another sled I recently finished.

Scott - I think it was fabric from your kite?

Just saw this thread that indigo_wolf brought up.

This is a very inspirational use of old material. They look well built and beautiful!

jokiter - 2-4-2013 at 04:54 AM

Thanks much, area429.
Since my wife complained that I'm just making kites I decided to work on a new bag for her... as usual out of old kite fabric.

High Fashion!

skimtwashington - 2-4-2013 at 05:33 AM

..from a once high flying kite. Perfect!

I always thought it was hysterical that a bag that was meant to carry important stuff or valuables(money) became much more valuable than the items being carried inside it(not to Me).

Designer handbags? some selling for thousands$!It's a bag you set down on dirty public surfaces?

You know what Hysterical is? So many coveting Coach bags and paying hundreds for some ugly bag with the letter 'c' printed all over it. ("Isn't it beautiful?", No...have you lost your sense of taste?)

No hysteria is greater than fashion.

@jokiter: awesome looking bag. Love the colors.

@skimtwashington: WRT to fashion... posted elsewhere.

"As a general rule, fashions and trends are always disturbing. Doesn't matter if it's 10-20 years ago or now. Eventually, in hindsight, there'll always be something to remember and go "WTH was I thinking."

If manufacturers can make a buck off it, there's always someone to convince you there's something you need that you really don't.

Insult to injury: Pick up any magazine that purports to have a finger on the pulse on fashion, and you'll find something that's supposed to be oh so special that most people wouldn't be caught dead wearing (unless someone paid them obscene amounts of money). Fashion shows are replete with clothes so fugly that it's got to be... well fashionable. The red carpet is always chock full of the walking wounded in terms of good taste (whatever that is).

At the end of the day, your cat, dog or appropriate wee-heart really doesn't care all that much. Although cats will give bonus points for clothes with enough texture to get a good chin scratch off of."

Great sewing and design skills!! I've always thought that a seat cover or NASA/NPW kite made out of an old kite with the graphics showing would be great.

area429 - 2-4-2013 at 08:52 AM

Another winning piece jokiter! Your wife should be proud she landed such a creative and talented dude.

@indigo_wolf: I have a feeling any cat would be more than happy to chin scratch or sleep on that bag. Cats are a good judge of fashion I guess.

Next project: Kite bag made out of old kites. That's a good way to get attention on the beach:
"Oh hey, I used to fly the thing that's holding all your gear right now!"

Let's have a PKF competition:"Best use of an old worn out kite"

This sport has been around long enough that I'm sure there is enough material to go around.

To any kite manufacturers: got enough material for me to make a wind breaker? I’ll keep the logo on for some free advertising!

KCKITEFLYER - 2-4-2013 at 08:58 AM

This is a tough one now... I want to make bags myself. But I am also wanting to sell my 15.5m rush and 16m north rebel.... and 12m cabrinha...... FML....

B-Roc - 2-4-2013 at 10:05 AM

Nice work Jens. I can barely manage to sew a button on a shirt

jokiter - 2-4-2013 at 11:16 AM

Thanks everyone for the kind words. Glad that you like it.

A few other projects I finished by using old kite fabric...and btw...I'm still looking for more old/damaged kites if someone has some here in Europe :singing:

There's some German engineering for you... love the spikey ball!

Not only can you kite and sew, looks like you could be a hand model too. You must moisturize :P;-)

jokiter - 3-4-2013 at 04:29 AM

Brian, I will make sure to remember that ;-)

And...Caprinha has now there own Nasa models ;-). Susan (npw goddess) inspired me to try a Nasa. It flies well, but I'm cured now - I nearly strangled myself while bridling the wing

Hand model work is grueling!

skimtwashington - 3-4-2013 at 04:41 AM

A hand model strangling anyone...? Hilarious:singing:

BTW...Jokiter did a great job making kite. The NASA flies very well and made strong. Susan would be impressed. I've flown it.:tumble:
