To Macboy or anyone on PKF

ripsessionkites - 19-3-2010 at 01:23 PM

putting up a Case of BEER right now if someone can convince RevPaul to come to NABX this year NOT next year.

macboy - 19-3-2010 at 01:43 PM

Odd that......I got a U2U from him saying he was teetering on coming next year but couldn't read if it was because he'd come this year instead or because he might not be able to come next year either.....Paul - I can haul gear no trouble at all...we'll find a way to make it all fit. It'd take the scenic route home so you'd be without until mid April but I'd think that was no big deal given what you'll take home from NABX this year.

Grab a wrench and break down those buggies!

macboy - 19-3-2010 at 02:04 PM

Did I mention we could find room to lay in the RV? It comes with a dog and a baby but I'm sure there's worse fates ; )

Really all you need is a plane ticket.......

revpaul - 19-3-2010 at 02:41 PM

my resolve to skip this year (in favor of attending next year) is weakening. it's gett'n late i know but i'm trying to get some logistics (mostly $$$) nailed down.
i shouldn't mention that i already juggled some vacation days and have from 3-30 to 4-6 off. (juuuussst in case) ;)
it looks like, thanks to you Kelly, that i could travel light. Rip says there is good food available on site (which of course i will pony $$ for) so feeding myself doesn't seem like it'd be an issue. room rates aren't terrible even for the whole party.
if I didn't like you (kelly) i would take you up on your offer to shack up with you in the RV but that's not my style. I want you and your wife to enjoy yourselves and i'm not about to cramp your style if you know i mean.
plus i'm alergic to most dogs now too (used to be just cats).
plane ticket $$$ sucks ar$e but so does the idea of driving down alone.
that's why i wondered whom (from AB) is planning to drive. I've done the Edmonton to LA (and LV) drive a couple times and did looooong haul driving for a living for many years. i would split gas and share driving.
the only other issue is transport to from hotel (bumm'n rides).

macboy - 19-3-2010 at 02:54 PM

......thinking.........

I could look into adding you as a driver for the first three days of the trip then all you'd need is a one way flight back home. 'Course then the allergy thing and "cramping style" kick in ( j/k......you're a funny guy). It'd be REAL tight quarters all loaded down but surely we could manage it? Wonder how much we can load on the roof? (We're hitting the road Friday afternoon too.....but could probably hang tight if needed. Our first night is with friends in Lethbridge - you'd get on just fine with him and all of us......cool guy.)

Anyone here know how standby works? I know WestJet hits Vegas nearly daily, don't they? As far as I understand it it means cheaper flights?

Do you guys think it'd be cool to contact the other two Albertans listed on the NABX site to see if maybe they can offer anything in the form of a solution? We're all kiters, right? Anything to get one more of us down there?

BeamerBob - 19-3-2010 at 03:12 PM

Check for deals. Virgin has $49 flights to Vegas fro SFO right now. Maybe there is something cheap from your neck of the woods too.

revpaul - 19-3-2010 at 03:22 PM

i'll have wife(shopper) see what she can find (flights). i looked last night not looking pretty but she has better idea where to look. i thought stand by was for students.
i'll get it all sorted (coming or not) before you leave mac on friday. i will not hold you up.
-thnx for the tip BB-

macboy - 19-3-2010 at 03:24 PM

If my efforts win the beer from Rip it's all yours ; )

Looks like Bob's vying for the prize now though....we better be careful here. Last time this happened things got cut in half. No need to get that desperate to go Paul...we can make room for you fully intact

BeamerBob - 19-3-2010 at 03:33 PM

Theres nothing better than having a case of fine beer and friends to share it with. Well there are better things, but if I get in on this, I'm sharin'.

revpaul - 19-3-2010 at 03:46 PM

mac you sure you got room for big bertha?
i can fully disassemble buggy and think i can (remove tires from rims and flatten tires and stack them inside of other) if need be.
that reminds me...
**Rip**
i have the big smoothies on right now. Duro 21x12.00-8 mounted to "original eurotrax by cad.kat" rims. i think 2ply?
looking at what you guys are riding on i am thinking these aren't tires of choice for NABX. ?
speed rating wise. i'm not thinS-P-A-M-L-I-N-K-n about me pushing 70-80 mp/h but i think 50-60 might be doable personal best. i doubt these tires are up to par for those speeds?

macboy - 19-3-2010 at 03:59 PM

Share and share alike! Paul - we'll make room. Don't you worry. Even if we have to fab a quick tandem bar or two and tow the buggies down

macboy - 19-3-2010 at 04:04 PM

I wouldn't go to the trouble of deflating and unseating and all that unless you're gonna run different rubber anyway. I've got my midis, a spare set of regulars, two BFs and another spare set of midis coming down and there's little difference between a loose tire or a mounted wheel. Besides, it's easy to stash stuff like that. It's the oddball stuff like axels and kiteboards and skis and the surf board I'm bringing home that are gonna make things interesting ; )

revpaul - 19-3-2010 at 04:26 PM

looking pretty good for a go.
when r u going to be on site? i know Rip is going to be there a day or two early. i'm sure i will be able to mix/mingle well with BB and other guys from PKF once i meet them.
trying to figure out a schedule to book hotels/fight. just phoned Buffalo Bills and they r sold out(over booked) of the NABX group rate but normal rates aren't much more. no biggie.
just wondering about buggy tire situation now and taxi to/from hotel.
and to/from airport.

Bladerunner - 19-3-2010 at 04:32 PM

Kiterider called me about sharing a room.
Rooms are super cheap during the week.
If you would like I can contact him and see if he wants a room mate for the week nights and then you could just crash with Mac and Fam' on the Fri + Sat ?

I think you are refering to my 1st Buggy Love " Bigfoot Betty " Pab's + Jen's old super truck ? Isn't She your ride now?

yep...that's right "Bigfoot Betty".
if we come down you can have a go or two or three... with her. i'm not the jealous type;)
thnx for the offer to contact kiterider, it's OK though. putting myself in other shoes i would prefer to meet someone a while before committing to sharing accommodations. my extra costs are only my fault.

macboy - 19-3-2010 at 05:06 PM

SA-WEEEEET!!!!!

We plan on hitting the Playa on the 29th or the 30th - it all depends on the winds at Skyline/Cedar. I'm going to finish polishing the wheels tonight and then take the buggy down from the roof and start the "pile to pack" in the middle of the garage. As long as the gear's here by the eve of the 25th (Thurs) she'll make the bus on time.

This is awesome. It'll be a pleasure to buggy with the guy that helped see what I was missing out on. Sounds like you'll be a few miles ahead of me but if I cut back sooner than you I can beat you to the beer!

WAHOO!!!!! Another pink skirt enroute!

BeamerBob - 19-3-2010 at 05:13 PM

Save a beer for me! I'll be there at lunchtime on the first. :singing:

BTW. Tires don't compress hardly at all by letting the air out. You would make matters worse by taking them off the rim unless you can leave the bigfoots at home.

heliboy50 - 19-3-2010 at 05:17 PM

Got three ribbed barrows and tubes with no real wear.... They are on barrow wheels but the buggy mechanik can solve that one. I was planning on bringing them as spares anyway.

i was thinS-P-A-M-L-I-N-K-n that if they would actually fit i could stack the BFs inside one another to save room.
for skinnies I have a couple of slicks and a ribbed barrow (plus the 3 brand new tires from PL XR+). i see the NABX cover photo shows a fleet of Libres with skinnies on. if running skinnies/rims if better i could bring the old PL Race. I just thought (looking at the pictures) that the big stretched Apexxs and Libres were running rims like mine (in size) with low profile tires.

heliboy50 - 19-3-2010 at 06:06 PM

Funny- back and forth between threads. I run my bf's on golf cart rims which are like 7-8" wide. SCREWYFITS ran golf cart wheels and tires last year and I will most likely have a set of those too this year. Just bring what you have (or can squeez in) and I'm sure something will work out. I know there were some with bf's on there bugs there last year. I'm not bringing mine just because they are 2 ply and I think I'll burn through them. Glad you're coming!

ripsessionkites - 19-3-2010 at 06:49 PM

I have 3 others that have in single rooms that I can ask if they want to share. PAGING PKF, anyone else wanna share a room with RevPaul???

if you want to be alone, i suggest you book hotel NOW!!! Cancel later, before its full.

secondly, Ken #3 is driving down from BC and picking up Brian (OR). if they have room why not fly from AB to BC and drive down.

options are endless

Don't be an InoT, and attend.

if you're not renting a car

what are your arrival dates to LAS Airport?
(we will be in town again on March 29th, picking up our goods from AWOC, and with the number of vehicles coming back from Primm, we can pick you up)

getting from Primm (hotel) to Drylake? as long as you're an early riser like Faster Arie (either he doesnt sleep or lives on Holland Time the whole time, and its all done without Redbull like some people) and wanna eat breakfast with us. we have like 5 vehicles "non smoking" you can jump into.

revpaul - 19-3-2010 at 07:07 PM

yes i think i'm coming.

i can rent a car if need be.
BTW is a car (ground clearance) fine enough to get taxi to and from playa?
*going to garage to see how rims/tires from PL XR+ look on Libre.
for you guys that do the tire switch where do you get the spacers from for the front end? there are already spacers on the front so i'll need two more that are 2" longer than the current ones. i think the bearing size from the Libre rims (front and back) match right up with the PL XR+. bonus!

heliboy50 - 19-3-2010 at 07:46 PM

I cut peices of tubing to fit, and you can probably fine tune with washers.

revpaul - 19-3-2010 at 07:54 PM

looks as though i'll only need about 1/4" on either side.
the cad.kat rims are 8" wide where the bead meets but not where the bearings fit (where rim attaches to axle).
so i'm looS-P-A-M-L-I-N-K-n good
HOLY LOW RIDER BATMAN!!!
of course i lost clearance so I cinched seat side straps to max to get back to about 2 1/2" of clearance from my tailbone to the ground ;)
i do imagine one does want ultimate Low CoG when riding fast but man i am low... the lake bed is pretty flat right:singing:

thanx Rip,
beggars can't be be choosers but about what time do you hit the playa and what time do you normally arrive back to hotel?

DAKITEZ - 19-3-2010 at 08:03 PM

plenty of cars going back and forth from the hotel to camp ... thats a easy ride to get. No worries on that one!

I see a Canadian invasion going on. I better practice up "eh"

macboy - 19-3-2010 at 08:20 PM

Just got back in from din-din and super stoked to see this taking shape! It really means a lot to have you down there Paul esp. considering had it not been for you I'd likely not be making the trek. Anything else I can do to help just let me know.

i gotta be careful not to let my mouth write cheques that my body can't cash. i'll let Rip and the BC crew do the talking for now being they should have may have been out riding already. there is still snow on the fields here and buggies have not been used for some time.
lots of ring rust and cob webs to shake out.
*game on for sure though once the rust is cleared out but you year round riding season guys have to ride backwards:wee:

WolfWolfee - 19-3-2010 at 08:38 PM

Wahoo, got the whole province to myself ....lol.

the way it looks right now is this
-Tires/Rims
i put the XR+ rims/tires on the Libre and just need to shim about 1/4" on either side of front axle. all bolts match up. cinched seat straps to get about 2-3" of clearance.
-Food
not exactly sure of the details but i am sure i'm not going to starve
-Flights
wife says we have enough Airmiles. just need to check for availability and if so, book.
-Hotel
if flights are available then i'm booking.
you guys can use the facilities if RV water pressure does not cut the mustard.
Medical/Travel coverage
?
Rental car
might have enough Airmiles to get a freebie car too if available. hope a car's clearance will suffice? we will have transportation to restock supplies.
-Customs (back into Canada)
not sure how to proceed. no serial numbers and maybe can't find receipts for everything. interesting.
not sure what else to think of
oh yeah
-Register
will do if everything else falls in place.
So...I'll find out tomorrow morning to see if freebie flights/cars are available. If so I'm there.
i know you have been polishing your XR+ rims and want to take it for a spin. do you think it would be a good idea (considering room allowance) to bring the PL Race too? you can if you like whether or not I come. the axle has a hitch and we/you can use DereS-P-A-M-L-I-N-K-s tow device to tandem ride your better halves.

heliboy50 - 19-3-2010 at 09:00 PM

Car cleance on the playa not a problem at all. Very little bit of sand at the entrance, but nothing at all to worry about.

macboy - 20-3-2010 at 11:43 PM

Paul, true to form you're as gracious as can be re: the PL Race. Still, I'd much rather you sitting in it than me ; )

Any developments? The wheels are all polished (good from far, far from good...what a TON of work that was!), the pile has begun in the garage. Stopped by a friend's place tonight, borrowed his son's 1.0 Profoil for the trip (just in case). I think I'm now more than covered. Gotta make the call on Monday to Canada Customs but I'm thinking a written manifest might suffice so if they want to stop me coming back I can at least show what I took down and if they REALLY wanna take inventory well.....what can you do? I'll let everyone know what I find out.

the wheel on the far right just below the buggy looks like a fast WHEEL to use.

geez that's a lot of gear.
-that fast wheel looks like a wheel to your bicycle trailer- the same trailer i have and was looking at how to hook to buggy before i even bought it ;).
well...here's the situation.
First of all i have to say THANKS TO YOU ALL for all your help and offers of assistance. I do appreciate all your energies really.
It looks like it's back to original non plan to attend next year and i'll explain why.
i'm not normally a "last minute guy".
the reason i did not make plans for this years (2010,i know... the good one) NABX was because my "kite buddy" DeezPanshes (father of 5 and my brother), whom has been very silent on the forum for quite a while, was hit with some major personal/financial issues. NABX just couldn't be done. I did not feel right about going with out him and that is why i did not make plans for myself to go. i still do not feel quite right about going without him so when things didn't line up quite right it was not a big deal for me. I feel more badly to you guys that put in the time and energy to help me out. I plan to reciprocate.
Fortunately Derek is on the mend, so to speak, and says we are def going to get some kiting done this year and NABX will be on the agenda.
IT WILL BE MY PRIVILEGE TO BE ONE OF THE GUYS OFFERING ASSISTANCE NEXT YEAR as I(hopefully we) will be planning ahead to attend.
Thanks everyone and good winds to you all.
I'll see you soon enough:singing:
Paul

Bladerunner - 21-3-2010 at 09:51 AM

That's the attitude.

Your aren't bailing on Deezpanshes . Simply blazing the trail for next year ! :smug:

macboy - 21-3-2010 at 12:52 PM

++ karma dude. You're quite a guy (both of you are actually). All summer last year I thought of how little use my gear was getting but, like you, things had come up and I wanted to focus my energies there. I just kept telling myself that I have the rest of my life to kite, it's only NOW that I can make a difference by focusing on something else for now.

You'll be missed (both of you). SOBB maybe? I smell a weekend roadtrip......

macboy - 21-3-2010 at 12:55 PM

.....oh, and the "fast wheel"? Right you are Paul....it's the Chariot for Anna. BUT the wife said the answer is "no" until such time that Anna is old enough to decide whether she wants to go kiting or not ; )

You should see the wheel a little further right of that.......now THAT'S the fast wheel. (My prized VFR....if it'd fit in the RV it'd be coming too!)
