Rolands Home Built.

Scudley - 20-3-2010 at 10:39 AM

The youngest local buggier showed up at GP with his new home build buggy. Roland has a very nice new ride which he put through it first paces Friday afternoon. It is aluminum. The tubing selected takes advantage of aluminum's low density: it weighs next to nothing. It has very wide back axle and tracks like it is on rails. The steering head has a similar angle to a PL, but axle has about an inch of offset. It really seems to help the steering.
Roland and his dad did a great job. Ed is an aircraft fitter fabricator. Very nice welds.
With a short rear axle it will be an excellent freestyle buggy for some one light
Thanks for the test ride.
Some raw video Dirt Slide took of Roland of the new buggy. He is flying a 2m Reflex in 12kts.

glad to help Roland and Dad with the buggy pieces. nice looking buggy.

that 2m looks underpowered for 12 knots.

GP still looks muddy. Who cares though, a week until NABX. it will be dry when we come home.

A little correction: Roland's dad is aircraft fitter/fabricator. I think there is a bit of a difference.
Weldngod, the material 6061 Schd 80 tubing. He had looked for 5000 series, but said it is as rare as hen teeth around here. I will ask Ed about the cans.
TDMC took some pictures of the bug today. He said he would post on PTW's website.

WG that is just sick, I met a lady at an expo that had welded for NASA on the shuddle projects and I think hers were not as smooth. Her welds that is.
