Kite keeps spinning?...

Alexwilson - 27-3-2010 at 10:08 AM

Went out with my beamer today for the first time in about 3 months and everytime i tried to get it to take off it turned left and started spinning violently
I checked all the kite bridles ect but everything seemed alright?
can anyone shed any light on what might be the problem?
it fely slightly like maybe one of the lines has streched but it was fine the last time i used it so im not sure how its happened
cheers

p.s just replaced my broken brake line and in typical fashion today the other one broke
can you buy replacement brakes or do they only do full sets of lines?

Check to make certain that all of your lines are the same length. If the problem is not there, and your bridle appears to hang evenly, then you might have simply had a slight tangle in the bridle that has since worked itself out. As for the lines, if one line has broken it's time to replace the whole set, unless the one line broke because of something other than normal wear.

Make sure the problem is not right under your nose at the handles. I have scratched my head over a misbehaving kite and after finding nothing at the bridles, found a line wrapped around a knot in the brake leaders at the handles.

Also possible. That thought had occurred to me Angus, but not until after I'd already made my post :D.

Since you only changed one brake line i have to think the problem is there. Check all your line lengths to be sure they are equal length.

All 4 lines equal then have some slack in the brakes when your handles are in neutral. If you don't see a slight arc then your brakes are too tight. This is almost always the problem!

Right, im guessing the problem is the brake then, but i put it in exactly the same place (same knot) as the old one so it shouldnt have changed surely?
also i lined up the two flying lines and im sure one was about 2 inches longer, but i might of just been looking at it wrong, so ill have to check properly next time
As for the broken line, it melted at the connection point due to going to going to the killers in a strong breeze (soreted the problem now) not becasue of ware....so my flying lines should still be in decent condition
Bit anoying having to fork out for a whole new set if i only need new brakes!
cheers

Angus,

Someone on here informed me that you would be selling a 3m Scout demo soon. If you still have it I might be interested if it's in my budget.

thanks,
Ernie

'Fraid that Scout's gone. But I have a new Scout 5m that will go at a good price, since the Scout II's are coming out. I just have to get a new Cross-over bar for it from HQ

Thanks but i'm a newbie and the 5m i think is just too big. Looking for a 3m approx. on a bar.
